Hello everyone. Welcome to my new AAR. This AAR will be very unique. As you can see from the title it is based on a new and secret people...the LIGURIANS. Little is known about these mysterious people and I am here to give a new Ahistorical history that showcases these people in the world, starting from their driving from the Po valley, to their service as a roman legion, their rebelion from the romans, their new city state kingdom of genoa and milan, and to their service in the Austrian army. This a new and unique idea and I am sure, no one has thought of this. So enjoy and have fun.

Hello. For my AAR I have made a faction symbol for the ligurians. While it is not historical, it has meaning. I chose the four crescents for a good reason. I chose four due to the fact that four major ligurian tribes are mentioned through out history, and the crescents were chosen due their importence to celtic people. Also, this symbol appears on the shields of the ligurian units. I have made a banner for this AAR that showcases this symbol. You are free to use it.

<<<<<[Casticos]>>>>>>
The village was stirring. Light had yet to reach the horizon and yet people were rising. A few dogs barked as people stepped from their doorways. A lone sheep baa’d. The town was small, but it would be substantial in its chosen role. It had been selected by the elders, to be the starting point of the new tribal home. About 40 small huts populated the fifteen acre lot. Three large houses formed the triad around the town center as they towered over the huts. A low fence also surrounded each hut and was the only separation from the inhabitants and the wild.

Casticos looked down on the village with disdain. It’s not worth it, he thought. Judging from the size and the number of huts, the town had an estimated population of four hundred to four hundred and fifty. If this town had a militia, they could put up a stiff fight against the Boii warband. Plus the settlement was small. There was no way it could support the large number of displaced settlers following the Boii.

Casticos shuffled on his knees to get a better look. More people were moving. A shop keeper was dragging his cart out from behind his shed. A man, accompanied by two young men and a child, left out of the east end of the town, heading towards a wheat field on the side of the hill. Everyone seemed to be getting an early start to the day.

Casticos had begun to back up when he heard a horn trumpet. Casticos dropped to his stomach and watched. A yell accompanied by a chorus of grunts followed. A group of about forty men ran from one of the large buildings and started to run around the town square. The men where whooping in unison and stomping their feet on every other step. After approximately three minutes of that, they turned and marched out the north side of the village and headed down the path towards the forest.

A flash of horror jumped down his spine. The militia was heading towards the Boii camp. Casticos slowly backed his way back down the hill and dashed back towards the camp.

<<<<<<<<[Arnthur]>>>>>>>>

The chirping of the birds awoke Arnthur with a start. They where such beautiful birds that he laid in bed for a few minutes before he realized his brothers were stirring. Arnthur pushed the blanket from his body and stepped into his sandals. He blindly reached for his tunic and pulled it over his head.

As he groped for the door in the early light, the doorway flipped open and his father burst in. He embraced his son in what could only be called a bear hug. He backed away and tousled his hair.

“Well son, seven winters ago, you were a wee one” Thresu grinned to his son. He gave him another hug and smiled again. “Now, just because it is your birthday, does not mean you can slack off. We are going to go up to the fields today, and you are going to help us cut the wheat.”

“Yay!!! Thank you Papa” Arnthur jumped up and down. Thresu grabbed Arnthur’s hand as they walked into the great room. Arnthur’s two brothers were already waiting when they walked in. They picked up the scythes and stepped into the morning air.

Birds were singing their songs and the wilderness was making its music. People were waking up. Rasce the merchant was setting up his shop and yelling at his wife. Always bickering those two. The daily horn bellowed and the telltale roars signaled the beginning of the morning training of the militia. More yells and roars implied that the militia was not waking up fast enough for Verix.

Arnthur’s father took the main road and left the village to the east. The wheat field on the hillside was like a golden patch on the quilt-work of the earth. The sight always made him gasp. Just as he did so, the sun rose over the hill and blinded him. As he looked away, towards the hill, he caught sight of movement in the bushes on the northwest hill. Probably a deer, he thought.

