Sam Brownback, and 19 other Republican senators (plus one Democrat) have united in a bipartisan coalition to tackle a major issue facing our country today; human-animal hybrids.
Sam Brownback (R-Kansas) has introduced a bill- the Human-Animal Hybrid Prohibition Act- that will ban human-animal hybrids (though making an exception for scientific research).

I'm glad the Senate Republicans are finding useful things to do with their time.

Alas, my dream for having my own authentic cat-like tail (At least 3 feet long, all panther black) is never going to come true.
Does that mean Arielle is banned as well? I was looking forward to having my own real mermaid.

So, with the exceptions, this is a completely pointless bill.

I wonder if the ACLU will take this on as violating human rights to self-determination and sexual orientation? :laugh4:

If you read his blog, the exception is for growing and harvesting tissues, not for reproductive purposes.

That's the only sane use anyone would ever put this tech to, the whole idea is to sidestep the ethical issues, not make babies.
Not making "real babies" is the reason this tech was invented.

Essentially he is banning non-sane uses of this technology and people's orientations.

I'm a bad, bad person for laughing at that. :laugh4:

That's a much more eloquent version of my first thought upon seeing this topic.

Well, I guess I'll just have to dismantle my lab and move to some small Island out in the Pacific... maybe Val Kilmer will visit me sometime.

This must be part of the new Republican platform to lead them out of the wilderness. I can just see them using this in a big campaign ad: "We banned human-animal hybrids, we care about the issues important to you!". :dizzy2:

Am I the only one that sees the obvious pre-emtive strike to prevent the Democrats from recruiting angels into thier ranks? As that would wreck havock on the religious part of the Republican base. :book:
The proof?
The most obvious sign of angels are thier bird angel-wings protruding from thier backs, which are forbidden research by this new ban. :logic:

The bolded part is most intriquing in its broad sentiment and potential "loophole of lulz" application. How or why would the act ban hybrids if the research (the notable exception to the ban) didnt already exsist? Does this mean we already know how to make the hybrids?
Will Centaurs be riding into battle when we invade Pakistan/Iran?
