View Full Version : 1.3 random unit refills...
It seems, 1.3 has introduced an interesting bug: random unit refills...
Example: I am playing on the unit size on which line infantry has 120 men, while grenadiers get 60 men. After a battle, I find out that one of my grenadier units has suddenly grown to 120 men while one of my intact line infantry units has shrunk to 18 men (it did not even fight). On the same token, after I refilled the army, one of my foot artillery units were blown up to the size of 120 men... They did not all have horses even. In the next battle, the 'supersized' artillery unit gang routed a full unit of cuirassiers in melee...
Anyone else notice something like this? I was playing Prussia, btw. And, if anyone asks, no, I was not playing any mods, just vanilla 1.3.
A screenshot depicting the oversized units is shown in my post below.

Thats crazy! Send a bug report with the save file, if you can.

I've uploaded a screen-shot. See the unit size of the foot artillery unit in focus? 94 men... That's after I had a few battles with them (lost 26 men in combat). Also, notice the grenadier unit, the bottom 5 from the right, size = 120, whereas the real grenadier size = 60 as in the bottom 4 from the right.
I do have a save game, but it's 120 mb or so. How do I send it in for a bug report? Does CA have an FTP?

I'd upload to something like filefront.com and then send CA an email saying what units did it, after what battles where against who etc and say see replay for proof.
The more detail the better.
edit: of course, if you've installed any mods, its moot.

No, as I said before, no mods; vanilla 1.3. I'll see what I can do on the filefront. I do not have an account with them yet. Also, I did not see anything like this playin with Britain and UP. Only with Prussia did this crawl up.

I have not had anything random like what you say, however, after changing government types my guards units became line infantry units with better stats than all of the others, a chevron they had not had and 160 men once I refilled the units. They started with only 40 each after the change. My unit size is small so they are double the normal size.

haha, 94 artillerymen.
look at it this way: if they ever get attacked, they can hold their own at least until you cavalry can help!!!
in fact, i just had a battle (also as prussia) where having just 50 men in each arty unit would have saved me.
both sides ended up being mauled, and it came down to my mortars and rockets. tey never had a chance...

I had that happen back in the days of 1.0 & 1.1. Then it was related to demi-cannons & sakers (the two artillery units at the start) joining as reinforcements. As they had a movement of 0, they couldn't enter the battlefield, and swapped manpower with other units. In one case I had an artillery unit with 120 men, in another case 4 units (two cavalry, one infantry and one artillery) swapped manpower, such that I had an arty of 60 men (Swedish cavalry), and a cavalry unit of 120 men.
I didn't see it in 1.2, as they removed the fixed artillery's ability to enter a battle as reinforcement.

Yeah, this kind of stuff happens, luckily it's pretty rare.
For me it was a unit of light dragoons that were taken from their full strength (160?) 5 chevron goodness to 350+ no experience n00bs after a battle in which they suffered little to no casualties.
btw
Does seem reinforcement related. My enemies, the Maratha, had several large stacks with sakers or demi cannons (not) entering the battle. something about that seems to cause havoc with exporting the results from that tactical battle to the stategic map. The 350+ unit size would've been from one of their units as I didn't have a unit that size.

I run mods at the moment, but I had this happen on vanilla.
The way I had it happen in vanilla was when I had built Life Guards as Prussia, then switched to Republic, which transformed my Life Guard infantry into oversize Line Infantry (they were normally 120 men, they were up to 150 men I think). It is reproducable. I don't know about other situations that can cause this though.

I am not sure that is a bug at all. I think it is a feature with regards to changing guard units into line units. Guards often had double the number of men in their battalions as other units, and while they are renamed you may find that they still have better stats than other line units.

Yeah, I'm actually not sure if that's a bug or a feature, but it's similar to the behaviour the OP was talking about so I figured I'd post it.