>>>>>>>[Venthi]<<<<<<<

The horn woke him as usual. Always that stupid horn. It always seemed to blare on such inopportune moments, especially when he was dreaming. For once in his life, Venthi wanted to sleep in. Just to feel what it felt like to feel rested. Today was not that day.

The horn blared again and again, this time closer. Finally it blared right in his ear and caused him to jump from his bed. His eyes opened only to have them closed in anguish when he was gifted with a vicious kick to the gut. He looked up at the grizzled soldier and grinned. He received a bloody mouth in exchange.

“Don’t you look at me like that, you slave!!!!” Verix roared. “Stand up!!!” Venthi stood sleepily. “You do this again and I’ll have you executed!!!”

“Yes Sir!!” replied Venthi who was not the least bit amused. He scratched his rear before returning to attention. The men all stood in an orderly line. The bunks surrounded them on either side. Wool blankets lay thrown everywhere. The only sound was the slight drip of the well.

“MOVE OUT!!!” Yelled Verix, as he sounded the horn again.
“HOO WAH!!” replied the unit. They formed an orderly line as they jogged out of the barracks. On the way out each man picked up his spear from the collection bucket next to the door, and slung on their shields from the wall outside the building. They did approximately four or five laps around the town center before jogging out to the north entrance of town.

<<<<<<<[Casticos]>>>>>>>

The Ligurians were getting closer. Their foot falls were getting more powerful. Casticos and the other twenty Boii were hiding in the forest. Each warrior was equipped with his finely honed sword and a large thureos shield. A small leather cuirass and a helm finished off the protective clothing. Another twenty waited on the other side of the clearing. They were the scum of the army, each being equipped for a light fight. No armor and a small spear. The ambush would be perfect.

The ligurians had slowed their pace and were looking around suspiciously. Casticos took a step back further into the darkness of the wood. Casticos marked his man. He would go for the one with the armor and the red hair. A Celt no doubt. He would most likely be the only warrior worth fighting.

Suddenly, the Celt bellowed something in their foul tongue. Then the men formed a circular formation. Spears pointed out and shields covering from shoulder to thigh. Casticos realized they had been discovered. He smashed his sword into his own shield and ordered the charge. They threw themselves into the ligurian formation. Shield and bone smashed into each other.

The first ligurian was hacked down by Dumnon. The wound started from the left shoulder down to his sternum. The boy fell backwards on the soldier behind him and caused the entire formation to falter. Man after man fell. The morale of the ligurians was begging to waver.

Finally Casticos found the Celtic officer. Dumnon reached him first. The brave warrior charged Dumnon and gutted him. Dumnon fell on his knees and was quickly decapitated. The move was so smooth that it could be compared to slicing through warm butter. Casticos, seeing his friend killed, jumped on the red haired warrior. The man savagely kicked Casticos in the groin and forced him off of him. Casticos rolled away and glared up at the Celt.

The officer towered over Casticos. Just as his sword reached where Casticos’ head should have been, he rolled out of the way. The Celt was stunned. Casticos jumped from the ground and smashed his sword into the skull of the soldier. As the skull caved in, blood sprayed from the mouth and nose of the officer.

>>>>>>>[Venthi]<<<<<<<

Venthi was bored. Running every day was really beginning to get on his nerves. He failed to see as to why running is helpful for war. Killing was all one needed, in his opinion. Running was a waste of energy and sweat. He would rather walk to the training area.

He glanced over at the woods and gasped. A glint of light caught his attention. He reached forward and tapped six times on his comrade’s shoulder; the typical sign for an ambush. The next shoulder was tapped until it reached Verix. The officer reached into his flaming hair and whistled the call of the quail.

The unit slowed its pace began to walk. Venthi fingered his spear and grasped it strongly. Suddenly war seemed scary. War was not something that the ligurians were used to. Venthi began to shiver.

Suddenly, Verix gave the hand signal to stop,

“Hedgehog Formation!” Verix bellowed, over the march.

Venthi stopped walking and joined his brethren in making the formation. He took his rehearsed place in the formation. He looked into the woods and strained his eyes to see how many they would be facing.

