Hax

Friends, #tworgers, countryworldymen, lend me your ears (if they have not been eaten yet)
I have created this threat(pun on the title, awesome) thread to discuss THE LIVING DEAD. I will start a discussion on THE LIVING DEAD by posting a discussion we had several months ago in the IRC chatroom.
[2009-01-20 22:05:31] <GoreBag> :daisy: you, Hax. Zombies don't run.
[2009-01-20 22:05:39] <Hax> I haven't said so
[2009-01-20 22:05:48] <Hax> Anyone :daisy:er who's read The Zombie Survival Guide knows that
[2009-01-20 22:05:51] <Hax> And :daisy: Dawn of the Dead
[2009-01-20 22:05:55] <Whacker> hehehe
[2009-01-20 22:06:15] <Whacker> It just so happens that I agree with you both, fast zombies are a myth
[2009-01-20 22:06:28] <Hax> I was watching it with my girlfriend and some friends and I was eventually evicted from the room
[2009-01-20 22:06:33] <Whacker> However I am pointing out for argument's sake that others do erroniously believe in fast zombies
[2009-01-20 22:06:44] <Hax> because I kept critisising it.
[2009-01-20 22:06:48] <Hax> *critizising
[2009-01-20 22:06:49] <Hax> ..eh
[2009-01-20 22:06:56] -->| Guildenstern (~Guildenst@adsl-ull-49-27.49-151.net24.it) has joined #tworg
[2009-01-20 22:07:13] <GoreBag> You mean the new version of Dawn of the Dead, I can only assume.
[2009-01-20 22:07:24] =-= Mode #tworg +o Guildenstern by GoreBag
[2009-01-20 22:07:30] <Hax> yes.
[2009-01-20 22:07:33] <Hax> 2006 movie
[2009-01-20 22:07:35] <Hax> IIRC
[2009-01-20 22:07:37] <Hax> Or something like that
[2009-01-20 22:07:38] <Guildenstern> hello everybody
[2009-01-20 22:07:39] <GoreBag> Ahh, Guildenstern's Italian, he probably has a tidbit or two to add.
[2009-01-20 22:07:49] <Hax> 2004.
[2009-01-20 22:08:26] <Guildenstern> what about?
[2009-01-20 22:08:30] <GoreBag> Guildenstern, what are you views on zombies, particularly whether or not they have the ability to run?
[2009-01-20 22:08:32] <Xiahou> whacker, have u loaded all your warez on Google yet?
[2009-01-20 22:09:16] <Whacker> yase
[2009-01-20 22:09:27] <Guildenstern> I don't think they can run actually
[2009-01-20 22:09:32] <Whacker> n i posted linx so u can all doanload!!
[2009-01-20 22:10:24] <Guildenstern> GoreBag: I've never seen a movie with a running zombie
[2009-01-20 22:10:36] <Hax> @Guild: Dawn of the Dead, 2004
[2009-01-20 22:10:39] <GoreBag> A credit to your country.
[2009-01-20 22:10:48] <Hax> Indeed.
[2009-01-20 22:10:50] <GoreBag> Like Hax said, and also the 28 Days/Weeks Later movies.
[2009-01-20 22:11:17] <GoreBag> Don't they run in the Resident Evil movies as well?
[2009-01-20 22:11:18] <Hax> ORLY?!
[2009-01-20 22:11:21] <Hax> Could be
[2009-01-20 22:11:25] <Husar> I just loaded all my work files onto my google storage
[2009-01-20 22:11:29] <Hax> I know there was a variant of zombie that ran in the Thief games
[2009-01-20 22:11:31] <Husar> very useful
[2009-01-20 22:11:34] <Hax> Actually only in Thief III
[2009-01-20 22:11:46] <Hax> But they were more animated corpses by necromantic power of a haunted house
[2009-01-20 22:11:53] <Husar> eh, left4dead has running zombies
[2009-01-20 22:11:57] <Whacker> 28 days/weeks later aren't "zombie" movies
[2009-01-20 22:11:58] <Hax> also not really sure if they were corpses
[2009-01-20 22:12:11] <Husar> also my virus scanner is powered by google
[2009-01-20 22:12:15] <Husar> as is my firewall
[2009-01-20 22:12:19] <GoreBag> They are, Whacker, but they :daisy:.
[2009-01-20 22:12:20] <Husar> my Operating system
[2009-01-20 22:12:25] <Husar> and my brain
[2009-01-20 22:13:01] <Hax> well
[2009-01-20 22:13:09] <Hax> Weren't the 28 days/weeks later guys just living humans
[2009-01-20 22:13:16] <Hax> With this weird infection thing.
[2009-01-20 22:13:19] <Hax> ..hey wait, that's a zombie
[2009-01-20 22:13:21] <Husar> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tLqeTk11M8&sdig=1
[2009-01-20 22:13:22] <Whacker> I don't agree whorebag
[2009-01-20 22:13:29] <Husar> look at the arsenal in the background
[2009-01-20 22:13:33] <Husar> and the cap
[2009-01-20 22:13:55] <Whacker> I can see the attempt but I don't think they're following in the same spirit as the original zombie flicks
[2009-01-20 22:14:16] <Guildenstern> hey, the zombies in "I'm legend" can actually run
[2009-01-20 22:14:41] <Husar> yes, good point
[2009-01-20 22:14:57] <GoreBag> Which 'original' zombie flicks, Whacker?
[2009-01-20 22:15:12] <Husar> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcPju4AyAPg&feature=related
[2009-01-20 22:15:20] <Husar> he also presents them
[2009-01-20 22:15:36] <Hax> Okay
[2009-01-20 22:15:38] <Hax> So GoreBag
[2009-01-20 22:15:50] <Hax> What would you do when a zombie infection breaks loose?
[2009-01-20 22:16:10] <Hax> I mean
[2009-01-20 22:16:14] <Whacker> the original Romero flicks whorebag
[2009-01-20 22:16:16] <Hax> Really, REALLY breaks loose
[2009-01-20 22:16:22] <GoreBag> That largely depends on how I was informed, where I was and what my current situation was.
[2009-01-20 22:16:36] <Hax> Yes
[2009-01-20 22:16:51] <GoreBag> 28 Days Later was the same idea as Dawn of the Dead, Whacker.
[2009-01-20 22:17:11] <Whacker> that I don't agree with
[2009-01-20 22:17:29] <Whacker> well
[2009-01-20 22:17:35] <Whacker> which "Dawn of the Dead" are we talking about
[2009-01-20 22:17:37] <Whacker> the original or the new one
[2009-01-20 22:17:45] <GoreBag> Worst case, I figure, is that I'm in bed when my zombie parents bust in and try to eat my face. I keep a child size baseball bat in my room for that just so I can swing it with one hand, and I have a boot knife as well.
[2009-01-20 22:17:48] <GoreBag> The original.
[2009-01-20 22:17:55] <Whacker> ok, then I don't agree
[2009-01-20 22:18:03] <Whacker> Night and Dawn were both based on dead corpses rising
[2009-01-20 22:18:19] <Hax> @Gorebag: that's interesting
[2009-01-20 22:18:23] <Whacker> 28 days was based on some stupid virus turning people into mindless killers, but they were still alive
[2009-01-20 22:18:24] <GoreBag> I wouldn't put Dawn and Night in the same bin.
[2009-01-20 22:18:42] <GoreBag> Furthermore, you know very well that zombies aren't dead.
[2009-01-20 22:18:59] <GoreBag> They still bleed and have rudimentary brain and motor functions.
[2009-01-20 22:19:20] <Whacker> Of course they aren't dead
[2009-01-20 22:19:22] <Whacker> they're undead
[2009-01-20 22:19:35] <GoreBag> After that, Hax, I can only assume that my house is already full of zombies because my parents were stupid enough to buy man-sized windows in the front.
[2009-01-20 22:19:45] <Hax> I concur
[2009-01-20 22:19:50] <Hax> However, zombies can't climb, can they?
[2009-01-20 22:19:58] <Hax> Nor walk stairs
[2009-01-20 22:20:04] <GoreBag> So I throw my favourite jeans on, grab a set of car keys and my combat boots and cheese it.
[2009-01-20 22:20:13] <Hax> though I think they can limp on stairs
[2009-01-20 22:20:18] <Hax> Throw themselves up perhaps
[2009-01-20 22:20:19] <GoreBag> Call a few of my nearby friends from any phone I can find.
[2009-01-20 22:20:35] <GoreBag> The zombies in the original Dawn of the Dead did both, actually.
[2009-01-20 22:20:43] <GoreBag> Climbed stairs and a ladder.
[2009-01-20 22:20:53] <Whacker> a ladder?
[2009-01-20 22:20:55] <Whacker> that I don't remember
[2009-01-20 22:20:57] <Whacker> but stairs yes
[2009-01-20 22:20:59] <GoreBag> The last scene.
[2009-01-20 22:21:05] <Husar> "Nowhere in the word of god does it say that we can not defend our home and family, it's just that simple."
[2009-01-20 22:21:12] <Hax> shit
[2009-01-20 22:21:14] <Hax> A ladder?
[2009-01-20 22:21:15] <GoreBag> I'm confident they'd be able to climb the chain attached to an anchor as well.
[2009-01-20 22:22:10] <Hax> Hmm.
[2009-01-20 22:22:25] <Hax> Are their motor functions still intact enough for that
[2009-01-20 22:22:31] <Hax> What exactly do zombies do with their brain
[2009-01-20 22:22:38] <Hax> If they could climb ladders, they could wield guns
[2009-01-20 22:22:40] <Hax> Theoretically
[2009-01-20 22:22:48] <GoreBag> Of course, if I hear about the outbreak from a friend, that gives me enough time to gather more hand weapons, blankets, food, a can of gas and other supplies.
[2009-01-20 22:22:57] <GoreBag> They can wield them, but not fire them.
[2009-01-20 22:24:11] <Whacker> wield...
[2009-01-20 22:24:18] <GoreBag> One zombie fired a pistol in Day of the Dead after having been basically trained to regain more of his mental faculties, but that movie wasn't great anyway.
[2009-01-20 22:24:23] <Whacker> I don't remember zombies being capable or using tools
[2009-01-20 22:24:27] <Hax> yeah
[2009-01-20 22:24:34] <Whacker> of
[2009-01-20 22:24:43] <GoreBag> The first zombie in Night used a rock to bash the car window in.
[2009-01-20 22:25:00] <GoreBag> And there are spoken references to zombies using bludgeons in Dawn of the Dead.
[2009-01-20 22:25:00] <Hax> So their mental facilities still function
[2009-01-20 22:25:05] <Hax> And they can also use their eyes
[2009-01-20 22:25:30] <GoreBag> Moreover, I refer to the zombie who grabbed a rifle from one of the protagonists in Dawn of the Dead and just kind of held it in front of himself awkwardly for the rest of the movie.
[2009-01-20 22:26:33] <Hax> Hmm
[2009-01-20 22:26:35] <Hax> Okay
[2009-01-20 22:26:43] <Whacker> I don't remember the rock bit
[2009-01-20 22:26:45] <Hax> Pretty well spoofed in Shaun of the Dead
[2009-01-20 22:26:51] <Whacker> but zombies are capable or doing rudimentary actions
[2009-01-20 22:26:54] <Whacker> of
[2009-01-20 22:28:04] <Xiahou> is that based on your studies?
[2009-01-20 22:28:08] <Husar> "400 rounds, at your door, in your door, or before they get in your door..."
[2009-01-20 22:28:21] <GoreBag> I forgot to mention the blind templars from the Amando de Ossorio movies, but they're not really in the same case there, either.
[2009-01-20 22:28:28] <Husar> this guy could tell you about zombie defense i guess
[2009-01-20 22:28:40] <Husar> just replace new world order with zombies and you're set
[2009-01-20 22:28:44] <GoreBag> I don't think there's anything about zombies in the Bible, Hus.
[2009-01-20 22:28:53] <Husar> me too
[2009-01-20 22:29:09] <Whacker> stupid xhole pls
[2009-01-20 22:29:12] <Husar> except maybe lazarus
[2009-01-20 22:29:17] <GoreBag> But yeah, I've spent a lot of time worrying about it the same way this guy has obviously been worrying about unnameable 'NWO' dudes showing up at his door.
