View Full Version : KotF New game's name
So far it looks like we'll be playing as France, likely with lands to Conquer (although there are several more days to vote for those DLV fans  ). Anybody have any ideas about what to call the new game?
So far we have had:
WOTS: Will of the Senate
KOTR: King of the Romans
LOTR: Last of the Romans
Legacy of Clovis :p
Kingdom of France
Last of the Romans II: Revenge of the Gauls

Why not "Curse of the French Kings" COFK ?
In reference to "Les Rois Maudits" (The Cursed Kings) by French writer Maurice Druon which in itself refers to the curse thrown on the French Crown by Jacques de Molay (Master of the Knights of the Temple) when he was sacrificed in 1314.

Couldn't find any English reference... sorry
Or we might go with Daughter of the Romans as France at the time was often described as the daughter of the Church, hence Rome... (to go with the Roman theme, if only by such a tenuous association...)
And one question : if we create a mod for the game, would you like me to review the character name files to make them sound much more french... A lot of the names have wrong spellings and some are totally a-historical... Thoughts ?
And I'll be ready to play the French King (who else...)

I would ideally like a title that kind of sets the scene, so to speak, for the game to come. We had Will of the Senate, which was *the* initial PBM of this style, and ultimately reflected the final conflict which reaffirmed the Senate's supremacy over any Consular figure. Then we had King of the Romans, which spoke to the, in my opinion, main underlying conflict in that game: Executive vs. legislative. IMHO, LotR didn't really have that same title-theme connection.

How about:
Rise of the Capetians? Stealing it from Rhyfelwyr's popular IH with the same name. It could illustrate the gradual resurrection of royal authority in France, from the depths it stooped two after Charmlemagne's death?

what about something like Rise Of Our King? This period is kind of about the french king trying to gain back his power and prestige, and taking it away from all of the robber barons.
edit: Ignoramus beat me to it, and with a much better name.

I second that name. Although, perhaps I'm the only other person here who gets the reference since I had to read those books in high school.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Out of curiosity, what are some ahistorical French names?

I don't remember exactly but names likes Gassou (starting general IIRC) are not what you expect a member of the nobility (for who else would be a general) to be called...
Some of the first names are also spelled wrong... Could someone find the name file for me and upload it so that I can begin working on it
Thanks for helping out. It'll really add to the authenticity of the game.

Don't mention it...
It's the least I can do... considering my background...
I hope it will improve everyone's gaming experience...
Should you need any information on French history that is not readily available to you on the net, just ask and I'll do my best to provide it...
Rise of the Capetians or Curse of the French Kings are great names, although I am leaning towards Rise of the Capetians simply because of it's more positive attitude.
I don't mind authenticity in the names, but I'm hesitant only because I don;t want to rape the name itself when I try to pronounce or shorten it :sweatdrop:

I think that COFK is the better option because it leaves the ending open. If the Capetian line gets killed off in the first civil war you guys have, then ROTC will seem like a rather silly name.
my :2cents:
:drifts back to the shadows:
just call it Lord of the >Franks and be done with it :P
Hell, just call it King of the Franks. That was the title of the French Kings at the time and on an OOC level it also ties it back to KotR, which represents the changes being made to the rule system.

KotF? Nicely ambiguous.
KotF would be fine.
All in favor?

Isn't it too simliar to KotR?
I don't see this as a major concern.
