View Full Version : Games you're waiting for
What games are you waiting for? I mean games that haven't been published yet, or maybe not even announced yet... Games that will come out soon or in 5 years or maybe never. This is my list:
1. The Witcher 2. The first one was awesome, loved the story, the setting, everything. Not even announced yet, but I'm quite sure it'll come sooner or later.
2. Assassin's Creed 2. While the original was rather repertitive, it was also a gorgeous game. I do crave for more bloody combat, this time in Renaissance Italy. Announced; should be released in x-mas 09.
3. The Thief 4. Sneaksy thiefsie... The atmosphere... Levels like the Cradle.. I want! Hinted to be under development.
4. Deus Ex 3. The first game was near perfect, the second a small disappointment. More juice conspiracies please! Under development, to be relesed in late -09(?).
5. The Elder Scrolls V. I truly hope it'll be more like Morrowind than Oblivion. Because Morrowind was... can't find the words. Might be released in 2010.
So, what games are you waiting for? :hourglass:
Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams sounds more then a little promising.
Heavy Rain, no idea how or what it's going to be but I loved Fahrenheit
It could just be that MAG will rock (256 player multiplayer shooter)
Deus Ex 3. The first game was near perfect, the second a small disappointment.
good man, IW wasn't a bad game.
Thief 3 (-minus cradle) though :furious3:
Prototype looks good as well, we will see.

I think a mid 1011 release might be more likely. There was also rumors and gameplay trailers going around about a PSP version, has anyone ehard anything about this?
I am actually looking forward to the release of mods more then games. The new versions of Project Reality and Forgotten Hope 2 for BF2 are high on my list.
As for actual games I only have two:
Hearts of Iron 3
Call of Duty 6 Modern Warfare 2 (Coming this November apparently)
HoI3, if it gets enough publicity, is going to rock this genre around. Paradox Interactive is a great, great company and from what I've seen them do over at their forums HoI3 will be made on fan suggestions.
As for CoD6, I am slightly sick of this series title (Something fresh) but if its good can't complain. THe last one was decent (First mission was great, but CoD2 was better in my opinion) and COD5 was good (Better then CoD4!) so with IW working on this one... shall be interesting.
It could just be that MAG will rock (256 player multiplayer shooter)
:jawdrop: If they do MP right (As in good gameplay, balance and its actually fun and not like... CoD2 MP) that could go down very well.

The one I'm looking forward the most is Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad.
Call of Duty - Modern Wafare 2 looks very interesting, but I'm not sure I'm actually looking forward to it, CoD is too arcadey for my tastes.
Basically that's it, I don't play that much any more, and the games I play are the ones that I've been playing for 2-3 years already - Red Orchestra, Day of Defeat: Source, Day of Defeat 1.3, Medieval Total War...
Oh, and Empire:Total War, haven't bought it yet.
I am somewhat sceptical, your are playing in 8 player squads, could just end up like playing 8 vs 8 matches simultaniously on a very big map. It's already pretty hard to find a decent 8 vs 8 teamgame in COD. 256 players? They have some great idea's, extra experience-points for operating like a team and all that but there is so much that can break the game if you want to, even if it's a solid game we are dependent on the goodwill of the hordes.

You need a PS3, but mouse and keyboard are supported if you must

ES5 has been in the works for a long time already. Work began on the engine (it is getting a new engine, not the same Oblivion/FO3 engine) and the basic outline of the game before FO3 was even released. After FO3 was released, a significant portion of the staff switched over to work on ES5, with only a few small groups of artists, writers, and scripters left to work on FO3 DLC and patching. I haven't heard anything concrete about release date, but I would personally expect it to be released sometime from mid-2010 to mid-2011.

I guess ES5, maybe DoW 2 DLC.
I really want a remake of FE 7 on GBA. The newer FE games just don't have the same appeal. The units in Shadow Dragon just look worse.
Elemental: War of Magic and War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition
That's pretty much it, at least for now. There are rumors of a couple other games that could interest me that may or may not be in the works, but unless/until I see confirmation of them, I will not -- dare not -- give them any thought for the time being.
Upcoming ones or just games you want to get?
Upcoming ones or just games you want to get?
Well, I intented this thread for upcoming games but I can't see why you couldn't also list games that have already been released (but that you've not bought yet for some reason). Mods also may be listed too.
Talking about mods, I'm waiting for a sea of ETW mods to arise, something epic like Broken Crescent... :applause:~:thumb:
The real Jagged Alliance 3 instead of those third-party attempts like Brigade or Hired Guns.
Storm of war: The Battle of Britain
It's the successor to the IL2-Sturmovik flightsim. Might be on the shelves by Christmas. Looks to be great indeed.
Elemental: War of Magic