Venthi jumped when a loud bang cracked through the air. A roar of anger echoed the bang as soldiers jumped form the woods and charged the ligurians. A large barbarian crashed into the line and cleaved Thefarie in two. Blood gushed onto the crazed warrior and seemed to invigorate him. As Thefarie fell, the row he occupied fell. The Gaul jumped on the next warrior and ripped his stomach open.

Venthi was awakened from his astonishment when a sword glanced his shield. Venthi’s reaction was fast; he whipped his spear from its down position and sliced into the throat of a charging enemy, throwing him back into the dust in a bloody puddle. Just as Venthi turned, another sword swiped past his head and nicked his ear. The ligur reached forward and tore his fist into the face of the Gaul. Enraged by his attack, the barbarian leaped at Venthi and attempted to stab him in the gut. Venthi sidestepped the attack and jumped behind the attacker. Before his adversary had a chance to regain his footing, Venthi viciously kicked him on the back and sent his muscular body sprawling in the dirt. Venthi stabbed him in the back before he could regain his composure.

Just then, Venthi looked up from his foe and looked for the Suebi, Verix. Just then a roar thundered over the din. Venthi looked forward towards the sound’s maker and saw Verix’s head implode in a bloody mess. Venthi gaped at the sight of his leader’s demise. He never thought that such a strong man as Verix could be killed.

Suddenly someone yelled retreat. The Ligurians took flight and began a mad dash towards the village. In the confusion that ensued, a few men were trampled underneath their comrades’ feet. Venthi ran with all his might.

As he ran he was struck by something. A spear dug itself into his leg. As it dug itself into his leg, it popped his knee cap out of joint and dislocated his knee. He smashed face first into the dirt track, some three hundred feet from the town. He painfully rolled him self over and looked up towards the sun. Venthi struggled to reach for his spear as he realized that a Gaul was running towards him.

<<<<<<<[Casticos]>>>>>>>

The Ligurians had broken. Someone had screamed something and the wave of panic spread. They dashed form the wood and began their decent down the hill back towards the village.

“CHARGE!!!” Roared Casticos as he thundered down the hill. The other Boii rallied to his voice and stampeded after the ligurians.

Anyone who did not want to fight was left with the wounded. The wounded were left to be retrieved by the shamans of the tribe. Dead were of no use to the Boii. Of course, not many were dead. Few were dangerously wounded. They were in the hands of the gods.

A few of the ligurians turned to fight, but were hacked down by the wave of barbarians. One older warrior turned and killed two Boii before being overcome. The others were not so skilled. Most died.

By now, screams could be heard from the village. A few horses could be seen dashing from the town into the forest to the south of the village. A few villagers seemed to be gathering to fight back. Such a futile effort.

Casticos marked a new target. He chose a younger one running shortly in front of him. Casticos reached down and pulled appear from the body of a dead ligurian and threw it. The spear drove itself into the back of the knee joint of his target. This brought him to the ground. Blood spattered the grass around his body and caused him to slip. Casticos pressed onward and drove his sword into the boy as he rolled over.

>>>>>>[Arnthur]<<<<<<

Screams shattered the crisp morning air. Arnthur looked up from the field and looked towards the source. He saw people charging down the hillside and people falling. He turned and looked for his father and brothers. They too, were staring at the hill. But they looked different from Arnthur. While Arnthur had a look of confusion, they had something quite different…fear

“Father! What is going on?” Arnthur pleaded with his father. Thresu ran forward and grabbed Arnthur in his arms. Arnthur screamed. “Father, what is happening!!!??”

Thresu ran towards his horse. He tossed Arnthur on top of it and called for his sons.

“They are coming, look” He said as he pointed down the hill towards a group of barbarians coming up the hill towards the field. He told Arnthur’s brothers to get their horses fast.

“You must ride. Do not stop until you reach Patavium. Understand? Do not stop. You life depends upon it!” He ordered his children. Arnthur pleaded with father.

