When a province builds a swordsmith all the units' weapons are upgraded in the meantime. But for the archer, does the swordsmith upgrade the deadliness of their bows or they upgrade the archers' hand to hand weapon? And gunners for that matter, too.

good ???? it Makes you think But in all if your Guy has a lil sword by him i would say it would go to his primary weapon so maybe they put barbs on the arrows and hollowed out the musket round http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

The swordsmith only improves melee weapons. The basic swordsmith adds +1 to attack values, the famous smith +2 and the legendary smith +3. Bows and firearms are uneffected by smiths.

Back in the Days of the Demo, we had some of CA's programmers in the forum (anyone remember Target?) and they gave us some details about How It Works. Indeed, they said that Swordsmiths ONLY affect melee weapons. Nature and terrain affects ranged weapons - archers up on a ridge do more damage and are more accurate when firing down upon the enemy, and do less damage and miss more, when firing up at someone.

I have relied on the Prima strategy guide and a thread that appeared a long time ago in a forum far, far away...

So truth be told, I can't say that I am metaphysically certain, only quite confident. Besides, it makes sense. Muskets ARE the improved firearms.

As always, hard evidence to the contrary would be welcome should any turn up.

Thanks for the coincidental backup, Banzai! Our posts crossed in the ether! That Target post WAS a long time ago!
