For those days when work was a :daisy: or after a fight/argument, what kind of music do you like listening to for such occasions when you need the blood pressure set down a notch?

I've grown to like much of the music by Medwyn Goodall.

I love Tchaikovsky. Something about the very melancholic nature of the pieces really cools me down. Oh except the Nutcracker, that really annoys me (my little sister does ballet, needless to say I've grown rather bored of it). I also have a CD with yo-yo ma accompanied by the Netherlands string orchestra that i enjoy.

I really liked the Acid Jazz (or "triphop," if you will) movement of the nineties, still some of the best chilling music there is. Examples:

While im driving i love to listen to music with a strong beat. right now i really like nirvana, morphine (buena anyone), and this japanese band my friend told me about, Wakarimasen (which translates as i dont understand).

If you can tell its not really about chilling me out more about putting me in a rhythm. i dont like to be too mellow while i am driving cause i find i make mistakes.

One of my unsung heroes for this is Patrick O'Hearn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_O%27Hearn). Emerging as a bassist for Frank Zappa, he went on to play with Missing Persons in the early 80s, and then went solo to produce his own digital "new age" music.

His early work is quite different from his more recent work, but an underlying style is prevalent throughout. If you try something and don't care for it, try another. I find it all low-key and very "relaxing." Excellent daydreaming music.

Some of you might recall his soundtrack for the movie White Sands.

Best thing for me to chill out is anything that I know most of the words to, so mainly pub rock, and mostly from the late 70's, 80's and early 90's. Bands like "Men At Work", "Hoodoo Guru's", "Angels", "Rose Tattoo", "Screaming Jets" and of course "AC/DC"
There are also some new bands I listen to "Wolfmother", "Jet", "Airbourne" and "AC/DC" is still around.

The best out of all those are "AC/DC" and "Airbourne"

i agree wholeheartedly with your choices. ac/dc is a personal favorite in terms of R&R.

Once I'm Emperor of the World, I will immediately issue some music-related decrees: No film or TV show may use "All Along the Watchtower" for the next fifty years, anyone who plays "Born to Be Wild" while driving will be sent to a labor camp, and people who shout "Play 'Free Bird'!" at concerts will be executed without a trial.

Maybe it's a result of a different perspective, but Steppenwolf -- especially "Born to be Wild"- is the ultimate driving music for me -- I guess because I grew up with everyone blasting pop rap out of their cars.

And yelling at a crappy alt-rock band to "PLAY 'FREE BIRD!'" is really, really fun. You should try it.

If I'm at home, any combination of Bach, Beethoven, and/or Handel are my first choices. Tony Bennett, Thelonius Monk, and most Jimmy Hendrix tunes (including "All Along the Watchtower -- sorry Lemur!) are good second choices, in addition to being good driving music. Also, for reasons I can't begin to comprehend, U2 tends to chill me out pretty good as well.