“Nooo. I don’t want to go. Papa. Please. Don’t go. I don’t want to leave you!”

“No son. Go!!” He stated as he smacked the horse and made it gallop. Arnthur’s brothers followed and took hold of the reins of Arnthur’s horse.

Arnthur looked back at his father. He was walking calmly towards the people coming up the hill. He picked up the rusty old scythe and stepped out of the field. The other men broke into a run and charged Thresu. He raised the scythe and brought it down, hard, on the first one. Unfortunately, he missed the second. He fell with four swords stabbed into his chest.

Arnthur began to cry…

How'd you manage to get that map filled in so nicely?

Good start, by the way.

I made a new layer in photoshop and colored over those regions in red, and then raised the opacity to make it semi clear. Oh and to answer your previous question, I won't be playing any faction yet. The begining is mostly just story with custom battles. After the romans conquer the ligurians, I will start playing as a faction.

Good try but no. Think more historicly, and the errors that people made back then.

Hint: Spain

And remember the Ambrones part.

When Mandubracious was twenty-four, he was faced with a problem. A huge problem…one that would shape the fate of the world. A young age for such an undertaking, yet he saw it through towards the bitter end. His reign as king was to be measured from this very moment. The future of his people was to be decided from his very stratagem…He is Mandubracious the first…the first of his line…the first of his people…The first great king of Liguria.

The sky was setting in the west when the news came…

https://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q46/Ghaust813/Liguriae/liguriancouncil.jpg

Sir, stated the councilman, we can’t sit idle while our allies are being attacked. The Etruscans are begging for our support. They say they not be able to hold onto the provinces without us. They are a major asset to our strength, and the rebellion of the Romani dogs is threatening our strength by thus threatening the Etruscans. We must act!! The council was getting agitated. Less and less their words were affecting the young king, Mandubracious.

My lord, Stood the eldest and wisest of the council, You are in the wrong. We can’t hope to survive without the Etruscans support, The king rolled his eyes with exaggeration. In response, the old man jabbed his finger at the king, Your attitude of late is beginning to irritate the council. While you are king you still have to answer to us! You are nothing without the council! Nothing!

DON’T you dare talk about me being nothing!! Mandubracious jumped down from his throne with anger, You old fool!! Don’t you realize that the military answers to me!! He pointed his finger back towards himself. I could have you killed at a whim. The ONLY thing that keeps you here is your value to the people and the occasional wisdom that you impart.

The council was taken aback by the kings’ outburst. Many of the old men clutched their robes in fear. Not a sound could be heard in the great hall, save the deep breathing of Mandubracious. He strode abruptly back towards his throne in anger. He sat down with a loud huff. His hand reached for the folds of his forehead. While massaging them, he thought.

No, He spoke finally; We will not march for the Etruscans. If they are such a great nation, why do they need our help? Their territory more than triples our own, yet they can’t keep their inhabitants under control. If thus is the case, they are a weak people, and thus are not worth existing. Let the Romani gobble them up. We’ll put them in their place when we need to. Send word to the Etruscans that we are unable to send reinforcements.

The council was still. The king went back to massaging his forehead. Children were playing outside and birds played their songs, yet the great room did not echo with sound. The stone walls were silent.

The king looked up, Why are you still here!? Go, Go, get out. The council began to rise slowly, NOW!!! Go, I want you out of my sight before I have you all killed! The old men dashed out of the magnificent wooden door that was the entrance to the great hall. The royal guard closed the door behind the last councilman and resumed their stoned faced position.

The royal guard was some of the most richly adorned group of soldiers in the Ambrones’ army. They typically wore a royal blue tunic that was made with most top quality linothrax and was practically armor in itself. In addition they wore a very tough padded leather breastplate that had iron studs imbedded into the pads for added strength .A shirt of mail was worn under this. A large belt spreads across their waste with which their Kopi’s scabbard hung and was also made with tough bulls hide. Bronze greaves were standard and were often richly adorned with the personal exploits of the wearer. In addition to their armor they wore a small bronze skull cap that had a bronze face mask attached by a hinge. The face mask was mostly for a fear factor, but was very sacred amongst the soldiers. Often handmade, it was their most prized possessions. A Light wooden buckler finished of the equipment. The shield was more often than not hand painted with and intricate battle scene and served to tell tales of the individual’s bravery. A small brass knob was fixated on the center that was itself engraved too. It was fitted with a spike.

