I recently read an article that mentioned this nobles of the Pontic Kingdom. Becouse of that i remembered that they were in RTW, and that their description said they were almost as brave and disciplined as the men of Sparta.
Is there any truth to this? Did Pontos really field men of such quality? Or is it just another Arcani type vanilla unit?
If they were real, why aren't they in EB?
Hope anyone knows anythinh about this subject:2thumbsup:

From what I know, the men of Pontos were historically quite brave. Such descriptions go as far as the times of the Byzantine Empire, when Pontos (with Trapezous as it's capital, IIRC) was declared autonomous and had to fight their own against the Turks. According to some sources, they were brave men, but "equiped poorly". At least that's what our history books said about the matter :sweatdrop:

In RTR Pontos had unit called "Pontic nobles", and they were one of the strongest units in the game, similar to roman triarii. If i can remember correctly, in description of that unit it compares them to spartans...

Yes I remember the nobles as well, they were called Sinopic or Pontic, depends on the RTR version.

Same for me, I dont recall any nobles in RTW. They had bronze shields as best troops (chalkaspides).
In RTR I remember hoplitai, pezoi, chalkaspides and Pontic/Sinopic nobles.. capital was Pharnacia there. RTR also had gold shields (Chyraspides).
