So I edited the script to finally get augustus units, and I must say they are some of the most well done units of the game, the faces alone are incredible. But this question is specifically about the preatorian and auxiliary cavalry. Why do the auxiliary have shouldered chainmail and the preatorians do not? Even the infantry auxiliaries have shoulder armor. It just seems that if the preatorians have higher defence stats they shold have better armor. And notice I did not once mention LS

IIRC the reasoning was something like the Praetorians wearing some of the best-quality gear available, ie. with the best manufacture and quality controls and so on. Making their mail stat-wise equivalent to the "improved" or "heavy" mail worn by the Celtic elites and the Ptolemaic Basilikon Agema.

That's true. That's why it's such a pity that most people don't get to the Augustan reforms, the units simply look wonderful.