Mandubracious stood up. He was getting severely annoyed with council of late. Time for some new elections, he thought sinisterly. The wood of the stone of the hall began to reverberate with the closing of the door. Guards, fetch me my diplomat, Morbhe, The king ordered his men. Yes, My lord, was their semi autonomous reply

The king was about to sit down when one of the other guards opened the door and stepped in. My lord, we have three boys that wish to speak to you. He stated soldierly. He seemed ill at easw. The man kept shifting his weight as if he was nervous. He shuffled his feet as he walked in. Should I let them in?

Well my old friend Meriadoc, Is it important? Mandubracious asked quizzically. He furrowed his brow as he waited for his warrior’s response. Well, umm, I think. You might…Well, Stammered the kings friend. I will make this easy on you my good friend…Do you think it is? The king responded coolly.

The guardsman flushed of all color and looked at his king straight in the face.

Yes sir I do…

Well, let them in, Mandubracious stated suspiciously. Yes, My lord, Meriadoc replied as he stepped nervously out of the large ornate doorway and went to retrieve the three boys. It shuddered ominously as he left. The shuffling of his feet lingered in the air for a moment. Mandubracious was beginning to worry. Such an experienced warrior, like Meriadoc, should not have acted so fearfully. It just was not like him to act so scared. This was definitely of the utmost importance.

The king fingered the gold ornate trim on his royal crimson tunic. The nervousness of the situation was beginning to get to him. He reached his shaking hand into his pocket and pulled out his kerchief. Wiping the sweat from his brow, he chuckled at himself. No need to get scared, he muttered to himself. Mandubracious stood weakly, and began to pace. What can this possible be, he mused quietly. The pacing continued for about seven minutes before Meriadoc returned with the boys.

Here are the children, My liege, Meriadoc bowed graciously. Be aware, as they are exhausted and scared, The guard added. Thank you, You have my leave. Take the other guards with you, He added, Come, he said as he motioned for the boys. They stepped closer submissively, and with their heads down. Now, now. No need to be shy, Sighed the king. The kids looked up slowly and gave the king a good overview.

The three boys varied in height. The tallest was approximately five foot ten inches while the shortest was four feet four inches. The two taller ones were almost men, for their height and build. Large muscles showed that they worked hard on a farm, or as blacksmiths maybe. The tallest boy wore a dark brown tunic fixed with buttons, and light gray trousers that were obviously too small. He had a light mustache and brown. The nest tallest was attired in an off-white shirt with the sleeves rolled up too his elbows. This boy had a blond mop of hair on his head. He wore brown pants that were cut off ant the shins. The smallest, no more than ten winters, was wearing a deep blue coat and black trousers that were way too big for him. His red hair offset the normality of the others. They all appeared as if they had been crying.

Come, Now don’t be scared, Said Mandubracious impatiently. The boys stepped closer to the throne and bowed. Well, what is it you children need to tell me? The king questioned. The eldest boy glanced at his brothers and stepped forward.

Some one attacked us, The boy said shakily. He began to quiver. Well, I’ll have him executed, who was it? The king said impatiently. Umm, No…Sir. I mean, an army…from the north attacked our village. There were a lot of them. The came with fire and weapons, and they burned our village towards the ground. They killed our father in the process. We barely escaped. Others seemed to have run, but they got caught by more of the barbarians…There were a lot of them… The eldest elaborated. The youngest had begun to cry and his brother was comforting him.

