Hey!

I complained a while ago about taking silly amounts of casualties while chasing routers. I thought this was because of fences and the like but I do not think that is the case anymore.

What I've experienced lately is that if you run your cavalry into the routing unit and then single click to attack, so that your cav becomes "walking in melee", they do not take casualties almost at all while killing the routers. I'm not sure, but I'd guess it is the charge that kills them. Perhaps due to some of the routers stopping to face the chasing cav.

Cheers

The ammount of casualties also seems to depend on how experienced the cavalry unit is. A unit with a lot of experience will rarely take a casualty.
Elite cavalry, like Life Guards for example, don't take casualties at all (at least, not during the 50+ years I've been extensively using them in my campaign).

Size of the routing unit (men left in it) and the size of your pursuing unit may play a part as well I'm thinking. As far as how many casualties goes anyway. I've noticed a smaller pursuing unit going after a larger routed unit experiences more casualties than a larger pursuing unit going after a smaller routed unit. Which makes logical sense.

For me the other way around. The larger the unit I send after routers, the more casualties they take.

And sometimes a random man in the unit just falls over and dies, like one who is a bit separated from the main, or one who was stuck near a tree or those who lag behind at a fence. Some of the time, they also die when impacting on the charge against a routing unit.

I noticed a much higher rate of cavalry casualties pursuing routers in RTI Cp I-III compared to RTI 4 or Grand Campaigns.

Same here, just made the mistake of sending 585 cavalrymen to run down 31 fleeing Swedes (I know, sledgehammer, walnut etc) and lost 284 of them. Absurd!

Yeah, on that note, sending more than 1 cavalry unit after a routing unit results in a lot of dead horses.
