Since it's a complete conversion of MTW Viking Invasion you will be no more able to play Viking campaign.
Some notes:
- The mod arises from an italian version so, after the installation all files stored in the C:\Program files\Total war\Medieval - Total War\Loc\Ita, must be copied and pasted in your own language folder.
- Hyboria TW has been run on the following systems successfully:
Windows XP SP2 graphics : Nvidia GeForce Go7300 (Notebook)
Windows XP SP3 graphics : Ati Radeon X850XT PE AGP Driver version 8.201.0.0 (Catalyst 8.10)
Windows XP SP2 graphics : Ati Radeon HD 4850 PCIexpress Driver version 8.56.1.15
If asked, I could arrange later the upload of 8.10 Catalyst for ATI graphics boards.
This is just a previous release, a lot of material, especially for new units, is already on the way,
but I think that sharing it now could help to extend the mod to the components I was not able to manage :mellow: , so feel free to add your contribution.

Hyborian Age is a modification for MTW Viking Invasion 2.1, an idea coming from the map
of the hyborian continent by Vincent N. Darlage based on the essay of Dale E. Rippke
"The Dark Storm Conan Chronology" published since april to october 2003
( http://www.rehupa.com/rippke_chronology.htm ).
It is therefore strongly linked to books and novels of Robert E. Howard, but such a large world
needed something more to be populated so I've been using also novels of John Jakes
(Versus the sorceress, 1969), Karl Edward Wagner (Dark Crusade, 1976) and Norvell W.Page
(Flame Winds, 1939).
To be honest, all the rest, characters, names, units and other, has been taken from Taranaich's
MTW2 mod ‘Conan - Total War’ ( https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=231 ), check his thread.
The campaign map brings 70 land regions and 20 sea regions, the well-known Vilayet Sea is not
navigable.
The mod, even in its final, complete release, will NOT include:
-Shields (all I'm using now are the default/rebel shields)
-Modifications in battle map models (this means you can see Conan fighting beside a catholic cross)
-Heroes ( I've started this mod reading only Taranaich's thread and I can't begin now reading R.Howard)
-Famous Kings
-Muslim factions (Obviously it's not impossible. HTW has proven they might be added – after and not me)

Good luck with this. I contemplated a mod based on the Lemuria books by Lin Carter but it was too daunting. But I think a fantasy based mod would be great and I'll certainly play it.

As I said above there's a lot of work to be done for shields and heroes/famous kings;
if you want, you can add some Cimmerian, Aquilonian or Stygian hero, just know that

Hi how's it going? This is awesome. We don't have enough fantasy mods lying around for classic MTW. I'm not too familiar with the lore. I only know it because of Arnold lol. When the mmo came out I considered trying but I was so into WoW and I wouldn't have had time for both so I didn't bother. I'm looking forward to this. Hope the best.

There are three factions left to work on, I hope to make a good amount this summer. At the moment I'm filling the unit rosters.
Just sent in Cimmerian exclusive unit, the Ceitherne, great attack rating;
but the Aquilonian general got too many mounted berserkers and so I'm going to lose this battle :shame:

There's a lot of work left especially for the far east factions.
The current project for the mod includes 10 factions:
Aquilonians
Cimmerians
Stygians
Hyrkanians
Border Kingdoms
Turan empire
Zuagir tribes
Khitai empire
Kambujans
Suntai Khanate
Last 3 factions are completely new and I'm going to test how the mod works - with different cultures (In the original Viking Invasion we have only 2 cultures).
Moreover, faction no.7 (Vikings) has two problems:
- After some years, converts to Catholic religion
- Can sail without a port
This way faction n.7 is useless and must be changed or disabled.
I have to test if it's enough to change the culture from Pagan to something else (just like in Hellenic TW) or if I need to
hide the faction n.7 in the startpos file.

