View Full Version : Single-Band Threads in the Frontroom

I've been locking single-band threads in the Frontroom, largely because at one point we have four or five of 'em, and they appeared to be spammier than the average thread.

Let's hash it out. Feel free to copy over your comments from the now-locked debates in the Frontroom.

Hail Xenu? Lemur loses cool points for that.

What? A poll to decide Org policy?

What's next? Democracy?

I chose "depends on the weather", but would have preferred "depends on the mood of the day from the first Frontroom moderator who sees such a thread".

Hail benevolent dictatorship!

i voted yes, but only if theres something to discuss. the closing of my AC/DC thread was unfair, because we were actually discussing something.

I am guessing it wasn't about sources of energy from the mains or from a battery either.

And why can't I have my Hillary Duff thread!? ~:nag:
Must I wait 'till she dies? Is that what it takes for a Frontroom thread!? Then will you all admit her brilliance!? :drama1:

Depends on the band. If it's a band I like, yes go for it. If it's a band I don't like, roll on the fascist state. :laugh4:

I think I might have been the one who started all this madness with my 05-12-2009 post:

. . . S . . .
. . . A . . .
. . . B . . .
. . . B . . .
B.L.A.C.K
. . . T . . .
. . . H . . .

I really never anticipated a voluminous exponential potentially problomatic clone-like scenario or I might have thought twice about the initial post... It makes sense though; there are so many ruling bands out there.

Not sure what to do at this point, other than to apologise (http://www.thepocket.com/wavs/apology.wav) to the mods and patrons in the event that this trend has annoyed people or caused a bother.

If there's some meaningful discussion to have, then I'm all for it.

Why can't there just be a thread for music discussion? Can people not talk about more than one band/ type of music? I voted No, cause it's a waste.

Why have a thread dedicated to only music? Can people not talk about more than one art form? Why shouldn't all music, movies, etc. be lumped into one bland, overarching thread? Otherwise it's a waste.

The problem, as I see it, and this applies to more than single band threads, is the penchant to get on an innane copy-cat theme like roll of similar spam like threads. The latest poll to get locked wasn't even about the music, it was about spelling preference for the band's name. Certainly we can do better than that or the topic is so tired it needs a long nap. The Frontroom's all about yaking it up and having fun, but let's have some purpose besides +1 our post counts.

Perhaps... you could open a subforum for music? just an idea though.

Most of these single band threads end up as a spamfest that doesn't make it longer than a page because no one discusses anything. We have a thread for movie reviews and no one complains that they can't just post about one single movie all the time.

Frontroom Music threads should only be started by declared and you-tubed members, who have documented their love for their band by posting a vid of their tribute to them.

Love Led Zep? Cool. Me too. Make a youTube of your personal fumbling attempts at the intro to "Stairway to Heaven".

Then we have a jump-off point to discussion. Otherwise, it's just "My band is better than your band". And nobody wants to read that.

Get involved. Make it personal. That's the ticket to Frontroom threads.

In my ridiculous opinion.

Next up: Should dual or tri band threads be allowed? Don't go away, we'll be right back.

:beam:

Edit: btw this post was on a slightly different frequency.

Your opinion holds great worth, Kukri-san.

Far as I'm concerned, Pink Floyd should be exempt from any rullings as they are, (or at least were) the official band of The Frontroom.

Colour me biased, but there you have it.

For some reason, I find myself totally in support of Kukri's suggestion...

I think Kukri, in his wisdom, nailed it.

Maybe, just maybe music is/can be such a topic that it can use its own forum. Fine, but then there should be really interest for that. If it is just an occasional once in a few days, then the topic(s) should stay in the Frontroom.

Andres, Louis, Kukri made very good points.

Don't know what I'm trying to say with that though.
In short: No.:beam:
