What's the Irish entry? I loved the turkey from last year.
I have NEVER liked the winner song. Sometimes it makes me wonder what is the criteria to choose the winner. For example, I don't like at all the last winner.
I have not seen those of this year, or maybe I did and I don't remember. When did the France submitted the "s'il fallait le faire"? :inquisitive:
Anyways, who do you think will win this time, or which entries are the best ones, to take a look on them. :beam:
What? That still exists? They should move with the times and make a Eurovision Casting Contest
Something like "EuroIdol"... :idea2:
You know who wins? The sexiest and freakiest contestants. :P Check out the Norwegian one, it is REALLY good.

With no offence to him... he looks a bit cocky... sound is alright... but there's none as good as Lordi way back in 2006.
Not that many hot entrants either. Ukraine has basically entered a singing stripper. Russian's song is good... but I prefer their entry in 2007; Serebro- Song No#1.
If anyone asks... yes I am most likely obsessed or insane. :laugh4:

lol, he looks like he is really enjoying himself, that is what I like about it. And I love the Frikar dancers too.

I never could know that I'd be saying this ever in my lifetime, however that Norwegian song is something above the standards of Eurovision.
Terrific, I say. Here is Alexander Rybak, Norway (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4D_hguWPQE).

.
Her wiggling aß is the best weapon of the Turko-Belgian chick and they disabled it with the stupid, cliché belly dancer costume. The song is not a song at all, her already mediocre voice is buried deep into bad arrangement and the dances don't live up to having an expectation. :rtwno:

I could not agree more! It is fantastic! And BTW, Alex is Belarusian by birth.
BTW, how is the voting done with this? Are there judges or do people in Europe submit votes somehow or what?

All the countries paticipating votes using points 1-12. But because of constant failings in the voting... and border/block voting, they've introduced a judge panel... Sort of like Additional Member System if anyone understands what I mean.
I like the Russian entry... you have to listen to it a few times... and my lfuency in spanish draws me towards their entry.
I have a theory that Lloyd-Webber will go insane if he doesn't win the song contest this year for britain. Thus we'll have some more musicals coming out, with underlying metaphors about the destruction of europe through the medium of song.
It just started on BBC1 - I missed the first two songs, but I heard the following:
France - I dislike it, the song made no sense whatsoever... but the crowd went wild.
Sweden - An opera singer? AWESOME!
Croatia - Blahhh....
Portugal - Quaint and endearing, got quite a nice feel to the song. Me like :2thumbsup:

Oh man. How could a host country make up a grand fiasco for themselves?
By wasting a woman who does not possess ability to sing with video of her aging gradually in the background.
My ears are still bleeding.

Congrats to Norway for such a beautiful song.

Congratulations to Norway... despite my personal opinion of the singer.
Anyway...
Norway
Iceland
Azerbaijan
Turkey
United Kingdom!
We beat our streak of nil points!
and I liked the Russian song... if only I could be extremely fluent in cyrillic, I would have been joining in. Ok, maybe the singer wasn't all that great, and the background was weird... but still, it was an alright song.
Shame about Spain's entry doing that poorly...
France's entry... what was with the dancing?!
Never the less. it was a good concert... yet I preferred last year.
TO NORWAY 2010!

The Ukrainian and UK entries were physically offensive to the ears.
Well Norway apparently got more points (387) than any other country in Eurovision ever... so someone like that song :P
Next best was Finland with 292 a few years ago, if Graham Norton is to be believed.

Lordi was... quite original, to say the least.
in my opinion Germany should have won.
Anything with Dita Von Teese on it has to win dammit.... :2thumbsup:

I very much liked the UK entry. It was so... so... western. The girl has an amazing voice. :2thumbsup:
I absolutely despise the Norwegian song. Bah, really annoying. But at least it's Norway that has won.

Why does Eurovision song contest still exist?
It is a contest about which nation will embarass themselves the most...

1. Because people like to watch fancy setups with singing?
2. Because girlfriends/wives are a strong influence?
3. Because it's cheerful and gay?
Pick whichever you like. It should be seen as an opportunity for people to travel around Europe and spend time with people from different countries. This year it's in Moscow, last year Belgrade, year before than Helsinki, year before that Athens...
It definitely shouldn't be seen as a talent competition but as an opportunity for people to travel around and get together. In that regard, it ain't too bad...

I have laughed heartily every time I have come across a Eurovision song on the web. This is the first time to be honest that I have liked any song from it. I liked Norway and Slovakia, but esp Norway.
I thought the Norway entry this time was fantastic.

Europe's cultural output, in the form of monuments, museums, galleries etc should be seen as a motivating factor for travelling. Eurovision on the other side is Europe's un-cultural output...
Oh and Norwat should be sending this song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqGrgaQsIIE) every year. Nothing beats this song. :beam:

That's the entire point!
once you realise the slim chances of winning... hence you just make efforts to poke fun at it; Look at Vercha Seduchka, Ukraine 2007. And She Came Second!
Spain with Chiki Chiki last year, I highly doubt that anyone really expected that song to win.
@Rasoforos... sadly they have rules... yet none saying that we cant enter an act already on a contract; it's only the song which has to be new and unheard. :idea2: Now where are all these popular groups that go to europe... and also... they dont have to be the country's nationalities!
Oh and Norwat should be sending this song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqGrgaQsIIE) every year. Nothing beats this song. :beam: Too small of a top showing belly and cleavage is a sure win... Wait, didn't Grease submit such a entry this year? :beam:
Oh.. btw, I voted for Sweden. The best song in the contest hands down.

INFIDEL! CUT HIS HEAD OFF! ~;)
Norway all the way!
Best competition in years. Can't remember the last time UK finished in the top 5. Nice to see we can actually get some points if we make an effort (and shamelessly exploit a national icon).
Norway definitely the best song in the competition.
Alright.. I am going to make a real contribution in this thread. Sorry about calling Greece grease, but it was kind of payback for calling Norway Norwat.
I don't know how other countries in the extended Europe chose their entries, but here in Norway the concept is about the same as in the main event with semifinals. I guess there is a pre-screening of the entries which reduces the total entries to 21. they compete in 4 semifinals for 8 places in the final. I tend to think that the better songs will win in this system as the people voting have a chance to get to know the songs better.
Anyway - the fairytale won with quite a margin over the other entries. The closest one, a local girl (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ui556ny0r_M&feature=related) got 600 000 points less then Rybak.
I don't think Fairytale is the better song, but the multilayer package that comes with Rybak makes him a winner.
This is an immigrant kid from Soviet (Belarus) that plays the fiddle.
Fairytale is based on some national romantic riffs from Norway - esp the violin parts.
He has a dance group dancing some traditional Halling dance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halling_%28dance%29).
His character is very sympathetic and his persona is taken straight out of the traditional fairytales of Norway with Askeladden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Askeladden) (the hero), a poor kid who always get the princess and half the kingdom for bravery and heroism.
He is just too likeable and I guess the rest of Europe thought so too.
We could not vote for him in the European contest as his home nation. I usually don't vote in such contests, but I thought the Swedish song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WH2OwJeMBE&NR=1) vote-worthy.
I like classical music and I know Elena Ernman from the Opera world. She has a crazy personality which I find so funny and she can be quite the clown. She is not a Diva, but quite sympathetic. She is a great mezzo-soprano.

I'll agree and disagree. I think it was definately the whole package that made Alex so irresistable, but I also think his song was better than anything they had there. No offense, but I think that local girl is horrible. :P And the Swedish woman sounded like a guy. :P Not just the song and his singing though, he put so much life into it even with the way he held himself, he seemed such an honest, likeable character. The dancing of course though was half of it imho. Unlike a lot of the entries, they danced with the song, not against it.

Dear Citizens of Europe, Friends and Fellow Humans:
Let me be the first to apologize. We went too far this year. In our defense, we can only say that it was never our intention. We tough it harmless, we were proven wrong.
Now somebody, anybody, please BREAK THAT BLOODY FIDDLE BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111
Seriously.
Also, did anyone notice that the further east you go, the more the women look like street prostitutes of the rather cheap kind? Did the eastern block countries host auditions in brothels, or what?

congrats to norway, it seems the best song won.
i was also pleased to note a reduced degree of bloc voting this year, and given that i use eurovision to judge the political maturity of the continent i can now conclude that the euro electorate are no longer entirely infantile.
congrats to 330 million people in fact!
Unfortunately I suspect much of the reason for the lower degree of bloc voting this year is the change to the voting system, in that this year each country's vote was split 50/50 between televoting and a jury, as opposed to 100% televoting.

I don't like any of the Eurovision songs.
The good news is that there's an indication of broadening of the genres. Then again, the odds of a winner in a smaller genre is questionable.
For the Fairytale imo, mediocre singing, good music, extremly "hummingfriendly (can't properly translate)". I suspect I'll join HoreTore in a while, when gotten fed up with it. Summer torment warning.
Sigurd, our poor results tell something about the popularity in opera in certain population groups at the moment.