The king ran his fingers through his limed hair and sighed. This is bad, very, very bad. The king mused aloud. Alright, You boys have been very brave. I will ensure you get taken care for now. You’ll be safe here. No army of barbarians will get to you here. Mandubracious promised. What are your names? He asked as he stood and took the boys by the arms. I’m Laris, My younger is Arte, and the boy is Arnthur. He is our half brother, but we love him just as much. The eldest replied, pointing to each brother individually. Alright then, Why don’t you three go with Meriadoc and got get something to eat? You all look hungry. The king offered as they walked out of the main door to meet the guard.

Thank you, replied the boys as they left with the guard. As they left, he called aside another guard. Lugotorix, I need you to go to the town center and call for all able men to join the military. We will need all the men we can get for this next war. Also, I want our spies to go and find what sort of army we will be fighting. You got that? The guard responded quickly, Yes, My lord.

Mandubracious left the coolness of the great hall and stepped into the summer heat. He took a moment to look at the beauty of his place. It may be the last time he can…

https://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q46/Ghaust813/Liguriae/Ligurianbannerchapter3copy.jpg

Six Days Later

Mandubracious rubbed his throbbing temples. The stress was beginning to get to him. He whipped his forehead with his old kerchief and sighed. His spies had yet to return with any reports. This meant only one of two things. Either they were dead, or they got captured. Patrols were being sent out as well. No sign of the barbarians had been spotted yet. The Ambrones were on standby, ready to fight, just in event that the enemy decided to rear their ugly faces.

The Ambronian king stood. He ran his finger over the ornate carvings of his throne charge, tracing every delicate curve of the wood. His eyes followed every motion. When his hand reached the corner of his seat, he moved his fingers up onto the family tapestry that hung on the wall. Him, and this tapestry was all that remained of his family’s legacy. He must live up to that standard or die trying.

The king stepped down from the pedestal and walked towards his chambers. As he pushed the door open, a horn bellowed from the walls of town. Seven blasts, indicating a friend, eased his tension a bit. The king walked back towards the main door and stepped into the blazing sun. The runner was just coming up as the king stepped out. Who has arrived? Mandubracious questioned, It appears that reinforcements from Bononia have arrived. They say they were attacked; their captain is on his way to have an audience and to tell you what happened, The runner huffed tiredly.

Good, You may leave, Mandubracious told the runner as he turned on his heel and left. He stepped slowly back down the main hall and sat down in his throne. He rubbed his head and coughed. With the Bononians attacked, this could only mean that Patavium is surrounded. This is very, very bad, thought the shaken king.

He had been waiting for about seven minutes when Meriadoc stepped in the chamber and announced the captain’s arrival. The man was Captain Arnza. He was a short and burly man. Obviously he was a bit of a brute. His muscles bulged yet his girth was large. His head was covered with a very light blond shock of hair that was pulled back under his helmet. His mustache was thin and barely could be called so. His beady eyes finished off the rather unimpressive figure of captain Arnza

The little man bent at the waist and bowed. It is an honor, my liege, He said rather exaggeratedly. The king waved his arm impatiently, My runner said you were attacked. What happened? Leave nothing out.

Captain Arnza stood dumbfounded by the bluntness of his king for a moment. Well? Mandubracious asked. Much apologies my lord, I shall begin. The captain said as he awoke from his shock. He stepped over towards one of the benches and began…

Well, My liege, my men were sent by the governer of Bononia, as you probably know, to assist you in you plight versus the invading horde. We had been marching with our guard down, not expecting to be fighting the invaders until we reached your city. We set up a fort, just south of the river, and prepared to bed down for the night when we heard a cluster of horns. One of our sentries sighted the closing in boii and alerted the camp. We then moved into position.