Elemental: War of Magic
The Witcher 2 (assuming the company survives long enough)
Bioshock 2
And as a longtime Baldur's Gate, NWN etc. fan, I've been trying, really trying, to stay enthusiastic about Dragon Age. But every new trailer (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/05/09/blood-and-smuts-dragon-age-violence-trailer/) looks worse than the previous one, as evidence of a serious fantasy RPG that would appeal to an adult. I sure hope there's a game with some depth, and much better dialog than I've heard so far, underneath all that flash.
Hearts of Iron 3
Elemental: War of Magic
:2thumbsup:
I'd wait for Empire Earth 4. Like the original one, with better graphics and some improvements. Not like that brown thing that is EE3.
2. Assassin's Creed 2. While the original was rather repertitive, it was also a gorgeous game. I do crave for more bloody combat, this time in Renaissance Italy. Announced; should be released in x-mas 09.
You just made my night, sir. ~

Crazy thing about Mount and Blade is... I've already got so many mods on it that I love that I don't think I could get around to playing a newest Last Days... Eagle and the Radiant Cross, Hegemony: Timeless Kingdoms, Lord and Realms.... oh my!
I guess I'll have to try that Mount & Blade... I originally disregarded it as the graphics are like.. from the last century. Do mods improve the graphic quality at all?

There is one mod called the Graphical Enhancement mod (Plus the HDR mod) which makes the game beautiful! You have to stuff around with the gamma and brightness options but if you get it right the game's graphics ptich forward several years. Worth looking at and can be combined with any mod.
I forgot one game which I can easily put at the top of a Most Wanted list; Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising. I never had a good go with the original but I really liked ArmA, so if they make it better (Which isn't that hard when you consider it) it should go great. Release is off by several month's, possibly next year; but with the open world environment they're promising no wonder its taking so long.

I didn't even know there was another Flashpoint coming; I absolutely loved the first one. One more game to add the my list!

The new Flashpoint will be made by a different team, ArmA was made by the original OF developers.
Hearts of Iron 3. If EUIII is any indication, then it should be decent.

I am a happy M&B player...and yet I can't help but wait for TLD.
Oh man I loved Assassin's Creed. The fact it's being set in Reinassance Italy gives more opprotunities. Can't wait to be dueling in Venice.

cant wait for the new elder scrolls (please be like morrowind). I also am excited for God of War 3, i mean hes a pyschopathic spartan and you attack olympus on the first level HOW can it get better. And im not sure but maybe that halo expansion about the ODST's, but maybe it'll just be like a ghost recon-esque title.
So you would disregard the awesome gameplay just because the graphics are a bit dated? :wall: Kids these days.
A bit dated? From different screenshots its graphics look like equal to those of Morrowind. The age difference between these games is over 6 years I believe, that's a long time when it comes to pc games. I don't think its strange that a new game with obsolete graphics did not manage to catch my attention. I'm not exactly a graphics whore either, I still play games like Rome, and recently played Morrowind (although heavily modded).
Wonder what your kids comment has to do with anything, especially since you're the younger one here.

I started playing M&B back in 2005, and it was out before then. Morrowind came out in 2002 and had a large budget and staff. And has been said, there are graphical enhancements you can download.

1: Next Version of dwarf fortress (Because its better then ALL retail games. (This is not opinion, this is fact)
2: 0. A.D. I need a good RTS
3: Next version of UFO: AI
4: M&B Warband maybe, even though the Multiplayer aspect pissed me off.
I think the only games i'm really looking forward to are CoD: Modern Combat 2, Assassin's Creed 2, and Mass Effect 2... with a nod to Hearts of Iron 3, which has peaked my interest.
While I cannot wait for these games, I can't help but notice ground breaking originality seems scarce this year. Every game I am waiting for has a number tacked at the end like a malignant growth. It's something that won't really effect my enjoyment of the games (provided they can be enjoyed in the first place) but is a fact that makes me frown a little, even if on the inside.

1. Diablo 3 - I have spent so much time on Diablo 2, its not even funny. Hopefully, Diablo 3 will get me hooked again
2. Starcraft 2 - Have tons of great memories regarding the game - playing with Friends at LAN parties and such......
3. Dragon Age - Its been a while since a more classic style RPG has been out......

I play only Strategy and RPG games so...
Dragon Age
HOI 3
Starcraft II
Alpha Protocol
About Dragon Age, I visit those boards sometimes and devs have said that the game is still what it used to be, it's just the marketing that decided to bring attention of the "wider audience" to the game. They feel that "hard-core" fans are already familiar enough with the game.
I believe HOI3 and DA are gonna be really great games which will give me many sleepless nights. HOI3 just looks better and better with each passing day, it might be a real masterpiece.

I was at first happy to see Bioware making a new supposedly classical RPG, until I saw the stupid trailers of Dragon Age. Marilyn Manson ? Check. Blood all over the place ? Check. Useless sex scenes with big boobed emo girls ? Check. Crappy dialogues ? Check.
Right now the game looks like it has been designed for 14 year old DnD nerds. Mature game = appealing to embittered and sex-starved nerds.
So, I'm not really looking for anything but Edge of Twilight (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLQC8p6Yfqw). The game looks awesome, and the team quite enthusiastic about it. They promise the game won't be a dumb hack 'n slash but will offer an interesting scenary with dozens of characters and a well-thought background.
Plus it looks like the good old RPG Arcanum. Steampunk is unhappilly too rare in video games.
I'm somewhat waiting for Starcraft II, but TBH, I vastly prefer Warcraft over SC. So, we'll see.

