READ THE RULES

1. NO OUT OF THREAD COMMUNICATION or out-of-thread hints of any kind. Be a sport, solve it yourself.
2. Observe any additional rules in your role PM exactly. Breaking them results in a Sasaki Kojiro-style host nuking of the entire game. Yep.
3. Day and night phases shall be 24 hours.
4. If the vote is tied between 2 people, the players whose lives are on the line will be given a choice of ninja weapons, and they will battle and flip out until one of them dies a freaking sweet death.
5. If the vote is tied between 3 people, everyone who voted for those 3 people will die.
6. NO LYNCH IS NOT ALLOWED
7. YOU MUST VOTE FOR A PLAYER BY THE END OF THE ROUND. Abstain is not a vote selection and will not be counted. 2 violations of this rule results in a WOG.

If you don't understand the rules, just ask.

Good grief, people! I know my games are popular, but... dang!

Maybe yall should go to TWC's mafia section because we BADLY NEED PLAYERS and there's not enough activity to even think about restricting how many games at once or how many players per game.

Seriously.... I host games like all the time there.

Chaotix
07-25-2009, 23:00
Hrmm... perhaps you could host two simultaneous games of "The Snatcher", with the extras rolling over to game two? We have the numbers, and seeing how the game can play out differently could be fun...

Although I imagine it could be a logistical nightmare...

Oh lordy no. This is an experimental game, I'm not even sure if it will work like I think it will. And it will be a hassle to host two. I'll draw up the role PMs and send them out shortly.

Everyone now has their role PM. The game will begin with the first Day phase. The story has been mostly laid out for you in your role PMs.

The Canis Majoris has landed on a Class R extrasolar planet, which is not orbiting a star but simply travelling through space. It is highly volcanic and there is a very thick atmosphere. The ship has landed... and after a day of collecting matter for fuel and making repairs, you return to sleep.

The next day, the crew awakens and the ship has been sabotaged. Many systems are now damaged and you cannot take off. You must use your voting power to stop whoever did this.

BEGIN!

You will have until midnight tomorrow to vote. It is 7:10 PM right now my time. Phases will be 24 hours.

What's wrong with voting to save yourself? I'm the only person I know is innocent. I accept my voting with no reasoning as a reason to vote for me, however it is simply my dislike of the first day round of mafia games that made me do that. We all vote randomly (or on the basis of previous mafia games, or for our "friends") and make up some reason for it not to look suspicious.

When I changed my vote it looked like I was going to be the unanimous lynching choice, kind of a desperation move on my part. Then I went to bed in a tie thinking I had ninja fun to look forward to, and woke up to find some odd voting whilst I was sleeping.
Seem like a conspiracy to have me lynched next round and deny me my ninjing this time round....

At the end of the first day, the crew of the Canis Majoris were undecided as to who sabotaged the ship. Suspicion fell equally on Shinseikhaan and Chaotix. As mandated by the Pizzaguy code, the tied vote required a ninja battle to the death. The fighters chose their weapons and prepared to defend their honor.

Shinseikhaan: I have no wish to fight you, Chaotix-san. Can you not see how desperately johnhughthom tried to avoid his fate? I had the power to destroy you and I chose not to vote for you. This failure belongs to you.

Chaotix: Why do you fear battle? Although I agree that john is suspicious, I had little choice but to vote for you; I would not simply curl up and die.

Shinseikhaan: If you wish to fight me, you will learn very quickly that it is most unwise to do so. It is a shame you will not be alive to remember the lesson.

Chaotix: Enough talk. When your skull is battered like chunky peanut butter, I will no longer have to endure your wit. Now let's fight!