[2009-01-20 22:29:30] <Husar> oh, they are nameable
[2009-01-20 22:29:34] <Husar> the US government
[2009-01-20 22:29:36] <Whacker> hehe
[2009-01-20 22:29:57] <GoreBag> Good point about Lazarus, actually.
[2009-01-20 22:30:04] <Husar> the AR-15 is the patriot weapon of choice
[2009-01-20 22:30:12] <Hax> I'd probably leave for an island, methinks
[2009-01-20 22:30:19] <Hax> If I could go there
[2009-01-20 22:30:32] <Hax> If my parents were dead, I'd grab my mothers car keys and quickly learned how to drive :P
[2009-01-20 22:30:45] <Husar> he also showed his girls (aged 16 and 14) how to use the AR-15
[2009-01-20 22:30:50] <Husar> and SKSs
[2009-01-20 22:31:14] <Whacker> showing kids how to shoot isn't a big deal
[2009-01-20 22:31:29] <Whacker> I was shooting .22's and lower cal handguns at 12 or so
[2009-01-20 22:31:38] <Husar> yes
[2009-01-20 22:31:48] <Whacker> if anything I think it's good to teach respect and proper care of firearms at a young age
[2009-01-20 22:31:49] <Husar> but when you train them to use them "when they come"
[2009-01-20 22:31:52] <Husar> it's a bit scary
[2009-01-20 22:31:58] <Whacker> heheh
[2009-01-20 22:32:03] <Whacker> 3 rounds CoM is all you need
[2009-01-20 22:32:05] <Hax> Hehe
[2009-01-20 22:32:07] <Hax> It's scary indeed
[2009-01-20 22:32:11] <Hax> Give me a katana anyday
[2009-01-20 22:32:13] <Hax> A bit short yes
[2009-01-20 22:32:24] <Hax> How about a katana with some shuriken and darts
[2009-01-20 22:32:26] <GoreBag> I always figured that a boat would be a good call, Hax, so long as one didn't drop anchor for extended periods of time.
[2009-01-20 22:32:33] <Whacker> whorebag
[2009-01-20 22:32:35] <Hax> I concur, Gore
[2009-01-20 22:32:39] <Hax> OH YES
[2009-01-20 22:32:49] <Whacker> methinks the anchor chain climbing is probably not very feasible
[2009-01-20 22:32:54] <Hax> Then I'd go to the North and grab my uncle's sailing boat
[2009-01-20 22:32:55] <Husar> CoM?
[2009-01-20 22:32:57] <Hax> He has supplies in there.
[2009-01-20 22:33:01] <Whacker> Center of Mass
[2009-01-20 22:33:03] <Hax> The north is Loosdrecht
[2009-01-20 22:33:08] <Hax> I can reach full water from there.
[2009-01-20 22:33:11] <GoreBag> And since it can be assumed that zombies will rot themselves to incapacitation eventually, all one needs to outlast them.
[2009-01-20 22:33:12] <Whacker> you aim for the center of chest
[2009-01-20 22:33:19] <Whacker> Whorebag
[2009-01-20 22:33:24] <Whacker> let's talk about that
[2009-01-20 22:33:28] <GoreBag> I know it's controversial, Whacker.
[2009-01-20 22:33:35] <Husar> he also uses laser lights on them because "they come in the middle of the night, they won't come in the day"
[2009-01-20 22:33:36] <Whacker> the rot part
[2009-01-20 22:33:47] <Whacker> is this a natural flesh decay function?
[2009-01-20 22:33:53] <Whacker> or is this a specialized process?
[2009-01-20 22:34:05] <Whacker> because the human body decays naturally rather quickly
[2009-01-20 22:34:21] <GoreBag> But considering the strength of an individual zombie, enough to pull a man apart with only a few of them, plus the extra buoyancy of submersion in water makes it a factor I can't afford to ignore even if it's unlikely or debatable.
[2009-01-20 22:34:33] <GoreBag> It's my understanding that zombies decay more slowly.
