I just found this interesting...
Story: FIRST I just heard about it vaguely and saw the Clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XMvviFbkf0) from the competition. I was not offended at all. She stood for her beliefs and articulated them on TV. She did not flame anyone or anything, she just explained that she was raised to believe marriage should be between man and wife.
ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with that. Sure I found it a bit old-fashioned, but it was in no way offending.
BTW, this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwNHE3QXVc4&feature=fvst) is a joke, right?
Just wondered how this all has been recieved in the states?
I later heard her on some interviews, and sometimes she really says stupid things.
The reason I care is because I have some gay friends really interested...

Heh this got mentioned on the US-dominated Christian forums I browse. The general consensus was that she kind of lost the authority to make such judgements after walking around half naked on TV.
I'd do her.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if this wasn't a setup from the beginning. The Miss USA pageant has lost it's relevance, and I can see the Donald pulling something like this just to get some publicity.
That aside, who cares? She has her beliefs, and she stated them. It's not like the winner gets any authority, it's just a beauty pageant.
The two links are the same, by the way.

Fixed, sorry. Second link is hilarious though :)

OK having seen that second link its definetely a publicity thing.

The second link is not her, it's definitely a joke.
Miss Cali's biggest mistake was poor PR savvy. The judge that asked the question is Perez Hilton, celeb "insider", gossiper, and attention whore extraordinaire. He will go as far with this as possible to keep himself in the news, and has the contacts to dig up any potential dirt on the girl. He's also openly gay. She either should have known better, or it was done on purpose.
You go girl. I really can't believe how some people were so willing to destroy her.

I enjoyed her gunatanomo bay quotes a lot more to be honest.

Just wondered how this all has been recieved in the states?
It got coverage daily for about a week, maybe 10 days. First in TV media, and radio talk-shows, then gossip sites interested in the celeb angles, but has died down now. Apparently she's been offered a position (or a tryout for a position) at Fox News.
I wonder, with drone, how much of this hoo-haw was engineered, since the story arc reads like a reality-show transcript.

These competitions are all :daisy:. I mean, her face looks woefully artificial.
At least she's articulate enough at her own points.
So I suppose someone had an issue with what she said?
The rest-intelligence I got left tells me it was about her beliefs concerning marriage and that she used her right to express them. Why do some people hate free speech? :inquisitive:
It's like "I will give my life for your right to say whatever you want but I'll raise hell if you say something I don't agree with!" The irony being that lefties actually go to hell but can't raise it. :dizzy2:

It's a non-issue, and I applaud her for having the courage of her convictions and being honest instead of being politically correct.
California has "bigger fish to fry" than to get bunged up over Miss California's opinion on gay marriage. Talk about trivial pursuits...

Exact same here. I dislike Evangelicals very much, but I always respect a person who does not compromise their beliefs. She had to answer that question, evading it would not have worked most likely.

It was probably an on-the-air job interview for a Fox News anchor position.

MSNBC, more likely. Just because of that turd's politics.

Meh, whatever, her position isn't that odd or extreme. I don't understand why people got into a lather about it.
Besides which, nobody will ever top this one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WALIARHHLII).

The problem with these modern women is that they are exposed to the perils of education (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjxY9rZwNGU).
I for one am willing to spend some time with Miss California in the appropriate accomodation (jacuzzi+champagne) to, eh, educate and teach her, ehm, "things", and such... :sweatdrop: :eyebrows:

Don't see what all the fuss is about... seemed fairly well spoken and intelligent by beauty paegent standards... may disgaree with her views but there wasn't anything paticularly wrong with them....

I am happy that you are willing to take her to an appropriate setting and show her by example that there is nothing wrong with gay love. Get some hot steamy sex going with a guy and show her the error of her homophobic ways!