Shinseikhaan dropped to his knees and began to meditate, which caused Chaotix to become impatient. "When I said 'let's fight', I meant now..." said Chaotix. But Shinseikhaan said nothing, and kept his arms outstretched and his eyes closed. "I don't have all day!" he protested, but Khaan would not move. Chaotix turned and looked at the rest of the crew and muttered "is this guy serious?". Suddenly, Chaotix felt a sharp pain in his ear, and heard a soft thunk against the bulkhead behind him. There was a curious sensation of warmth against his neck, and he reached up to feel what had happened, and he felt a nothing except for a chunk of his ear remaining. His looked at his hand, and it was covered with blood.

"I could have killed you already. You must learn to concentrate and be patient." said Shinseikhaan. "All right, that's it. I'm going to have to end you..." said Chaotix, followed by some rather colorful remarks about Khaan's parentage, specifically insinuating that his father was related to his mother, and that she had little say in the matter of his conception. Shinseikhaan's expression remained neutral; he would not be perturbed by mere verbal attacks. He merely replied "No, you!".

Chaotix bared his teeth and pulled out his nunchaku, and began to demonstrate his chuck mastery. The twirling sticks were moving so fast that they were invisible, and he began to approach his opponent. Shiseikhaan remained perfectly still as Chaotix moved closer, eyes closed. Soon, Chaotix was upon him, with his nunchaku spinning very close to Khaan's head, but the master remained in the kneeling position. Chaotix seized the initiative; if Khaan would not defend himself this would be a very short battle. With a flick of his wrist, the next swing was aimed directly at khaan's face, but the master merely leaned back and the spiked metal missed his head by mere inches. The next pass seemed to be headed straight for Khaan, but he rolled his body to the left to avoid the blow. As he moved, he unleashed a low leg sweep, which Chaotix deftly avoided, and a second leg sweep, again missing the mark. Chaotix' movements disrupted the swinging of the nunchaku, and so he moved back to regain his balance. By now Khaan had rolled to his feet and he began unleashing a volley of shuriken towards Chaotix. With Matrix-like agility, Chaotix swung his head back and dodged each thrown metallic weapon, until he dropped completely to the ground and rolled out of the way. As he got up, he saw that Khaan was approaching rapidly, so he leaped into the air and delivered a stunning triple roundhouse kick to Khaan's head, each of the blows missing the mark, and as he landed, Khaan delivered another leg sweep, this time causing Chaotix to fall. And he rolled to safety, he spun around to see Khaan flipping through the air. Chaotix swung his body to the left, and Khaan's foot went straight through the plasticite molded flooring, a blow that would have been lethal. Chaotix swung his nunchaku in retaliation, but Khaan ducked and rolled out of the way, releasing his foot from the gaping hole in the floor.

Khaan's foot had landed precisely where he wanted it to be, breaking open one of the fire suppression gas lines. When he removed his foot, a blast of pressurized gas blew up into Chaotix' face, causing momentary blindness. He moved quickly out of the area and tried to locate his opponent. The room was filling with a thick haze of gas; a billowing cloud behind him, and corridors going in each of the other three directions. He quickly checked down each corridor, but he could not see Khaan. When he turned around again, there was a stabbing pain in his chest. He saw a shuriken sticking out of his chest, impaling him right in the heart. He dropped his nunchaku.

From out of the billowing cloud of fire suppression gas, Khaan flipped and landed squarely in front of his opponent, and delivered a devastating kick to the jaw which snapped his head backward, snapping his neck. Khaan collected the weapon from his chest and the nunchaku from the ground, and went over to a computer console and shut down the fire suppression system. He calmly exited the section and went back to where the others were gathered.

Chaotix is dead.

There was some impressive wifom going on in my head as I tried to figure out which weapon to pick. On the one hand, I thought, "He's gotta pick the katana, everyone loves a katana, so I should pick the nunchaku....." and then I thought "But wait, if I know that everyone loves a katana, then surely he does too, so I should pick the Shurikens to counter the nunchaku he picked to counter the katana...." :laugh4:

I had the same sort of thing going on in my mind, too. Except when I got to the point where I should pick shuriken, I figured "No, he'll be expecting me to do that if he thought as far as I did, so he's probably gonna go with the katana just because I would expect someone to want to and therefore not pick it, so I have to go with nunchaku to counteract that."