Lying low? There hasn't been much news for a few weeks. I'd like to know what's happening with the mod.
I've always believed that changing the name of faction no.7 in the startpos would fix that problem i.e. changing FN_07 in faction declarations to something else. Although I just assumed this and I've never actually gotten around to testing it heh. :sweatdrop:
If that doesn't work you might as well just hide the faction with a //.

Yes, FN_07 must be hidden, thank You for suggestion. In Hellenic TW, FN_07 is a muslim faction and I believed that it was enough to skip hardcoded instructions. But I checked the 'Geometric era' campaign again and Lydians (FN_07) sail with no need of port.
Now, I'm working on Kambujan units as I want to push in Burma War Elephant.

I do have a question I've been meaning to ask: Is naval combat going to be in HATW? I'd sort of been under the impression that there won't be (which is fine as far as I myself am concerned), but I don't wish to assume.

The map looks to be subdivided into sea regions. Also a fleet is visible in that screenshot which would suggest that this is the case.
Personally I would say that particular map would benefit more from having fleets and shipping entirely removed as it's basically a single land mass with some outlying islands (which can be connected with land bridges). In general MTW plays much better without it.
Very nice looking map and mod.

Hyborian continent has 20 navigable sea regions; there is no difference between
deep and coastal waters and the only land bridge is that crossing the Vilayet Sea.
Each culture is given 2 kinds of ship:
Galley and War Galley for Barbarians,
Junk and War Junk for Eastern (pagan) factions

This Mod is a lot of fun. Looks really different - not just a renaming of units and buildings but a huge amount of new stuff. I've only tried a few factions so far, but nicely challenging and no constraints of "but that wouldn't really have happened in history". Excellent work OmarPacha. I will give more detailed feedback and ideas when I've played a bit more :2thumbsup:

Looking at the file, this entry occurs alongside the unit HindiWarriors
There is one other entry in this column against SuntaiSwords
I deleted those references but am now hitting other unrecognised references in the files. I've no idea how many more there might be, and I don't want to start deleting loads of things without knowing what else might be affected or needs doing.
I was thrown by that unit HindiWarriors in this mod, but all I did was run the exe file over a fresh install of MTW/VI.
I downloaded the file in the top post.
Others seem to have got this to work so maybe I'm missing something fundamental but I'm afraid I can't see ehat it is.

I got the same problem at first. Read the top post and move the stuff from the italian language-folder to the English folder and you should be able to run the smoothly. I just tried it out and have spent some 30 years building up the Cimmerian lands. It´s sort of a cartoon-fantasty-feel-mod.

Interesting that that fixed the problem for you, because it's the first thing I did after installation. All the files in Loc/Italian are in Loc/Eng. Do they need to go somewhere else?
Doing a full re-install, maybe something didn't copy properly.
EDIT 2: Done a re-install, re-ran the exe file, everything seems to be in the right place, copied the files from the Italian directory to the English one and double checked to make sure they had copied properly. Result: back to the original error message.
Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Ok! That was the one thing to do. The other, which probably is causing the trouble then, can be found in the release note that comes with the mod.
"The starting position file of the Viking campaign (VIKING.TXT)located in the
C:\Program files\Total war\Medieval - Total War\Campmap\Startpos
folder should be deleted in order to avoid a crash to desktop while loading."

This looks like the same 'unitprod' file is invoked by two different campaign startpos files (the stop occurs because of the region label not because of the unit name), and should not happen.
The Hyboria TW Unit production file has the same name of viking campaign, being completely different, so we can't have at the same time the land regions (and units, in the MakeUnit::: section) as listed in the VIKING.TXT -and- the land regions of Hyborian Age startpos file.
I'll check this problem but in the meanwhile I must agree with Faremisch, you should do another trial -after- the elimination of the Viking campaign.

I had the same problem but removing the Viking starpos file I now can play your mod. Well, I also had to replace the button_ipnext and button_ipprev files to play the campaign. You could include new buttons in future releases to avoid the campaign CTDs with some graphic cards.
I've played forty turns with the Cimmerians without problems and I am impressed with your work: awesome graphics (map, units, buildings, portraits... all!), great music and excellent atmosphere.

