I think it's caused by the sprite. Any solutions?

Do you have the EB fixes?

I remember installing the EB 1.2 fixes. Are they supposed to fix it?

They should have . Sprites are simple to detect and fix.

It is not that. My computer also crashes (well, EB) when I try to use the praetorian cav. I think there's something messy with their skins, animations, sprites or something that just kills my slow graphic card.

It makes me believe that it due to graphics since I can use the praetorinans on another laptop with a more powerful gpu.

You and me are not the only ones who have problems with them. Reports of CTDs and errors have been made on the praetorian cavalry over the time.

Well it's good to know that someone shares my problem. But I'm also assuming that there's no solid fix currently?

How I'd love to know what a sprite is

It is a brand of a refreshing drink.

Also it could be a shine sprite, if you are familiar with super mario sunshine...:clown:

It's this kind of carbonated sugar water that has a slight lime taste to it.

Nah, I'm just trolling. You know how when you zoom out on your units when the unit detail is not on highest, the 3d objects become 2d. These 2d substitutes are called sprites. This is most apparent on trees, where the large 2d objects are easily definable rather than the miniscule massed men. Sprites are used to reduce resource usage, since when you zoom all the way out, you'd be looking at a couple of thousand men. For low to average performance computers, rendering several thousand 3d objects may be difficult, needless to say a lot more difficult than when you're rendering only 80 men when you're zoomed in. Rendering 2d objects to replace the 3d objects would save a lot more resources and hence make the game run faster, i.e. higher frame rate and quicker command recognition.

Edit: Haha, Fluvius you sneaky bastard!

Yeah, they have an overhand spear AFAIK. Utterly useless... But historical. Not to mention, their model is a carbon-copy of the Osprey model (down to the scorpions on the shields), done by PROMETHEUS way back in 2004.

I don't use them, but I play online, and opposing Romans tend to like them sometimes.

Vanity. As Pericles said, one should be more afraid of their own mistakes than enemy plans. Praetorian cavalry is the worst unit a Roman can choose for MP. Hideously expensive and almost useless. Online, you fight to win. Thus, overhand cavalry is a handicap, especially when it comes at that cost. Such as the standard 15,000 denarii/mnai RTW/EB match.

I thought as much, but the enemy's vanity will be my frustration, as I don't reap the rewards of crushing them...

Yeah, there is one solution: just kill them. EB works much better without them.

I like the sound of dying praetorians.. they scream so well so i want to kill some more.... mmmggghhhh...