As much as I've looked forward to this game as longtime Bioware fan (Baldur's gate etc.), that's been my impression too. I was trying to just assume it was the marketing department, looking for a wider audience through selective editing of trailers. But this recent E3 report on RPS with some hands-on play is disappointing:
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/06/10/rps-at-e3-dragon-age-origins/
Ramped-up eye candy doesn't bother me. The plot and world design looks a bit hackneyed, from what I can see so far -- you vs. teh evilness! But I could live with that. Heck, Mass Effect used a bunch of tired sci-fi tropes in its storyline too. Most of all, it was the awful, juvenile dialog in all the Dragon Age trailers I've seen so far. It's been enough to push me from "gotta pre-order!" to "wait for trusted reviews" status. I wonder if Bioware realizes how many automatic pre-orders from oldtimers they're losing, in order to reach for that wider (and from the looks of it, much younger) market?
The Witcher is looking better and better in hindsight, as an adult fantasy RPG (and I don't mean the sex scenes, which were cheesy enough). If Dragon's Age doesn't live up to expectations, at least there's a Witcher 2 out there somewhere on the horizon...

Heh, yeah. I've been through BG1 and 2 a dozen times, and I was at first really excited by DA-O. But it's looking worse everyday. I wouldn't mind the apparently poorly-designed world (what's the point of making a cut-and-past of Forgotten Realms if you don't have to follow a licence ?), or the seemingly retard plot ("onoes, the big evil bad deamon guy tries to conquer the world"). I could even stand the cheesy voice-acting (some really great games have bad voice acting).
What bothers me is the complete lack of 'Baldur's Gate' feeling. BG didn't bother to cater to 14 year olds by using lame soundtracks, moronic dialogues and childish sex scenes. The romances, though sometime cheesy, required a bit more than "Bring me back this book and I'm yours for the night". I remember how difficult it was to have a romance with Viconia, and now they show us this whole thingy that requires you to bring back a book to watch two poorly animated characters making love. Wtf?

Dragon Age's awful rock music is trailer specific.
That concludes the good news. I haven't heard anything else about this game which makes me expect something positive. There's the minor issues, like tacky, years out of date blood effects plastered all over. There's the medium issues, such as the cringe inducing sex scenes. As if that's not enough there's the outright face-palm worthy "What were they thinking!?" issues, like the lacklustre, cheesy, infantile plot and characters we've seen thus far.
The whole thing is embarrassing. Outright, completely embarrassing. Blood, swearing and sex, combined with cheesy cliches, gameplay which appears lacklustre, tired graphics, bland design, sub Bioware standard voice acting, and a bunch of characters and plot which looks like it was written by an 11 year old trying to be cool and adult.

What's lower than one cheap romance? Two cheap romances which coexist. Rock, Paper Shotgun covered this part of the game in their E3 write up of the game. Bioware were very keen to show off that you can bed your second female romance right after emerging from that tent, and she knows you just did. As RPS put it, she's happy to accept you while you still smell of the first time around.
All of the information released about romances is centred on a male player character. Months after they started releasing detailed information on romance possibilities they won't so much as confirm female PCs will have a romance available. This from a company with a sizeable female fanbase, and which has previously treated female characters quite fairly.

Wow, i have to say that is frighteningly unappealing. The kind of player who would probably say "Aw yeah!" in a moment like that isn't the one who is going to buy Dragon's Age in the first place.
This coming from the guy who, in Mass Effect, giggled like a school boy when his female Shepard courted Liara.
I haven't heard about all the lascivious sex scenes in Dragon Age, but I have read several previews that I thought sounded very promising. The idea that you can think you're doing good only to find out you're mistaken or worse yet were played by others sounds like a refreshing change from the normally black & white moral decisions most games have. The examples I've read about make me thing they might just pull it off. Add to that a good swords and sorcery setting and I'll be onboard barring any DRM surprises.
Other than that, I'm looking forward to Scribblenauts, Demon's Souls(US release), and Wii Sports Resort- yes, I'm being serious.

Mass Effect 2, perhaps. If they've changed the inventory system to something not awful and let me have an army of Krogans. :P
Elemental seems like it has potential, dunno if I'll get into it or not.
Halo 3: ODST simply becaue it has like half the cast of Firefly doing voice acting - though I will likely piggy-back off a console gamer friend instead of actually buying it (and the xbox to go with it :sweatdrop: ).
I don't really know anything off the top of my head that is coming out that I'm really excited about. HL2:E3 + another TF2 pack would make me very happen, but I'll probably old by then. (:P)

I just hope Mafia 2 doesn't follow the recent trend of dumbed-down cover shooters with recharging health.