[2009-01-20 22:34:59] <Whacker> mine as well
[2009-01-20 22:35:07] <Whacker> however the mechanics I don't understand very well
[2009-01-20 22:35:20] <Husar> ah, he doesn't have a shotgun because he expects "multiple individuals"
[2009-01-20 22:35:26] <Whacker> also, I was under the impression that zombies had special characteristics that did not allow them to float
[2009-01-20 22:35:47] <Hax> like
[2009-01-20 22:35:49] <Hax> Holes.
[2009-01-20 22:35:54] <Hax> They'd sink, no?
[2009-01-20 22:36:01] <Whacker> even the non-perforated ones
[2009-01-20 22:36:02] <Hax> ..hmm
[2009-01-20 22:36:04] <Hax> Well yeah
[2009-01-20 22:36:06] <GoreBag> Floating is not the problem, it's walking along the bottom until they find your anchor.
[2009-01-20 22:36:14] <Whacker> correct
[2009-01-20 22:36:20] <Whacker> hence I can't say it's impossible
[2009-01-20 22:36:21] <Whacker> HOWEVER
[2009-01-20 22:36:30] <GoreBag> Or walking along the lake's floor until they reach your quaint, little lakeside cottage.
[2009-01-20 22:36:49] <Whacker> the zombie would have to have some innate knowledge that would cause them to recognize the anchor chain and begin to climb it
[2009-01-20 22:36:57] <Hax> Yes
[2009-01-20 22:37:02] <GoreBag> Not unreasonable to me, Whacker.
[2009-01-20 22:37:07] <Whacker> thus I would surmise that only a very small number of zombies would know this
[2009-01-20 22:37:10] <Hax> Especially seeing that the Zombie's eyesight has degenerated
[2009-01-20 22:37:12] <GoreBag> They recognize malls and the like as being places where people congregate.
[2009-01-20 22:37:14] <Hax> How about their sense of feeling
[2009-01-20 22:37:20] <Husar> oh my goodness
[2009-01-20 22:37:23] <Hax> Yeah recognize
[2009-01-20 22:37:28] <Hax> But a mall is a lot bigger than an anchor line
[2009-01-20 22:37:30] <Hax> In water.
[2009-01-20 22:37:31] <Whacker> well they recognize buildings
[2009-01-20 22:37:32] <Husar> now they're throwing out the constitution altogether
[2009-01-20 22:37:36] <Husar> says this other guy
[2009-01-20 22:37:38] <Husar> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VvqXrjxjJI
[2009-01-20 22:37:40] <GoreBag> And others enter cars because they know that that's what one does with them, even if their motor skills are so poor that they can't operate the vehicle.
[2009-01-20 22:38:00] <Husar> I suspect it's WHACKEr
[2009-01-20 22:38:01] <Xiahou> anyone read World War Z?
[2009-01-20 22:38:04] <Husar> in that last video
[2009-01-20 22:38:05] <GoreBag> True, Hax, a mall will attract more people.
[2009-01-20 22:38:06] <Whacker> that's more a question of what kind of residual motivations do zombies possess
[2009-01-20 22:38:09] <GoreBag> Not yet, Xiahou.
[2009-01-20 22:38:16] <Husar> no xiahou
[2009-01-20 22:38:16] <Whacker> are they simply acting on previous impulses
[2009-01-20 22:38:19] <Hax> Not yet
[2009-01-20 22:38:22] <Xiahou> then i submit none of you know what the hell youre talking about :P
[2009-01-20 22:38:23] <GoreBag> But any zombie who spots your boat from the coast will head towards it.
[2009-01-20 22:38:45] <Whacker> or is this all activity with the sole goal of locating more food?
[2009-01-20 22:38:46] <GoreBag> I submit that you're a jackass!
[2009-01-20 22:38:58] <Xiahou> I submit that- no u!
[2009-01-20 22:38:59] <Whacker> I second whorebag's submission
[2009-01-20 22:38:59] <GoreBag> A mix of both.
[2009-01-20 22:39:17] <Whacker> motion carries
[2009-01-20 22:39:18] <Xiahou> why do zombies eat?
