Hello all,
I'm going to start a new AAR for the Ptolemies and I want to simulate a defection of some faction members to the Seleucids. :help: Is there any way I can change the characters factions via the console commands or is there some file that I can edit? Thanks.

Well I know there isn't a console command to flat out switch the family member to another faction. There are two things you CAN do though.
The first thing you can do is make a script with the console command "control" and use it to take over another faction. Then you can bribe the family members you want to defect over with the add_money cheat.
The other way is if you have BI.exe, you can set one of the other factions as a shadow faction...I am not sure if it's save game compatible though and if you do this you have to enable loyalty and whatnot.
If your shooting for a civil war I usually seperate the income of that city and either create a historical battle to fight it or just look at the stacks and give an estimate of ratio, and then autoresolve best 3 out of 5, with the loser disbanding casualties (basically the number disbanded relies on how close the "battle" was).
Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I'll try your control tip, it seems a lot easier than the other one.
I know MAA edited some files to create new factions, I guess I'll have to ask him how he did that.

Hmm... the control cheat didn't seem to work... ah well, I guess I'll have to simulate it a different way.
You could use a scripting command to kill then spawn the new character in the new faction:
like this:
console_command kill_character "Gaius Julius"
spawn_character Julii "Gaius Julius", general, command 0, influence 0, management 0, subterfuge 0, age 20, x 54, y 124
--------------------------------------------------- Below is the description for the spawn_character command----------------
Identifier: spawn_character
Parameters: faction, character as in character description in historical battle
Description: create an army at a particular location
Sample use: spawn_character Julii Foedus Chaerea, general, command 0, influence 0, management 0, subterfuge 0, age 20, x 54, y 124
Class: SPAWN_CHARACTER

Thats because it only works in a script, for example:
script
console_command control egypt
...
The genericscript is just a placeholder so you can make a script with the same name and just use the console command. Be warned that you control said faction after you press end turn, so the AI tends to screw with your units.

Thanks for all the help. I don't think I want to risk screwing up the campaign so I'll just fake it...
