I just recently conquered Messana and seeing it already has a type 4 government i decided to recruit a client ruler, i had 2 choices - A romani and a hellenic ruler, i decided on a hellenic ruler seeing the city is mostly influenced by Greek(i think) but after recruiting i got a romani client ruler? we? is this a bug? I tried again but still the same outcome:wall:

Also when before i captured it the army of Messana sallied-forth to attack me and when they were routing i couldnt attack them? again was this a bug?

Many many thanks!

You will always get a Roman character, it's just the bodyguard that changes. I believe this is due to RTW hardcodes and there is no way to change it. When an enemy routes back into the city there is a bug where you can't attack them sometimes, I think it is when they are running toward the open entrance. Again, RTW bug, not EB's fault.

Yep, it's an RTW bug with sallying forces when they route. Not much that can be done about it.

Definitely get the Greek one. Their bodyguards are much better.

You can also roleplay that he actually is a Greek and just got given a Roman name when he became a "friend of Rome". Romans don't like those silly, non latin, names you see.

No, they can be both good or bad, it is relatively random. I had that famous 10 influence+management and 7 command guy who became a consul and a censor start out as a mercenary general.
