And for once Europe hasn't been left out! This marks the first good PS1 game on the European version of PSN - I feel faint! :thinks of all the good games available on Japanese and US versions of the service which aren't on the European one: No, actually I feel sick.

Ahem. Anyway. It's a touch under 1.4GB, disc swapping has an in-built solution so there's no issues, and it's completely faithful to the original release for your territory. That means the European version gets the thick black borders and 17% slowdown of a shoddy PAL conversion. Er, ahem. The download and set up process was all very smooth and easy to use. It's possible to set up the game on both your PS3 and PSP and transfer a save file between them, so you can play on a big screen at home and on your PSP while out. Why you'd want to do that I don't know; PS1 games look dreadful on a modern TV, whereas the PSP makes them look surprisingly nice. The hand drawn backgrounds look great, the low polygon characters less so.

Such a nostalgic experience, playing it again today. So many memories. I've played better JRPGs, and the game always had some flaws, and yet it has something that makes it special.

Heresy.

Heresy.
Dragon Quest VIII is my favourite. It's a thoroughly delightful game in every sense of the word.