Thank You, Belisario. I'm going to release the second step of Beta version close to Xmas and I'll add the two buttons according to your suggestion. There is a good amount of work ready to be added, above all buildings and units, and I want to push them in ASAP.
All new features should help to get the gameplay into full action after a dozen turns without taking off the pleasure to develop buildings and achieve the most refined and powerful units :rockstar: on the long run.

Just tried out Hyborean Age; it's very good, especially considering that it is a first release. The feeling of the "Conan mithology" is very well done. Love the new buildings, portraits, units, unit cards and of course the music. For my part, i'm eagerly awaiting a new patch.
Some suggestions, for consideration:
- update the text for the religions (you know, when right-clicking a province, it still appears
"catholic", "jewish" and so on - i saw that in the diplomatic view that's already done - like the "Y", a Crom-believer/worshipper faction)
- if you're adding more buildings and units, super! And if it's possible to add some new building cards, the better :beam:
- i know you said you wouldn't, but the faction shields would really be a nice touch... :-)
- and another thing, but this one it's easily done by each one of us, according to our own tastes, so it's really only a thought: include at least one Conan theme for the battles (like the "Battle of mounds", from the "Barbarian" soundtrack, or the main theme from "Conan the Destroyer").
And a couple more for the campaign map: put the full "Atlantean Sword" theme, it's missing a little bit in the end, same thing for the "Riddle of Steel" (well, this one is understandable, if you'll add the 2nd part, "Riders of Doom", as a battle music), and add for example "Theology/Civilization" (well-known theme from the "Barbarian" movie), or "The search", or "Approach to Shadizaar" from the "Destroyer" movie (the theme for Tulsa Doom's mountain in "Barbarian"). Even the "Recovery" that you have for the frontend fits well in the campaign (masterpiece of soundtrack). But like i said the music is very easily moddable by each one of us according to our personal tastes.

Yes I must change some text about the religion description and some other strings related to buildings, next package will provide these adjustments.
About shields, I simply should like that someone else of us, and I know there are many around here who can realize shields much better than me, support this mod.
Music : Full themes are not allowed, we're talking about tracks protected by copyright (Conan The Barbarian: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Basil Poledouris) and all I can provide is the downloadable 1-2 minutes free sample.
On the other hand, I agree completely to a full customization :guitarist: of musics of the mod.

Hi; sorry for "re-viving" this thread, but i just would like to know if OmarPacha is still around and if there's still a second step for Hyborian Age in the making, like it was talked about during the last autumn. It would be really neat to play with some kind of expansion on this already awesome mod, now that holidays are fast marching upon us :)
Yes OmarPacha is still around.
BTW, he has commissioned a new alternate campaign map texture for the mod which is in the planning stage, so watch future updates.
Also, I will take a look at shields and stuff if I have the time and the graphic format don't require too much fiddling around.

There are not large changes but a better painted map (in the SW region) some text adjustments and 2 new units: Militia and Hyrkanian Knights.
I've tested the gameplay with the militiamen, a base unit with low attack and defense rating but large in number, and I can say it's greatly improved.
Now working on the princess piece.
All material is ready, must only find a 5-6 hours to pack it and release. I've been waiting for Durango new map but in the meanwhile, new version of the original will work fine.

Omar, looks good, went through your snapshots and everything, I'm impressed. I'm new here and I didn't know such in-depth mods were possible. Maybe I can look at what you did, when it's available, and figure out how to fix mine. (I have my problems/questions posted in another thread, and if you have a few minutes, I'd appreciate you taking a look)? But really, I thought I was being pretty slick with my stuff, but I'm a neophyte!

I downloaded this gem some years ago and somehow got it to work. I have the files, but can't seem to repeat the earlier magic. I'll see if I can set up a little package and maybe someone else can figure it out.
