Fort Collins, Colorado (I'm still moving).

I've lived/stayed in Salimiyyah, Kuwait (11 years), Dallas, TX (2.5 years) , Salwa, Kuwait (1.5), Lima, Ohio (1 year), Wapakoneta, Ohio (2 weeks), Lake Jackson, Tx (2 year), and Clute, Tx (1 year).

Salimiyyah was the best so far-Lake Jackson and Clute are not desirable. Ft.Collins looks good so far :beam:

However, everyone who knows me considers me a proud hebronite palstinian and a prouder buckeye, as I speak Arabic in a palestinian accent, and english as a western buckeye (believe me, there is an accent to its speech) :clown:

my new Geology teacher is still trying to figure out how to describe my origins in one word

...how to describe my origins in one word

I'd say excellent.

Love those town names, there's actually a town called Clute?

Also whats a buckeye accent? I mean is there a phrase an Aussie could recognise from American TV that sums up the way of speaking? Eg George Costanza has a very NY jewish voice ("it moooved Jerry!"), whereas Cliff from Cheers was a Bostonian (I finally worked out) "Its a little known faaaaact, Sammy". Is there a famous buckeye in, I dunno, the Simpsons or M*A*S*H or something?

what's abuckeye's accent? well, that depends on where you live. but most people in Ohio think of this (I speak it, minus the "warsh", which is more like "wosh" in my case):

http://www.soundcomparisons.com/

look for north America/ Ohio in the left tab.

there's actually a few peculiarities to the speech: the "warsh" instead of "wash" (dying out though), the fact that "full" and "fool" sound similar (not the exact same though), and "on" is pronouced as either o-an or oon (sorta), though the younger speakers pronounce "on" as "an" like the rest of the states.

otherwise, think of it as general american with a slight southern accent. the accent os called northern midlands american english-you can google it. (I did research to figure out why I soud so different from the rest of the locals in Clute, who tend to speak general american, or Texan english-I tend to have an easily excitable curiosity :embarrased:). Neil armstrong speaks with that accent, though he doesn't pronouce "wash" as "warsh" though-at least not that I know of. my mom is from the same hometown he's from (wapakoneta). Drew Carrey is also from Ohio, but he is from Cleveland and speaks with a more northern accent-even closer to General american.

as to Clute:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clute,_Texas

it really is called that-you should see the street names for lake jackson and Clute if you think that's funny: Oak drive, willow drive, Oyster creek, His way, that way, garland, narcissus, lazy lane, to name a few.

Jylland? Jutland? Sounds like the place where that infamous Danish-Muslim cartoon controversy began as well as the renowned WWI naval battle. No. My family's second car was parked on our driveway in the Google StreetView photo, and yet it was not blurred.

Hmm. I thought I read somewhere that Google does it to hide license plates.

But anyway, I really didn't modify that screenshot at all (other than cropping); the blur was there to begin with.

Yeah I'm envious too.

I'm in Sydney, Australia.

And here's the best pic I could find, showing the main street of my little suburb (comes from a New York Times article which for some reason did a travel write-up about it - as you can see the photographer/journalist was making some attempt to emphasise multiculturalism) (if you look closely in the top right you can see the hills of Brundisium :beam:):

haha... I'm sure they are... But remember, my city never had more then say 8.000 inhabitants, so to create such walls for so little people was really interesting.

If anyone is interested, the city has 3 sets of walls! The first were built when it was just a village, and incompassed a small area. As the City grew they built another wall, with it's edge where the center is now, And after that, for fear of the Ottoman Turks, they built this baby

I live in Northwestern Indiana, USA. It is a place rife with ignorance, and although I've lived here for the majority of my 27 years it never truly feels like home. However, that being said, there are some redeeming aspects of the area which prevent me from finding it intolerable. One of these is my school, with its excellent English department. Fine Literature is a comfort no matter what your locale! :book:

I live in the greatest place in the world

a place called Minas Gerais, which lies in the southeastern part of Brazil

Minas Gerais Flag
http://aimore.org/brasil/Minas_Gerais.jpg

Minas Gerais coat of arms
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/76/Brasao_Estado_MinasGerais_Brasil4.svg

In the city of Três corações, in the southern part of our State, in here:

the red highlighted area is the boundries of my city(i spoiled because it lags lol)

Três Corações coat of arms:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/03/Brasao_Tres_Coracoes.jpeg

And my favorite part, the countrysideitself:

Minas Gerais, almost big as France itself, is the most mountainous region and one of the richest growing economies within Brazil, a place where we have a culture of our own.
A place we eat cheese, and drink coffe a lot, seeing the train vanishing into the hills.

Brazil doesn't resume to Rio de Janeiro, favelas, carnival, organized crime and beaches, its a lot more, but unfortunally Brazil itself forgets this, and shows to the world the smallest part of the continent sized Brazil called Rio, yes i feel pissed off with this, but ohh well, life ins't fair is it?

Sorry for the big post.:sweatdrop:

ps: this post was made in another forum by a Portuguese girl who came to Minas Gerais and took several pictures, of the cities,

Born Wegberg, Germany (in an RAF base), now live in Leeds. Brought up in Whinmoor, in the heartland of the Kingdom of Elmet - and the site of King Penda's last stand against the Saxons. Of course cannot claim much linkage with this history, my mother's family being Irish(Republican/Catholic)/Scots (Jewish)?! The family name is apparently devolved from a Norman one, and tradition has it that they were, at one time, smugglers operating off the South-East coast of England, dealing with a particular set of Dutch smugglers who (apparently, according to the story...) double-crossed the Markwicks and stole our fortune. My paternal grandmother's side is (again, by family tradition) related to some illegitimate son of Richard the Lionheart.... How much truth there is in these 'traditions' is difficult to say :dizzy2:

But, what is pretty certain is that, like the majority of Brits are (and probably ever were) I'm just a dirty mongrel.

Phew...!! that was probably a little more information that I likely needed for this thread, but what the hell...