:laugh4:

Next time, I'll just pick it randomly or something, I bet it will work out better. :laugh4:

NIGHT ONE-

The six remaining crew returned to their quarters. The hum of the power systems was all that was heard... until the sounds of screaming woke everyone up. They all rushed to the common area, but no one could figure out who had been screaming. Assuming it was just a nightmare, they all went back to sleep.

In the morning, more of the ship's systems were damaged. But all six crew members were still alive.

Oh my, well it took nearly all phase in order to get this ninja duel finished, but it was done! And now, the results will be posted. After that, it will be Day phase again because I got the orders already.

Be right back with the story.

At the end of the second day, the crew of the Canis Majoris were undecided as to who sabotaged the ship. Suspicion fell equally on White_Eyes:D and Johnhughthom. As mandated by the Pizzaguy code, the tied vote required a ninja battle to the death. The fighters chose their weapons and prepared to defend their honor.

White_Eyes:D: I challenge you, Johnhughthom. You tried to run from a fight yesterday. Now there is no escape.

Johnhughthom: Discretion is the better part of valor, oh Whitest of Eyes. You should not be so eager to embrace death... for it comes to us all.

White_Eyes:D: Especially YOU! And I shall be that one which brings that very same death that comes to us all and make it move in your general direction and I shall force you to embrace it and show it slides from your last vacation!

Johnhughthom: I LIKE SHOUTING, LET'S FIGHT!

White_Eyes:D unsheathed his katana and raised it above his head, posing in traditional kenjutsu style. Johnhughthom wielded his bo and curled his finger, inviting White_Eyes:D to advance. White_Eyes:D smirked because he knew his katana would slice completely through any simple wooden bo staff with ease. He began to circle his prey and made threatening motions with his weapon, relishing the thought of cleaving his opponent in two. Johnhughthom circled in the opposite direction, mindful of his surroundings. Suddenly, White_Eyes:D advanced, bringing the katana down upon his opponent's staff, intending to slice the bo in two, along with john's head. The incredibly sharp sword connected with the staff with a loud metallic clank. The bo staff was made of some kind of reinforced polyduranium alloy. As the weapons clashed, johnhughthom delivered a swift kick to the lower midsection of his opponent, and then twisted the bo staff and smashed it against his head, knocking him to the deck. John twirled the bo with ease and went on the offensive, attempting to batter White_Eyes:D as he lay on his back. All White_Eyes:D could do was block the blows with his katana until john got too close. As John brought the weapon down again, White_Eyes:D moved his head to the side and slashed at his chest, leaving a large bleeding cut across it. John seemed unaffected by the pain, but quickly reacted by twisting the bo and knocking White_Eyes:D in the temple, causing him to see stars. White_Eyes:D swung his blade in retaliation, but John moved back, allowing White_Eyes:D to leap to his feet, raising the katana above his head again.

Johnhughthom moved so quickly that White_Eyes:D did not even see it coming. As a master of the chopsticks may catch a fly mid-flight, so could Johnhughthom deliver a rapid blow to the face of his opponent. With the style of a master of fencing, John took the bo in one hand and thrust it directly into White_Eyes:D' nose like a pool cue, shattering it instantly from a distance of six feet away. It was not a move that White_Eyes:D had seen before and it caught him off-guard. He cursed at his opponent and called it a cheap shot, but then just as quickly he moved in to deliver a retaliatory strike, thrusting forward very quickly to deliver a potentially fatal strike to the chest. John's reflexes allowed him to partially deflect it, but the blade still pierced John straight through the shoulder, the blade easily passing through bone and flesh, exiting the other side. In response, John used his free hand to deliver a solid punch to White_Eyes' face, mashing him directly in his already broken nose. At the same time, he moved backward to pull himself off of White_Eyes' blade. John was able to ignore the pain, and fortunately it seemed he hadn't suffered nerve damage, so he still had partial mobility in that side.