I position two infantry units at each likely breach point while my archers were positioned directly behind the gate guarders. My cavalry was placed behind them.

https://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q46/Ghaust813/Liguriae/CHP32.jpg

Then we waited. The men were scared, it could be heard in their nervous chatter. I had them silenced. It would only scare men who were not scared. After that, the only sound that could be heard was the noisy creaking of the enemy battering rams as they rolled towards the camps walls.

https://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q46/Ghaust813/Liguriae/CHP33.jpg

https://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q46/Ghaust813/Liguriae/CHP34.jpg

The wall and gate shuddered under the force of the rams. They would break very quickly. My men would be the main deciding factor in this struggle.

https://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q46/Ghaust813/Liguriae/CHP35.jpg

The walls fell suddenly and the bashed in unexpectatly. The enemy warriors flooded into the fort and the bloody fight had begun. My men surrounded the barbarians that tried to fight into my camp.

https://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q46/Ghaust813/Liguriae/CHP310.jpg

With the walls down, the fight ensued and blood bathed the earth. It dragged on for what seemed like hours until at one point the warriors at the wall breach faltered and ran. This left my men with the oppurtunity to sweep behind the men in the gate and surround them.

https://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q46/Ghaust813/Liguriae/CHP311.jpg

With that final charge, the enemy routed and fled. I let them run. I did not need to suffer any more losses from over zealous enemies. The next day, we left for Patavium and arrived today. I am sorry if this new causes you pain my lord, but I felt obligated to let you know.

The king stood after hearing the report. He walked over towards a window and sighed. Thank you, captain Arnza. Your men will be a valuble asset when we fight the Boii later. Bring you men into the city and have them get a place to stay. I will leave you in charge of your men, when we are attacked.

The Captain bowed again. Thank you again for the honor, I shall not fail you my lord. He spoke before he turned and left to retrieve his men.Mandubracious stared up at the clouds and spoke nervously to himself.

He stepped down from his pedestal and began to step towards his chambers to visit his wife. Just as he walked in the room, a horn bellowed four times...The Boii had come...

{Well, that is the update. I hope you all enjoy the actual combat. I did, it was a nice break from writing a story :laugh4:. Well, next update soon...Hopefully :inquisitive:)

Mead Hall? I never even looked for AARs in the Mead Hall. I only ever came to the EB subforum. I find that the best ancient AARs are in the EB section. :2thumbsup: No offence vanilla other-mod AARtists. :beam: It just seems that most RTW AARs use the EB mod.

Yah keep it here. I rarely venture far from the EB sub forums.

Why not just start a thread in the Mead Hall and post the link to this thread?

You could comment in it every week or so to notify people of updates and stuff; that way it would keep coming up every so often.

That's what I did with my AWS. Works OK, except people don't seem to comment on it like they do an AAR. :embarassed:

YAY NEW UPDATE TIME. I know it's short, but I have been having some problems lately. I hope to be a little more regular now.

https://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q46/Ghaust813/LigurianbannerCHAPTER2P2copy.png

The town was changing. Children were quite. No one was happy anymore. Everyone was just sitting around wasting away in there misery. Men groaned as they worked, children stayed inside, women didn’t speak; a stark contrast from a bustling city of two months prior.

The King needed to think of a way to relieve the city. Since the arrival of the Bononians allies, the city was attacked three times. Obviously probe attacks, they were beaten back easily. But that last one…It was different. They breached the walls, and flooded into the city. It was a miracle that the royal guard could hold them off. That’s was the real test. That was how they really measured the Ambrones force. The real attack was imminent. The people needed to flee. Judging by the strength of these attacks, there was no way that the town could be held.

Mandubracious was sleeping when Cadeyrn approached him with a plan. A good plan…A daring plan…

My lord, may I have an audience? Cadeyrn stated as he stepped into the map room. The king looked up from his studying and grinned, Ah, Cadeyrn, What is it? Please, sit. He gestured towards a chair. The warrior stepped around the chair and stood, I prefer to stand, My liege. The king eyed him cautiously. Well, what do you need? The guardsman snapped to attention, I believe I have a plan sir!

Mandubracious lounged back in his chair. Well, what is it boy? Cadeyrn leaned forward and began to point at the map of the City and its surrounding countryside. The king leaned forward to observe. You see sir; we have gates on all four sides of the wall. If the army is orientated at us coming from the north, our south is not being attacked. Thus said, we know that the city can not be held. I believe that we should retreat the populace to the south, across the river, while some men remain behind to fight for the town as a distraction. I believe with this, it will allow us to live to fight another day. Cadeyrn stood straight as he waited for the kings answer.

