Just started playing EB and LOVE it. Fantastic mod. Cant believe I didnt find it sooner. I now play it more then Empire or MTW2.

Anyways I have a good game going with the Casse, but was interested in trying a greek faction. Any suggestions? Perhaps some good hoptlite type infantry with some decent cavalry?

Thanks again! :2thumbsup:

You could try the Koinon Hellenon. They have the biggest selection of Hoplite types around here, including Spartans. Their cavalry wing is decent but slightly inferior to that of other Hellenic factions. Phalanxes are powerful but a bit tricky to use so I wouldn't recommend Makedonia, though it's cool. If you want really good cavalry plus Hellenic troops, try Baktria.

Are you talking about the Greek cultured successor states or about the Faction in modern Greece?

Talking about the Greece factions I would advise:
Makedonia would be a good introduction for EB, you start with a large army in the south and are threatened on the western border by Epirus. No Romani Threat at the start though, so you dont have to worry about them in the beginning.

The unit roster is excellent, varying from a large cavalry selection, elite infantry, Macedonian phalanxes, and a lot of local units nearby (including the mighty Thracian elites).

Good that you like EB, read the FAQ carefully and good luck with your campaigns!

Also note that if you play two campaigns at once, and you load from the one to the other, this could cause a bug which will damage your government buildings.

On the other hand, if you begin to feel rather sick of the Hellenic factions, especially those dratted Makedonians, the Getai are just north and always more than willing to rip them to shreds! :2thumbsup:

Either way, I'm glad you enjoy the mod. Do become involved here on the forums - you'll meet loads of decent people and you're sure to pick up quite a bit of knowledge.

Thanks! Appreciate the welcome :)

I will for sure try a greek type faction next. Just want to finish up my Casse and Romani campaigns first :)

Meh, I am an Eperios fan, as evidenced by my sig. I like their starting position, feel, colours, the elephants they can recruit in Ambrakia, their higher difficulty level. I don't know, but there is just something that makes Eperios so much more likeable than Makedonia, the other very similar to it faction.

Oh, and of course, you have not played EB until you tried Romani. No other faction is as complete and unique as they are. They have the most complete voicemod, complete with several versions of the same command and every unit; they have the most units and four different military eras; they have the largest victory conditions; they have the most traits you can gain with FMs, not to mention the offices of Cursus Honorum; they have everything basically.

Face it satalexton; your love of Makedonia is out of your jealousy of the greatness of Roma.

Oh, wait. Did I hear something? What's that? Did I hear someone mention the battles of Cynoscephalae and Pydna? You say the were Makedonia losses? That's strange. I thought satalexton said that Makedonia was undefeatable...

Play MAKEDONIA, I suggest.

I just kick the Epeirots out of Greece, leaving them TARAS. Now they are kicking the Romani's butt. :laugh4:

*sniffle* I'm proud of you all, young heroes of Makedonia...

Old traditions they will abide!
Arise young heroes!

I did the same thing; unfortunately Epeiros started conquering Italy and I had to rescue the idiotic Romans because I needed them for the Phalanx reform :wall:

their higher difficulty level

Really? For me, they're easier to play than Makedonia. Yes they may lack decent horsemen when compared to Makedonia, but Prodromoi will serve you well - and then you can get Molosson Agema which arn't too bad.

An overall good unit roster (plus easy acess to elephants), and the fact you start with an army right next to Pella which contains a cohort of elephants mean that it's a fairly easy start to the campaign. The comparatively small AOR of Pezhetairoi may be a bit of a challenge when fielding decent line-infantry but that is what makes the campaign fun.

In my current campaign it's around 230 B.C and I have all of Modern-day Greece and the Balkans and Italy; with Getai, Romani, Makedonia and the Koinon Helleon all fallen in the battle against Eperios. I've just started invading Mikra Asia (which is under sole control of Pontos) and I'm having a lot of fun.

I recommend them as good Hellenic faction to start with.

Makedonia is definitely a good faction to start with. Not because I'm a Makedonia fan, mind you. They have a good starting position, and lots of potential in the future. Pyrrhos will almost always retreat from Makedonia, so you can "cheat" a bit and focus on Southern Hellas knowing that Pyrrhos won't attack anyway.

When you defeat the Epeirotai and Hellenes of the south, unify the rest of Hellas and you'll be swimming in mnai in no-time. After that, the possibilities are endless:
1) Mikra Asia to the East awaits for you with unthinkable riches (as well as unthinkable huge number of battles:tongue:) as you press into Asia. You can even try and reunite the Empire of Megas Alexandros.
2) Thrake to the North can be conquered and their people brought under Makedonian control. Thrakes are excellent units, their Rhomphaiophoroi, Thraikioi Hippeis, world-famous Peltastai and Galathraikes are adorable. Especially when they rip your enemies apart. Beware though; do not take the AI lightly. Even though they might be stupid, they have their bright moments. You may find your campaign come to a halt sooner than predicted.
3) Megale Hellas to the West is a tempting target as well. Just meddle a bit with Taras and the Epeirotai, and soon enough you'll incite the Romaioi in giving you a pretext (aka attacking you) for invading their lands. From there, you can expand to Aphrike and fight your own Punic Wars, or into Gallia to revenge your forefathers for the Galatian invasion.
4) The Crimean is another profitable target. The Taurike Chersonesos can give you control over much of the trade flowing from the Euxeinos Pontos. Also, there are several excellent units you can draw upon, like Skythian archers, HAs, and Thureopherontes Toxotai (try them!).

I can think about many more targets, but it's up to you. One word of advice; roleplay as much as you can. It makes the game so much more enjoyable  Also, try taking notes of your actions to keep track of what you're doing, snap a few pics and who knows, you might even start writing a nice AAR

Indeed, I experienced it that way also! It's a good starter and you also summed it up nicely. Choosing my wars was nice, sadly I missed out on my Hysteroi by attacking Rome quick.

Also it may sound a bit like cheating but if I remember correctly you can hold Pella, use akontistai to kill the elephants that attack the gate, when they are dead they can no longer enter Pella and will withdraw!:beam:

It is up to you if you want to blitz or roleplay, just play how you like best and enjoy this awesome mod the most!

It doesn't matter if you play Macedonia or Epeiros, sooner or later your army will be a Thracian one anyway :D