Both men continued with grim determination. Blood was pouring down White_Eyes' face, and his lips were curled back, baring his blood-soaked teeth. John had a sober expression on his face, and he was bleeding profusely as well, and favoring one side over the other. They circled each other once more... and White_Eyes:D decided that he had the advantage and advanced again. This time, Johnhughthom kicked a release lever and the maintenance hatch he was standing on dropped open, allowing him to fall to the deck below, the katana missing his head by an inch. White_Eyes:D stood at the edge and peered down into the unlit chamber below. "I'm not falling for that..." he muttered to himself, and grabbed a nearby plasma torch.

White_Eyes:D turned on the torch and held it in his free hand, lighting the chamber below him. He dropped down and landed in a crouching position, keeping the katana at the ready to defend himself. The maintenance level was filled with exposed power conduits, fuel lines, heating and cooling systems, and the corridor led directly to the engine room. White_Eyes:D cautiously advanced, checking behind every storage canister and structural support beam. "Come out, come out, wherever you are..." he said.

There was a loud noise behind him, so White_Eyes:D turned and pointed the plasma torch in that direction. It seemed as though some kind of metal toolbox had been tossed deliberately as a distraction, so he turned back around just in time to see Johnhughthom moving from behind a structural support, ready to strike. White_Eyes:D parried the blow, but would need both of his hands for leverage, so he dropped the still-active plasma torch on the deck plating. Johnhughthom advanced, delivering dangerous strikes near the head and torso, each being deflected by White_Eyes:D masterfully. While John advanced, White_Eyes:D moved carefully backwards, positioning himself into a narrowing part of the corridor, full of cargo containers. The tight quarters limited the range of movement of the bo staff, and White_Eyes:D gained the upper hand and began to deliver more aggressive strikes, some dangerously close to the neck. White_Eyes:D jumped backwards, out of range of the staff, and then raised the katana above his head and brought it down in a killing motion. John barely was able to bring the bo between himself and the blade, and it again produced a loud metallic clash. Sensing weakness, White_Eyes:D quickly struck again and again, each time hitting the bo in fiercer and fiercer strikes, which John could not fully deflect due to his weakened shoulder. Bracing himself for yet another blow, John was knocked backwards when the blade connected. This time, the katana shattered the polyduranium staff into two pieces, and passed close enough to John's face to split his cheek, lips, and chin, causing his face to gush blood.

White_Eyes:D thrust the sword forward, but the blow was deflected with one segment of the bo stick and John used the other half to smash White_Eyes:D in the temple, causing him to stagger forward. John shifted his weight and delivered a knee to the jaw, making White_Eyes:D drop his katana. John moved in, swinging the two halves of his bo with each hand, unleashing a hellish combination of strikes to the temple, collarbone, and face, ending in a side kick squarely between his White_Eyes, knocking him backwards to the deck. He unfortunately landed right next to the still-lit plasma torch, which blew his head apart instantly and began incinerating him from the neck down. Johnhughthom picked up the torch and shut it off, and then grabbed the katana and climed up the long ladder to the main deck.

White_Eyes:D is dead.

The crew of the Canis Majoris were very unsure of who among them was causing the damage to the ship. By the end of the day, there was not much in the way of discussion, and the vote was still tied. After being reminded by the computer what time it was, A Very Super Market cast the deciding vote against Johnhughthom.

Johnhughthom: But... but... I'm innocent! I've done nothing wrong!

The other crewmen approached John, but he continued to protest.

Johnhughthom: What about... A Very Super Market? He cast the deciding vote, but he took all day to do it! He's clearly a scumbag!

The crew grabbed John by the arms, and began to lead him towards the Fuel Storage room.

Johnhughthom: Or... or... Shinseikhaan! He's not even spelling my name correctly, he's obviously been compromised somehow! Don't you see?

The Commanding Officer opened the hatch, and ordered the crew to toss John into the Cold Fuel Suspension Unit.