Mandubracious stood and paced. It was daring, It could work, but it was a gamble. Was it worth it? The king mused for a few minutes before he gave his answer.

Cadeyrn, you sure this will work?

Positive. Clear as ice. He said adamantly.

Good, I leave you in charge of organizing this plan. You have three hours to tell the town to gather at the south gate. Take three units of spearmen and two of swordsmen. I’ll send my wife with you. Come and get me when you have completed the task. He sat.

Yes sire. I shall not fail you. He replied as he saluted one last time before turning on his heel and leaving.

It's not hte best, but please tell me what you think

A bit hurried perhaps...

but it's a very interesting development... :sweatdrop:

Must find out what happens to the Liguriae... :2thumbsup:

Ooh also my friend you can get a long way with a few EB screenshots.

Set up some custom battles, get a few angles of whatever you're talking about in a chapter, and plug in the pics with the text.

:shame:...I afraid I have to put this on hold for a while, maybe even forever. I am going to be on vacation the next two weeks and then I have two weeks of band camp... I will try to write in my notebook, but I can't guarantee anything. Thus said, I am going to put this on hold until I have returned from my...awayness... Until then, I return Ariovistus's Balloon :balloon2: as I don't deserve it until I have begun some serious work with AAR. When I return, I will hopefully have this back up and running. Thank you for understanding.

I have returned. I'm sure none care for this anymore but it has been irking on me as of late to finish this and continiue the story that continues to "Plauge" my mind. I realize that I have been gone for an extensive amount of time and that it has probably annoyed some of you for my lack of attention to the site and I deeply apologize. As it is 6:30 in the morning I can't post more but once I get home from School I intend to post a longish post concerning my excessive abscense. And to follow that....A long overdue update worth far more then the others. As I have gotten better as a writer over the year I have greatly improved my quality of work so this update should actually hold merit as compared to that really sad last update. Alas I must leave for school now so I swear to return once I return around 3:30 to4:00 Farewell

Ok everyone. School is over so I can now explain the reasoning for my long abcense. First of all I am deeply sorry for those who I left here without any warning. Secondly upon my return I plan to continue and start anew the story that I fell so much for armed with much improved writting skills far better than a freshmen in Highschool. So without further ado I present to you my story.

Around summer last year, I went on a vacation trip. I had originally planned to write some notes and the like concerning the story while on vacation but while on vacation I found myself incessently distracted by everything. Every time I intended to start writing I'd see a cool thing goin on the side of the road. Idk but it really hurt my devotion to this. In addition during the time before I began to feel rather run-down concerning the story because as I read the stories I realized my writing skills were not where I wished they were. I realized how infantile and uneducated my writing sounded so I began to feel unworthy to be doing the AAR in the first place. But in all honesty I did intend to say that I was going to return soon whence I got home from vacation but a small road bump occured in my trip. While driving home, my dads trucks transmission blew and in order for me to make it home in time me, my mom, and my little brother took an airplane back to florida so that I could make it to band camp (I'm a band nerd yes) Upon arrival home I had a night to sleep before I went to band camp and then the following morning spent every day for two weeks at my highschool marching from 8 to 8. With band camps conclusion I had long since forgotton my responsibilities and thus began to focus my self into school mode. Having no time for video games also contributed to my non activeness. Had I been able to get on the computer and play EB then I may have refreshed my desire to write my AAR, sadly I was still feeling run down and not worth the quality of some well known AARs. Well i guess this concludes my excuse, I know it is a bad one but the only one I have. Now I shall began writing my next update and post it upon finishing it later tonight. I am conisidering restarting the story because it sounds rather childish. If you can provide your input it would be nice so that I can maybe start anew. Thanks Ahead

Actually, I've decided to start anew. I feel if I do that the AAR will flow better. It will still be Ligurian based but this time starting in the events of RTW that way it starts off with more screenshots right away. Expect it tonight or tommorrow