You say that when Miss California says it. Put those same words in a post by one of your "favorite" patrons here in the Backroom and the result would be different I'd hazard to guess. But in looking at Miss California, I'd say there is absolutely nothing wrong with your statement. :laugh4:

Yeah *still shuddering from last year's mess-up of that geography-related question*
if anyone is to blame it is that idiot who asked the question. politics + beauty competitions = a mess
Agreed. That was quite likely to be a trap question, and I do believe reading somewhere that it was intended to be such. In any case, that was a very sensitive issue, one that should not have been asked in any similar situation. Just like abortion and affirmative action, just to name a few.
Eh... it's all over blown. Not sure why Hilton was even on the board, his reaction to her answer was funny imho.... she made a clear statement of where she was at and there should be nothing wrong in stating that. Kudos to her also for continuing to stand up for herself afterward during her interviews...

I would imagine that the kind of people judging this thing would be more likely pro gay marriage... so kudos for sticking to her views rather than saying what the judges wanted to hear!

People actually pay attention to parts of the Miss USA pageant that aren't the swimsuit competition? ~;)

So what do you think of the photos ?
OK the judges have decided that as its the 21st century it doesn't really count as real pornography anymore so she can keep her Miss California title , but really should a good ol evangelical girl be flashing her bits for money(or not for money in some cases)

I'm afraid I won't Miss California. Sane sex seems like a good idea to me though, whether inside or out of marriage. Btw I always knew that Paris Hilton was a girl. They didn't fool me!

I was angry. I mean I have nipples and I'm willing to wager my b00bs are that size if not bigger.
Softcore bullcrap if you ask me. This is 21st century, you mean you couldn't find any whips or chains or gerbils. Not even a bloody video!
What is my socitey coming to?

http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2009/03/miss-universe-visits-guantanamo.html
Miss Universe, together with Miss America, paid a visit to Guantanamo. This her blog account of the trip:
This week, Guantanamo!!! It was an incredible experience.
We arrived in Gitmo on Friday and started going around the town, everybody knew Crystle and I were coming so the first thing we did was attend a big lunch and then we visited one of the bars they have in the base. We talked about Gitmo and what is was like living there.
The next days we had a wonderful time, this truly was a memorable trip! We hung out with the guys from the East Coast and they showed us the boat inside and out, how they work and what they do, we took a ride around the land and it was a loooot of fun!
We also met the Military dogs, and they did a very nice demonstration of their skills. All the guys from the Army were amazing with us. We visited the Detainees camps and we saw the jails, where they shower, how they recreate themselves with movies, classes of art, books. It was very interesting.
We took a ride with the Marines around the land to see the division of Gitmo and Cuba while they were informed us with a little bit of history. The water in Guantánamo Bay is soooo beautiful! It was unbelievable, we were able to enjoy it for at least an hour.
We went to the glass beach, and realized the name of it comes from the little pieces of broken glass from hundred of years ago. It is pretty to see all the colors shining with the sun. That day we met a beautiful lady named Rebeca who does wonders with the glasses from the beach. She creates jewelry with it and of course I bought a necklace from her that will remind me of Guantánamo Bay :)
I didn’t want to leave, it was such a relaxing place, so calm and beautiful.
Is that a joke? Surely it isn't possible for a person to be that stupid.

How...
entertaining. :)
"And then we met one of the inmates, a fellow named Abdul. He did a 'Death to America!' show for us, and I got to shake his hand and tell him that my leader says the same thing! And that I wish him all luck in the whole world. Staying in-character, he growled at me and eyed my chest. What a hoot!"

Just so it's clear who is blogging, it is Dayana Mendoza, Miss Venezuala, aka Miss Universe:

What an adorable creature :smitten:
She looks like she is about to take a chunk out of your neck.
Now where did I put my wooden stake and UV flood light...
Well, she looks good enough to be able to say that. :sweatdrop:
She could say almost anything and I wouldn't mind, though I'd draw the line somewhere between "the Armenian genocide never happened" and "you're butt ugly, get out of my sight!".
I mean this is some kind of miss contest, they're not supposed to use their brain to think about the not-so-nice things in this world, it doesn't fit their pretty face when they don't smile and would destroy the whole glamour and glitter of these fragile little things. Banquo already posted the relevant video here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=2239278&postcount=21).

Technically, she apparently wanted to have a right of refusal for appearances; she attended some, but declined to cover a gay movie premier, an appearance in Costa Rica, and some kinda event at Playboy, Inc.
I wonder whatever happened to her rumored Fox tryout.
