View Full Version : Russian last name problem
A minor thing, but it still looks sloppy. In Russian, last names take two gender forms, female and male. For some reason, CA has assigned female last name forms (ending in '-va' & '-ya') to many male characters in the government and among the agents...
On the same token, I find it highly unlikely XVIII century Russian soldiers would address anyone with "Da, ser" (Yes, sir). "Ser" is used in modern Russian for situations translated from English (if there is a reference to "sir" in the original) not in the native speech or formal army addresses.

Maybe they are secretly female
But I agree, that's rather sloppy. But then again, M2TW names were very sloppy too.

So ETW has offended Swiss and Russians so far? :laugh4:

What happened to Swiss? :laugh4:
BTW, not only those two you mentioned. Romanians got their share too since Transylvanian rebels are labeled "slav rebels". In the age depicted in the game, Transylvania had majority Magyar (Hungarian) nobles and Romanian peasants. Romanian is a romance language same as Italian and Spanish.

If you look at the campaign map, you'll see a grayed-out area where Switzerland should be. Its definitely a region, but inaccessible. Apparently, CA did make a swiss "faction" (with flag graphics and generic units etc.), but decided not to include in the game because of something about too many regions are already in the game.
Think of the most backwater region you can. CA is saying that place is more important than Switzerland, in a European-faction based game :2thumbsup:

Yes, that is weird... Swiss cantons were quite a force at the time of the game, especially since they managed to remain at least relatively independent.
