Austria vh/n 1730 , beating up the Mughals, they spring a surprise attack on Hyderabad, the autoresolve meter looks bad so theres nothing but to fight this one , 2 units of company line infantry + 2 flintlocks versus, mughlals with 4 Islamic swords, 2 iber cannons and command group of camel nomads.
They pound away at he walls for the whole 60 minutes, destroying several sections. Unfortunately for them their artillery is positioned near their troops, and their camel nomads and general get mostly killed and rout. several of the islamic swords also mauled by their own guns.
At 60 minutes, no troops lost and a most unheroic defense.
I think something ought to be done about friendly fire from cannons. Today i set up for a battle like so:
Line Inf - Cannons - Line Inf - Cannons - Line Inf
The enemy was facing exactly opposite, quite a fair distance away from me. I forgot to unlimber my cannons before i ended the deployment phase, so as the battle started i immediately clicked unlimber, which they did, but i also turned off fire at will, because i had specific orders for them.
At this point the cannon unit i have highlighted in bold turned its gun to the right, facing the entire length of my line, the barrel aimed perfectly. Then, it fired a ball. Took out the ENTIRE back row of the line infantry unit, 40 men out of 120 dead, took out a fraction of the other cannon unit, and half of the back row of the line infantry on the end. The worst thing is, there was nothing whatsoever in the direction the gun fired except empty land. I unlimbered, the enemy was dead ahead, the cannon turned to the right and shot through its own line in a perfect straight line.
If CA can't stop the AI from deploying its soldiers in front of its own cannons and dropping like flies with each shot, or they can't make artillery behave itself and follow basic orders, then i say turn friendly fire off altogether for arty.

You have to click off fire-at-will and also click on the ground (any random spot in front of you) so that won't happen.

The darn auto resolve meter is also whacked!
A few days ago I had it show up equal or I was a little down when I was attacked by a Spanish stack…
Now I had several line infantry, cannon, cavalry and what not…just under half a stack. The enemy was one household cavalry which I quickly dispatched at long range with the cannon, and finished off with line troops…

Dayve, I feel your pain. Problem with the AI code seems to be that artillery must always discharge before it will stay still (and then of course happily reload without firing...) Unless you give it a target, it will fire randomly somewhere, usually to its left/right or right in front of it.