Johnhughthom: Have you looked into atheotes, our so-called medical officer? Shouldn't he be able to examine all of us... or something?

John hung onto the railing overlooking the suspension unit, which stores all of the extremely volatile plasma fuel in a supercooled liquid state and keeps it suspended in an anti-gravity sphere to allow it to expand or contract due to temperature changes, which keeps it from igniting.

Johnhughthom: And you're totally ignoring Death is Yonder! He didn't even say anything besides his vote... you're all acting like scum! Especially because you voted for meeeee..........

The crew pushed him over the side and he fell approximately twenty feet, into the fuel suspension sphere. When Johnhughthom splashed into the cold fuel sphere, all the heat left his body and he was instantly solidified. His frozen form floated around inside the sphere all night long with an expression of horror on his face.

Night

The crew of the Canis Majoris slept through the night, but there was still something out there damaging all the systems. It was getting to be a very dangerous situation; the pod would not take off, the power levels were dropping, the fuel suspension system was losing containment, and the force shields were beginning to fail. Internal scans showed that certain sections of the ship lost illumination, and heat scans showed a humanoid form lurching through the corridors. There was also a loud scream recorded on the comm traffic, but its origin could not be determined.

The lynch in this game was indeed designed to be a permanent thing, but you would also have the option to release the player from stasis if you desired to do so. Some aspects of the game are kept hidden and you're supposed to find out about them while playing. I had not expected the tied vote thing to be so popular, I thought it might be a simple and easy way to resolve the problem of tied votes which happen so often in mini games.

Day Phase

https://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb225/askthepizzaguy/34f01fl.jpg

The remaining crew of the Canis Majoris stepped forward to vote. This time, the vote was tied once more. Command Officer Shinseikhaan had two votes on him, and Medical Officer atheotes had two votes on him as well. atheotes was so sure of his innocence that he was willing to volunteer to be thrown into the cold fuel suspension unit, but this did not sway his fellow officers. Speaking of which... they crew had decided to release Johnhughthom from the cold. Their duel could wait.

They gathered in the cold fuel suspension chamber. After entering in a series of commands, the Command Officer lowered the fuel intake port into the sphere, and lowered the pressure. Johnhughthom's frozen form got blown halfway through the intake, and the action was cancelled. Then the intake port was raised up and Johnhughthom was placed into a nearby Kolto tank to be reanimated. The process would take some time. Now, the Command officer would challenge the Medical officer. The Command officer chose the Pata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pata_(weapon)), and the Medical officer chose the Morning Star (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_star_%28weapon%29).

Shinseikhaan: Another challenger. You must be very confident in your skill if you choose to challenge me, after what happened to your friend. :shame:

atheotes: I'm confident in my innocence, commander. There's something wrong with you... you didn't even seem to show remorse for your fallen comrade. :inquisitive:

Shinseikhaan: Neither shall I show mercy or remorse for you when I have split you into halves. Have you any last words before I turn you into kebab?

atheotes: After I tear your face apart with these protruding metal spikes, you might have better luck attracting women.

Shinseikhaan: .....prepare to die.

atheotes: LADIES FIRST!!! :furious3:

The battle began with Shinseikhaan swinging his Pata at atheotes and releasing it, causing it to fly towards atheotes' head with blinding speed, puncturing the coolant tank behind him. While atheotes was able to dodge the projectile, he did not see Khaan move across the room in a flash, with palm outstretched, knocking him squarely in the chest, knocking him on his backside. Khaan was immediately upon him, with one knee on the wrist of the hand holding the morning star, and his hand gripped firmly at his throat. Atheotes attempted to wrench Khaan's grip away from his windpipe, but the man was unnaturally strong. Khaan began pummeling atheotes in the face with his left hand, and there was no way for atheotes to block the blows. With rapid succession, each blow landed, and atheotes was already struggling to stay conscious. Meanwhile, the coolant was leaking all over the floor, some of it covering his face, and he was struggling to breathe. This couldn't possibly be... atheotes was too well-trained as an officer to simply go down like that.

