Initiating night battles

How do I initiate night battles? I have a general with the requisite trait and I can't figure out how to do it.

You attack an army, and check the "Attempt a Night Attack" box before you play.

Hey Subrosa, about ur pic:

to post a pic on the forums, you have to have it on some online database?

So if I was doing an AAR, I would hafta stick EACH pic on, say, photobucket, and then put the URL on my post to make it show up? Or is there a way to get it from my PC directly to the post?

My battle screen doesn't give me that option. It's not like it's grayed out, the box isn't even there. It looks like the regular non-BI RTW battle screen.

Well, are you patched to 1.6? Using any mods? Using Vista? Packing your PC in sodium dichloride? :clown:

Otherwise that's, erm, odd. I guess you'll have to check out the bug forums.

option, could you post screenshots of your battle screen, your night-fighting general and the army he commands? This way we could possibly troubleshoot (brr... jinx) your problem better.

Yes you would have to upload them to photobucket, imageshack, or some other similar site. Thankfully most have a bulk uploader and will also give you the code for thumbnails as well as full size versions of your pics.

It's not just him, it's all of my night fighting generals. I have version 1.6.

Check your BI\Data\World\Maps\Campaign\Barbarian_Invasion\ Descr_Strat.txt file. Look at the top, just underneath the faction names and the start and end dates. You should see a section like this:


marian_reforms_disabled
rebelling_characters_active
gladiator_uprising_disabled
night_battles_enabled
brigand_spawn_value 10
pirate_spawn_value 12

Is the night_battles_enabled line in yours? If not, put it there.

Yep, that line is there, but still no good. Checking through the file for other instances of 'night' I noticed that Spurius Flavius was the only character with a 'NightBattleCapable' trait... hmm...

That is normal. He is the only character at the start of the game with the night fighter trait. Generals receive it sometime after they get their fourth command star.

Take a look at the very top of your descr_strat file. Are there two lines saying:


campaign barbarian_invasion
options bi

I am sure there probably are, but I am just fishing at this point.

I've also had a campaign where my general had the night fighter trait but he would never get the option to fight a night battle. I never got the same problem by starting a new campaign, just with the old one.
