Last night, The Ring 2 was on on BBC1, and I watched it having seen the first one the previous week. And I have to admit, these films are very creepy to me, I half expected the TV to go blaring onto static when I switched it off at the end of it. I was speaking to one of my friends during the week having seen the first of the Ring films, and he said these sort of films really creep him out as well.
But my 11-year old brother on the other hand doesn't seem to be phased at all. As to why he was watching a film to 2 in the morning, well my parents were out and some drunken idiots smashed the car window and after the fuss he wouldn't go to sleep and started playing his xbox, so I said gah just go to bed and you can watch the film on your TV. Anyway, he said this morning that he did not think it was creepy at all, and he even thought bits of it were pretty funny.
So does this mean I am being a wuss, or do other people find these sorts of films creepy?
These japanese (or Jstyle) horror-movies rub a different spot. There are only so many blue people you can take they really overdo their scares, every scene must have one for some reason, less is more imho, the justification for what's happening should be scary.
Well I'm pretty fearless when it comes to real life, and have actually been complimented about it a few times, but these movies are something I avoid too......so I guess there is some specific 'movie wuss' breed of wusses under which we can be classified.

i never liked horror films. especially the ones released in the past few decades.
i dont know why, i just never liked them.
I loves me a good horror film, and I play no favorites. J-horror is fine by me, as are Euro-indie horror flicks. In some ways I'm a bigger fan of clever, low-budget horror films than I am of the Hollywood staples.
The only sub-genre I never kindled to is the slasher flick (Halloween, Fridays the 13th, etc.). Well, and the whole torture-porn thing (Saw, Hostel, etc.), never saw much point to those films.
A good horror movie is at its heart a survival movie.

I loves me a good horror movie too.
My favourites are Evil Dead (classic!), the Ring remake (Naomi Watts *drool*), and High School Musical (scary stuff).

The original Ring is the only movie that has ever scared me (since i stopped being a wuss at like 14 or so) i can get the jumps, just from a sudden unexpected loud noise as the killer jumps out but in terms of actually building up fear the ring is the only movie ever ever to make me feel even a little fear, and the ring gave me a decent bit of fear...
I even at one point watched hrough the gaps in my fingers (only for like a minute) before that day i would mercilessly mock anyone who did such a stupid thing...
I think watching it in the cinema really helped make it much more scary, if i had watched on DVD or something i probably wouldn't have been scared. Any other movie i have seen i could watch without any fear... but i have to give it to the ring...
The fear was great as well... its something i love to get again (from a movie) i do genuinely try to put myself in the movie as much as possible as well. Its easy not to get scared when you remind yourself its a movie every few minutes, look away from the screen and generally let yourself get distracted..
Personally, i would just call you a wuss though, your younger brothers slightly brave for his age... your a bit wussy for your age ~;)
I love horror movies, but I've kinda stop watching them because none of my family, nor friends like them. But if there was something that really drives me out from watching them is that the vast majority are highly predictable. You can usually figure out who will survive or who wont.
Puting the bunch of bad movies aside, the ring was actually quite interesting. I think I have never watched it complete (heh, my french teacher hasn't seen titanic nor jurassic park). I usually just watch the beginning when it's on TV.
Maybe someday I'll finish it.

To take a break from my tendency to be a bit OTT puritanical in such matters; I have to say that Naomi Watts is by far the best looking actress I have ever seen... Angelina Jolie and the others people usually talk about don't ever compare.
and High School Musical (scary stuff).
lol... when my Dad arrived back near the end of it (the Ring, not High school musical, just to point out), he said, what [insert wording here] are you watching now... I just said, you watched the whole of Momma Mia, you can never comment on anything film-related again. I think if I had to watch through an entire film of Abba songs I would be hoping someone would phone at the end of it and tell me they would put me out of my mysery. :laugh4:

Yeah that's the thing with The Ring, there's not much actual gore or anything like that, its 99% suspense. Then when something happens, like the dead deformed faces pop up, it takes you by surprise. Other horror films don't have that, it's just some guy running about with a chainsaw or whatever, its pretty predictable.

That's fair enough I suppose, although as you said its more about the suspense than actual gore or anything, so I am just going to tell myself that my little brother didn't get it to make myself feel better.
At least its not just me though, my friend who's my age says he gets creeped out by it as well, and he is a bit of a nutcase he's got his hand in a cast again after another fight. I think there are different kinds of fear, some people are fine with violence and gore but get 'creeped out' by more superstitious stuff... others are the complete opposite.
Love a good horror-movie as well, not the teenage slasher type, always liked religious horror, The Omen, Rosemary's baby, Exorcist etc. Scariest movie I ever saw must have been The Blair Witch Project.

First of all, I hate horror.
I have to close my eyes for 2/3rds of the movie at least if I want to have a semi decent sleep at night. Obviously... Thats when I have over 10 people around me.
Thats what I did in the senior boarders film night with "Shutter" (Bah, half of the girls were doing that).
When they were showing Jeepers Creepers in the boarding film night, I had to fake sleep as there were juniors around and I had to set a good example as a senior.
Thats how much i hate horror.
But anyways. I watched fragments of Ring. And personally, I didn't find it that scary. Perhaps around the same level of creepiness with Resident Evil movie.
If you truly want to experience the full might of Japanese horror, I heard that new Juon (Grudge) series is out over here.. And apparently that is extreme...
EDIT: while typing this, my fathers mobile had a phone call... Now why does he have to set it on a creepy ring tone...

Depends on how scared you get by blue kids, japanese version is pretty boring. Thing with japanese supernatural horror is that they insist on putting a scare in every scene, overkill.
I'm a total wussy! I get scared of the most silly horror movies. I like most of them though. The whole 'being scared' thing attracts me though, I tend to watch them now and then, even if I know I'll feel fear about all sorts of things rest of the day. :sweatdrop:
I never saw a horrow movie that affected me much, but both my wife and brother in law will have trouble sleeping after watching stuff like that.
