In, but expect my activity in July to be spotty at best.
I will be joining as well, though I do not expect to be active at the start of the game.
In! Why wouldn't I ever?! For the Glory of France!

I want IN ...
Though summer will somehow keep me from my comp...
I've been reading through the PBM's and I am really interested in joining one of them and as this one seems like a decent starting place I'd say I'm in. Even if there are FM's left for me could you let someone more experienced have one, as i think they would benefit more.

IN! :france:
EDIT: Is there a flag pic with those flowers on it?
This one?
:ca-quebec:
I'm not aware of another flag with the fleur-de-lys on it. Although in such scale its not very visible on Quebec's flag.
This sounds interesting - please sign me up.
BTW, sorry for bailing out on KotR at short notice - I got overwhelmed by real life stuff. But congratulations to everyone involved (especially TC and GH) for bringing it to a satisfying conclusion and for running an impressive successor game.

BTW, if you have time, I would love to hear your opinion on how the Battle of Trent (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=100878), which ended KotR, went. Your opinion would mean a lot to me.
Welcome back, Econ! :balloon2:
Looks like we have a good number of people. I'll try to find a way to randomize what order people can pick avatars in tonight.

Ha, I read the wrong thread first. Regardless, welcome back! We couldn't ask for a better omen about KOTR!
EDIT: I imagine you're probably making the rounds again econ, but I think you'd get a kick out of the 'Save my KOTR Elector' (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=101970) contest that was run when the game ended. I reread the topic a few days ago, it sure brings back memories. (Full Disclosure: This is shameless self-promotion on my part.) I've been excited about KOTF for a while now, and I'm even moreso now that we'll get to play with you when you're not a mod!

Assuming equal distribution across Houses, that would be five per House, which is a good number. My jaw is still on the ground at the idea of spawning 16 RBGs on turn 1, but in the long term, this level of participation would be great.

Quick question on allocating starting characters. Do people want me to assign the starting fms, or should I do it randomly from a list from the signup thread?

By the way, I will be on a longer vacation through August, so I don't think it makes much sense to jump fully in before just to have to put everything on ice through August, so I won't really join until Setpember. I'll just assume you'll have started by then! :beam:

Since some people have said that they will start a bi later then I guess you could assign those fm's yourself. It would be bad if randomly fm is assigned to a player who is away or join in later.
I'd likely try to leave them off of the randomized list, although that wouldn't work if some hadn't posted here they'd be joining late.
I think the main advantage of assigning is that I can pick some of the players that have been the most active and would take to the leadership roles of King, Prince, Duke, etc. well. The main disadvantage is any perceived unfairness...
Ibn-Khaldun
07-06-2009, 08:08
You can take these more active ones and randomly assign roles to them(although, I think that's what you meant).
I'll figure out a system for the starting fms (which are fairly few anyway, compared to the many rgbs). Given the importance of those first mainstay characters making it completely random might cause problems...
Is there anyone here who will want to wait on an fm (several kids are due to come of age in the first decade or so)?
Ibn-Khaldun
07-06-2009, 08:36
I don't mind waiting a FM if I can post stories of him growing up.
You most certainly can and I'll be glad to write stories with you, providing you want that of course. :clown:
Ok, given that some waiting is involved (the two younger prince are, well, quite young) I'll go first come, first serve. You are free to grab either Prince Henri or Michel, and anyone else that doesn't mind the wait may take the other son.
I will figure out starting fms and start pumping out those RGBs for people to choose as soon as I can. We can even get that taken care of while finishing the rules and mod, so people can start getting an idea for their characters.

Beware that if you want the names modded, you'll have to start the campaign with it. Besides, I intended to mod the names of the starting character as well (No more Perrin Gassou, yuck... Everytime I hear that name I can't help but think of a peasant rather than a general...)

16 is nothing. In LotR, I spawned 56 on the first turn (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=103959). :laugh4:

:jawdrop:
Just out of curiosity, roughly what proportion of the 56 were active after 10 turns?
I was very interested to see how you allocated the avatars, although I hope whatever process Zim uses, it does not take 7 days for players to finish it. I am itching to start writing a story...
GeneralHankerchief

Each player got a choice of RBGs (after the first batch, players got to pick from three), so there were plenty left over.
I'd say that there were around 20 initial stories introducing all of the avatars in the game's opening days.
And then there was Bart...
About every scenario I devised as his backstory was already posted when I finally got him. In the end I finally figured a backstory for him but never wrote, let alone posted it...

56 were spawned because there were 4 family members, thus 60 total avatars, which was double the number of players we had (30 players at start). We then went through a lottery, with priority given based on participation in the previous game (KotR) and in the test game that preceded LotR (this is what we did for avatar priority in KotR, so it was just continuing the tradition). First person on the list got their pick of any avatar, family member or RBG, on the list. When they were done, their chosen avatar was removed, and the second person picked. Rinse and repeat until all 30 players had chosen, at which point all extra RBGs were killed off to bring the avatars back down to 30. It actually worked pretty well and didn't take very long at all.

That was a very good system and something I'd recommend Zim do again this time.
I been convinced to give this a shot, so I apologise for any n00bness in advance (blame TheFlax).

I am sorry YLC, but I am going to decline your hunting trips if you invite me along, alone. I have a feeling some one will get shot and it won't be you or a deer.

I'm still resisting the temptation to join this one.
When does it start?
Glad to have you Andres.
It starts very, very soon. Just getting the mod together and ironing out some last few details.
Starting characters will be given by the mighty hand of Zim, as has been suggested to me through pm correspondence. :clown: For the the many recruitables, though, I'm thinking of doing it like LOTR with people picking by how many sessions they were active for in the previous game... FOr the beginning I will be recruiting more rgbs than needed for the players, so noone will be left with only one choice (later in the game only one rgb at a time will be spawned, however...).
I'm still resisting the temptation to join this one.
When does it start?
We have cookies, if your still on the fence.
Within a few days, next week I believe.
When does it start?
I think the allocation of avatars could start within days and the first session of Council when that is completed. The first turn of player movement will begin when you see a column of "1"s in this poll:

Grrr. The wait is killing me. All this discussion about rules, edicts, and procedures yet I don’t even know the details about my character. *deep breath, exhale*
yeaaaaah, let's goooo alrdy !!! :D
Please do not hold up the game on my account. My current delivery estimate shows up as July 13, 2009 - July 28, 2009, which is annoying but I guess that's what I get for going for the seller offering it at $5 instead of the stock Amazon price of $10. Until the game arrives, I'm perfectly happy letting other people do any moves of my character that are necessary. Most of the early stages will be IC discussions anyway, which don't require the game.
I'm actually just waiting on the mod at this point. Once we get that working we're good to go...