The deck was now slick with the liquid coolant, and even the rough traction of their boots would have difficulty keeping their grip. With every bit of strength, atheotes reached up with his legs and hooked one around Khaan's neck, pulling him backward. Khaan attempted to resist but the floor was too slick to maintain his footing. Khaan crashed against the deck and rolled to his feet. atheotes pulled himself up and gripped his weapon tightly, and very carefully began to advance on Shinseikhaan, who began to circle the room, getting near his weapon. Atheotes cut him off before he could get there, and swung the morning star towards Khaan's waist. Khaan hopped back to dodge it, and another swing, and now another. Atheotes had now pinned him to the corner of the compartment, and prepared to unleash stinging **** upon Shinseikhaan. Atheotes delivered a quick thrusting kick which sent Khaan directly into the bulkhead, and swung the morning star as hard as he could towards Khaan's head. Khaan dropped down just in time, and the weapon hit nothing but air. Now atheotes swung lower, and Khaan had no more moves except to attempt to block the blow with his arms. The weapon struck Khaan in the forearm, digging in deep. But he was now almost in a sitting position, and he gripped the weapon with his other hand, and raised his feet to push atheotes off of him. The man wouldn't budge, and so Khaan delivered a swift thrust to the groin with his heel. Atheotes rolled onto the deck in pain, dropping the morning star. Khaan slowly stood up, and looked at the huge wound he had sustained to his left arm. Then he carefully pulled the spiked weapon out of his flesh, blood pouring from the gash, and threw it at atheotes, who was just getting up. The man was quick, but it still impacted him in the shoulder and sent him to the deck once again in pain.

Khaan went for the Pata, which was still protruding from the coolant tank. The gauntlet slid onto Shinseikhaan's right hand, and he tucked his wounded left arm behind his back. Now atheotes had removed the morning star from his shoulder, and had control of the weapon. The men were across the room from one another, separated by the ever-growing pool of slippery coolant. They advanced on one another, Khaan with his blade raised for battle, atheotes with his morning star at the ready. Khaan was the first to attack, thrusting the blade from a safe distance. Atheotes was unable to move out of the way in time, so he was stuck in the abdomen, just barely. He swung the star towards Khaan's head, and Khaan ducked the swing. Another swing, and Khaan met the weapon with his own gauntlet-covered hand. The clash of metal was fierce, almost knocking both men to the deck. Atheotes kept swinging, and Khaan continued to deflect the blows, until atheotes grabbed his wrist and twisted the blade back, and took a free swing at Khaan's face. Khaan had to try to deflect it with his free hand, but it was already weak from the earlier wound. The force of the blow was reduced, but the spiked weapon continued on towards his head, impaling him in the side of the face, one spike going right into his left eye. Khaan roared with pain and delivered a vicious kick to atheotes' knee, causing him to lose his footing. Atheotes fell, dragging Khaan down with him, and the two men struggled on the deck, rolling around in a mixture of coolant and their own blood, their metallic weapons clattering. They struggled to gain leverage over one another, but they were too evenly matched. Finally, Khaan managed to pin atheotes down and prevent him from swinging his weapon. Now, he lowered his pata against the man's throat, attempting to sever his neck. Atheotes could only hold the metal blade back with his own weapon, but Khaan had the advantage, and he was pushing his full weight down on atheotes' neck. Khaan's face was bleeding profusely, the blood getting into his opponent's eyes, making it difficult to see. Atheotes, in desperation, gripped the blade of the pata and tried to forcefully lift it off of his neck, but all that did was split his hand apart. In a few seconds, it would all be over. Gripping the blade as firmly as he could, he lifted it just enough to get his morning star free. With one brutal swing, he smashed Khaan in the side of the head, knocking the man off of him.

