Does large unit size cause more CTDs?

Larger units have been the cause of some issues with the game.

I don't know where it stands now.

Also the AI had an easier time handling smaller units and was better in deployment and use of them.

I have been playing with the smaller units from almost day one. It just means you have to be more efficient when your units are from 30 to 80 men.

Well in all fairness, enemies are 30-80 men too which just means that routing will be more likely due to large % of casualties. But smaller unit sizes make it easier for computer to handle when there's less pixel-soldiers on the field.

I like larger unit sizes just because it's nice watching more than 5 enemies die in a volley :laugh4:

The size of units doesn't change that much to performance. At least if you turn shadows off.

On a second note, don't play the smallest size as it will prevent your infantry to form squares.

I too don't really see that much of a hit on performance with large sizes. The massive units of Darthmod Commander don't really slow don't the game as much as I expected they would.
I too turn off shadows, btw.
Don't really suffer crashes during battles much since 1.2 either. The really big downside of big units is that units take longer to move through complex terrain. Fort walls are a real biggie. Takes a good 2 minutes to get a unit down from walls.
My computer runs a full stack v full stack field battle with about 4-5k per side smoothly enough, but get four or so units per side fighting and/or moving on the walls of a fort and my CPU is brought to it's knees. Fighting and/or moving though a village causes less severe slowdown but still quite noticeable.

recently upped unit size to ultra & haven't seen any noticable change in the performance, it still crashes due to lack of vid. mem after 4-6 battles.