[2009-01-20 22:39:19] <Whacker> xhole is a jackass
[2009-01-20 22:39:23] <Whacker> hang ur head in shame
[2009-01-20 22:39:27] <Hax> So
[2009-01-20 22:39:31] <Hax> Where would be the safest place
[2009-01-20 22:39:36] <Hax> An interesting question
[2009-01-20 22:39:39] <Whacker> dude, zombies have but ONE purpose, and that is to eat
[2009-01-20 22:39:47] <Xiahou> but why? theyre decaying
[2009-01-20 22:39:53] <GoreBag> Semi-nomadism is safest, I think.
[2009-01-20 22:39:55] <Hax> yeah
[2009-01-20 22:40:10] <Xiahou> and where does what they eat go? does it digest?
[2009-01-20 22:40:10] <Whacker> well they have to be
[2009-01-20 22:40:14] <Whacker> in order to locate food
[2009-01-20 22:40:27] <Whacker> it's similar to predators in the african plains
[2009-01-20 22:40:31] <Whacker> they follow the food sources
[2009-01-20 22:40:58] <Xiahou> i vote for rugged wilderness
[2009-01-20 22:41:06] <GoreBag> Even the most impressive fortress, self sufficient with canned food and hydroponic gardens would be in deep shit if a horde of zombies show up.
[2009-01-20 22:41:17] <Xiahou> zombies are notoriously bad in heavy woods
[2009-01-20 22:41:34] <Hax> Yes
[2009-01-20 22:41:39] <Hax> However
[2009-01-20 22:41:43] <Xiahou> however, can the animals become zombies? that could be trouble
[2009-01-20 22:41:54] <Hax> How about an area like treehouses
[2009-01-20 22:41:58] <GoreBag> Another controversial issue.
[2009-01-20 22:42:01] <Hax> With rope ladders
[2009-01-20 22:42:28] <Xiahou> typically, its a disease specific to the human species
[2009-01-20 22:42:39] <GoreBag> Safe for short periods, Hax, but if a pack of shamblers figure out that you're up there, they'll wait below longer than you can wait up top.
[2009-01-20 22:42:56] <Xiahou> no, u just need multiple exits
[2009-01-20 22:43:04] <GoreBag> For a treehouse?
[2009-01-20 22:43:06] <Xiahou> a tree-complex more than a house
[2009-01-20 22:43:18] <Xiahou> yes, bridge multiple trees
[2009-01-20 22:43:29] <Hax> Yep
[2009-01-20 22:43:35] <Hax> A tree-complex
[2009-01-20 22:43:36] <Hax> Exactly
[2009-01-20 22:43:43] <Hax> Especially with rope ladders
[2009-01-20 22:43:46] <Hax> Zombies can't climb trees
[2009-01-20 22:43:48] <GoreBag> That'd only function well if you weren't surrounded by a great number of them and had good transportation below.
[2009-01-20 22:44:05] <Xiahou> well we've debunked fast zombies havent we?
[2009-01-20 22:44:07] <Whacker> animals don't become zombies
[2009-01-20 22:44:09] <GoreBag> In multiple areas, of course, because a car surrounded by zombies is no good to anyone.
[2009-01-20 22:44:40] <GoreBag> It's occured to me to bridge several houses together and knock out the stairs in each, but that's a temporary solution and presupposes a rescue operation.
[2009-01-20 22:44:49] <Xiahou> unless 3000 somehow shamble up to your remote mountain treefort you should be able to get away
[2009-01-20 22:45:06] <Xiahou> i think thats unlikely
[2009-01-20 22:46:04] <Xiahou> u go somewhere where the population density extremely low and how many are you really gonna see?
[2009-01-20 22:46:11] <Whacker> xhole
So what do you think? Are zombies able to run/swim/fire guns/climb ladders? Are they agile, fast super-humans or shambling crude corpses? Where would you go in the case of a zombie invasion?
Mods, I tried to erase as many bad language as I could from the quote, but if you find any more feel free to eat their brains. I mean edit the post.
[2009-01-20 22:06:56] -->| Guildenstern (~Guildenst@adsl-ull-49-27.49-151.net24.it) has joined #tworg