Khaan was on the deck, bleeding from both sides of his head... he looked unconscious. atheotes struggled to get up, but he was having trouble getting his footing. He gripped the nearby railing, and pulled himself up. He heard the sound of rapid footfalls behind him, and turned to see a bloodied and vengeful Khaan rushing him at full speed. With both hands he shoved atheotes over the railing, and the morning star went flying off into the darkness. Atheotes gripped the railing and slammed into the side of the overhang, his hands slick with blood and coolant. Khaan grabbed the Pata and swung it at his opponent's hands, and atheotes let go to avoid the loss of his fingers. He fell into the darkness below.

Commander Shinseikhaan entered a series of commands into the nearby control panel. An alarm sounded, indicating that the cold fuel suspension unit was losing anti-grav cohesion. Very shortly, the sphere of supercooled liquid would turn into a lake, covering the entire lower decks with enough cold fuel to freeze anyone that happened to be standing on that level. Even if they didn't touch it directly, the air temperature nearby would drop to levels far below freezing in an instant.

Atheotes had been knocked out by the fall; he had hit his head on a cargo container. But the loud warning alarm caused him to stir. When he realized what was going on, he knew he would have to get off of the service deck and back up to the main level. There was no ladder, and the nearest access port was down a long, dark corridor. Even worse, he heard the sound of one of the military-issue plasma rifles being charged up. He had to move.

Khaan was on the upper deck, and he began firing plasma bolts at his foe. Atheotes ran as fast as he could across the room, and he could hear the sounds of exploding containers and fire suppression systems going off behind him. Bolts of plasma streaked towards the medical officer, and he dove out of the way. The room was filling with smoke and suppression gas, and there was little time left before the cold fuel was released. The sphere hung ominously in mid-air, the smooth surface now rippling... the sphere began to descend towards the deck. Atheotes saw his morning star in the corner of the dimly lit room, and he ran to grab it, again dodging plasma bolts fired from above. Khaan had to move in order to get a better shot. Atheotes grabbed some fiber optic cable that was protruding from the bulkhead, and tied it around the weapon as quickly as he could. He snuck quietly around the room while Khaan was still trying to locate him, and he swung the morning star towards the railing above. It swung around the railing and got tangled up with the fiber optic cable. Khaan finally spotted him and aimed his plasma rifle directly at atheotes.

The medical officer dove out of the way of the projectile, just in time. The bulkhead behind him exploded, and things were looking grim. The cold fuel sphere finally touched the deck, and the fuel was released, spilling everywhere. The medical officer got on his feet and ran back towards the hanging fiber optic cable and propelled himself off of a nearby cargo container to grab the cable in mid-air. Khaan prepared to fire the plasma rifle again, but it needed a moment to heat up more plasma bolts. Atheotes gripped the cable and pulled himself up, hand over hand. When he finally got up to the main deck, Khaan was ready to fire again, and he was circling the room to get a clean shot. The medical officer grabbed a twisted bit of pipe, quickly opened a nearby hatch and sprinted down the corridor. Khaan followed.

Atheotes ducked into one of the crew's quarters. He was appalled at what he saw. The bed was covered in blood, and the place had been ripped apart. Wasn't this A Very Super Market's quarters? But there wasn't time to figure out what was going on. Khaan was firing plasma bolts down the corridor to illuminate it. Atheotes entered a couple security commands into a wall panel, and the doors slid shut. The quarters across the hall, however, slid open. Atheotes waited in the darkness.

