Hi all, I have a quick question about Thrace, or more specifically the two provinces north of Pella. They are both Makedonian homeland provinces, but I can't seem to recruit any decent units from them with a maxed MIC and the homeland gov type. I can recruit more units from a type three MIC in eastern Anatolia than I can in my so-called Homeland. Do I need to wait for vanilla marius before the Makedonians began including many Thracians in their armies?
Just a bit confused is all.
Thanks,

Those provinces in Thrace do not have any factional units really. You need a Regional MIC there. And the vanilla Marius Reforms are the March of Time in EB, and they replace certain nation's bodyguards as well as adding a pike phalanx unit for KH and your faction, Makedonia.
Those Eastern provinces have more factional troops available because they were long under Seleukid dominance, meaning Hellenic ways of warfare managed to take firm root there, thus providing you with recruits.
In any case, use the Recruitment Viewer to find out what you need about where to recruit certain units and what MIC (barracks building in EB) they require.

The EB team put those markers to tell you where the faction's historical homeland was, not just to tell you that there's 1337 troops there for you to recruit.
The Getai can recruit plenty of Thracian troops with native barracks. I use Serdike to pump out Rhomphaiaphoroi, Prodromoi, Traikioi Peltastai, and Taxeis Triballoi with a level IV native MIC.

That's funny, the EB team did say...
"In a province with a Makedonian Homeland government, you can recruit the absolute best troops the Makedones can field."
~EB in-depth description of the buildings system.
So despite being Makedonia's homeland, I am advised to NOT build the homeland government, because I can't recruit the available units? I'm still confused.

Recruitment viewer says I can recruit many more units than I can, hence my wondering if it was somehow linked to March of Time.

For instance, I cannot recruit Rhomphaiaphoroi in any province with homeland resource, despite type 1 gov and lvl 5 MIC. Recruitment viewer says I should be able to do so...

type 4 + lvl 5 regional MIC...
Megas Alexandros used a lot of allies in his campaigns you know =]

Its the other way around, with Rhomphaiaphoroi. They are NOT Macedonian troops, they are allies. You need a lvl 4 REGIONAL barracks to recruit them, and hence either a type 3 or 4 govt (I'd highly recommend a type 3, as that allows the Gym building also, which gives +1 troop XP)...
Macedonia is quite unusual, in that even though you can build LVL 1 Govts in "Thrace" (i.e. north and East of Pella) you can't recruit any of your faction troops there....
EB isn't always very logical, or user friendly, however it's worth all its idosyncracies overall, as its the best RTW mod out there...
Remember, the recruitment viewer and the forum are your friends :)
EDIT To make things crystal clear, on the recruitment viewer there is a tab to switch between REGIONAL and NATIVE barracks..
NATIVE = Your factions core troops (in general)
REGIONAL = Local troops specific to that area (again in general)

Homelands normally contain the best troops for a faction, but not always. You'll just have to roleplay the reasons for your governments in those regions. This is the case of a few of the Makedonian provinces. There used to be elite Agema troops available in Thraikia but I do believe they have been removed. If you are only establishing governments for recruitment options, then it would be best to go for something like a Type3 government in those northern regions.

The other thing you could do is build up the regional baracks (availeable with goverment types 3 or 4) and simply build a tye 1 goverment over it - it will allow you to train regional forces if you leave the original baracks intact.
Althoug many consider this cheating, so use it just for 1 settlement there or not if you don't want to go ahistorical.

Yea, that was kinda my thought as well. Thanks everyone for all the help. I still love this freaking game, and while I just made my Guild profile, I've lurked these forums for years now. Looking forward to EUII.
Best to everyone,

All true, also, Thracian troops used to be factional. Personally, I preffered that, but it's not my area.

You could alwas mod the EDB file and make lvl2 governments available even with allied provinces. Sort of like implementing our own reforms.
