View Full Version : RTI post patch 3
Anyone else noticed that the RTI parts 2 and 3 play much differently post patch 3?
In part 2 I recall roving bands of Huron pillaging the settlements of fort Niagra. After the patch when I played it again I didn't see the Huron at all, and I couldn't raise nearly as big of a force.
In part 3 minutemen are now pretty darn expensive, and a US having 3 territories can barely afford a full stack army.

hmmmm....patch 3 was.......at the end of may right? that means i haven't played RTI post-patch, and i'm damn happy i finished before from what you say.
in RTI chapter 2, i just built huge armies and blitzed, because i tried conventional way prior and i found it boring and hard.
in chapter 3, i found it extremely easy to maintain full stacks including howitzers, grenadiers, riflemen, and line infantry. i had no trouble playing a conventional campaign and steamrolling the brits with my armies (which must have been at least 10 times as large as theirs).
i certaily hope that they made it more difficult to create and upkeep an army for RTI 3, but minnutemen should be extremely inexpensive to upkeep, as they were'nt paid as far as I remember. that means all they need is clothing (which is more of a 1-time expense in the short term), food, equipment (which is also a one-time expense, if you don't count gunpowder), and housing (temporary or longer-term).

My experience is that one definitely cannot build a steamroller stack to start out chapter 3. My suspicions are somewhat supported by my prepatch chapter 2 game which I loaded which was promptly FAR in the red with 2 3/4 stacks and no navy to boot with 3 territories. I didn't recall it being a budget breaking situation prepatch.

i'll load my pre-patch chapter 3 game tonight and check if my income is what it should be. i know if it is anything less than 12,000(which is just a number i remember seeing in it; not sure if it was early or late) than it is certainly different.
of course, this does help realism; the american revolution was so poorly-funded, there are rumours that some men ate eachother. I'm sure this is completely untrue-especially considering that george washington is one of the supposed cannibals- but it does say something about how starving and under-supplied the american armies were.

I'd appreciate it. Let me know the results.

It's incredibly similar to english. The big trick is getting around Masculine, Feminine and Neuter nouns as all are treated differently. E.G. you have three ways of saying "the" depending on the noun being der, die, and das resepectively. This also impacts word endings among other things.
The big trick with any foreign language is to not seek to translate word for word into english, but rather focus on statements and thoughts.
Also in Part three the new "resistance to foreign occupation" resistances certainly don't help matters. A -12 hit to unrest for liberating a colony not only makes things difficult but doesn't make any sense.
I get the feeling the RTI campaign hasn't received any thought or testing in the patch process.

wow, major changes. just loaded it back up, and i now have only 5000 a turn. previously i made at least 12000 a turn.
but this is the same with all the campaigns; like in my marathas campaign, i could afford (with the only new territories as mysore and goa) to maintain 4 full stacks. post-patch, i could barely afford to upkep 1.

That's right it is, only the RTI campaign was built for 1.0 and introducing new players. Just like any other pre-patch save game your left with an almost untenable situation at start, but the AI fares far worse. If one can weather three turns of the AI throwing everything it has on the map at them they'll do fine as it's gravy after that.

i agree; it is more of a semi-tutorial than serious campaign up until chapter 3. still, it should be easier than the others.
also:
unfortunately, this is true with just about every single game with a.i. they send everything they have, then either: dont produce units OR continually crank out units, but send them out in 1 and 2-unit armies constantly. together, they could be a serious threat every few turns. however, they dont do this so..................