Listening carefully, the medical officer heard Khaan walk toward the quarters across the corridor, and begin firing into the darkness. Now was atheotes' chance... he opened the door and prepared to swing the metal pipe against Khaan's head. Khaan heard the noise behind him and turned to defend himself, pushing the rifle between him and the pipe. The metal pipe bent the rifle, and sparks flew into both men's faces as it shorted out. They both fell to the deck. Khaan had remembered to bring his Pata, sheathed and hanging off his utility belt, and he drew the weapon. Atheotes stood quickly and wielded the metal pipe with grim determination. Now he had to finish Khaan. He rushed his commanding officer, pipe raised, and prepared to smash his skull to pieces while he lay prone on the deck. With a sudden movement, Khaan outstretched his arm, and the Pata skewered his opponent through the stomach. The sudden impalement caused atheotes to drop the pipe, and it clattered harmlessly to the deck. Khaan raised his foot, and as atheotes fell forward, Khaan flipped him over his head and onto the deck behind him. The Pata slid out of atheotes, causing his stomach to gush dark red blood.

Atheotes was curled up in pain, but he still tried to get to his feet. Perhaps there was still a way he could get to the medical bay... he pushed himself to his knees and looked up to see Khaan thrusting the Pata into his neck. Blood spurt from his mouth and neck, and the sensation of metal sticking through his throat was uncomfortable beyond belief, and it was suffocating him.

"Good-bye" said Shinseikhaan. He then twisted the Pata, cutting atheotes' head from his body like a pair of scissors through paper.

The four remaining crewmen did not have a restful night. Every single one of them suffered massive headaches and terrible, terrible nightmares. Johnhughthom, AVSM, and Death is Yonder started coughing up blood. The internal scanners went offline that night and the life support system failed, and backup systems were running at 20% of standard. The ship was filling with noxious gasses, and the temperature was rising.

The crew staggered to their feet, and they began the process of voting once more. Their time was about to expire.

Shinseikhaan: Good.... good... you've done well, my puppet... and now, the great honor of feeding the next generation of an entire species goes to you. It is a much greater purpose for you than the task of spreading your filthy human seed across the galaxy. I shall release you from my control, and allow my offspring to devour you while you are still alive.

Just then, Shinseikhaan doubled over and began coughing up blood... and the mother creature emerged from his neck. He was finally released from his control... now if he could only get to the medical bay, and adjust the environmental controls back down to a near-freezing temperature... but they were all around him. The Swarm came from all directions, and the creatures began tearing his skin apart piece by piece. But Commander Shinseikhaan was a genetically advanced and enhanced human. He sprinted down the corridor, even as the creatures fed upon his open wounds, his non-functional eyes, and the blood pouring down his body. They swarmed inside his ears and his nose, but he continued to run down the corridor. The creatures were inside his blood stream now... if he could just keep going a little farther... the environmental control unit was just a few meters away...

He lost consciousness, and fell to the deck. When his head hit the solid metal deck plating, his skull exploded, and a thousand more creatures were released from his brain cavity. The Swarm feasted on his flesh, which was the tastiest of them all, and they also ate the corpses of the rest of the crew. When they were finished, the Mother creature activated a distress beacon, and the entire hive lay in wait... hoping their next meal would come... until then, the entire colony lay dormant. With the power systems still functioning, and a fusion-powered source of ultraviolet radiation coming from the lights in the corridors, and the temperature set to the same conditions as the volcanic environment outside the pod, they could remain in hibernation for millions of years. It was only a matter of time before another group of outsiders ventured too close to their home world.

The Snatcher

End of game notes

Premise:

Some time ago I began an experimental game which involved every player having the same goal, which was simply to survive to the end of the game. They were all told they were "the traitor" and that it would be very difficult to nightkill anyone while so many people were still alive, near-impossible. There were subtle hints in the role PM and in the title of the game and in the writeups, it got progressively more explicit what the real goal was. Ultimately, that was the golden rule... treat others as you would have them treat you. The game very nearly was won when people decided the correct course of action was to refrain from lynching or murdering anyone. However, some got an itchy trigger finger and started attempting murder. After several traitors had been killed, people became aware they were not the only traitor. Still it persisted until they had all killed one another. An interesting experiment, a fun game, and everyone got to play the game as they saw fit... one player eventually decided, albeit too late, not to go on murdering, and was promptly lynched. It was a memorable game, but I had been thinking about the opposite set-up... instead of all the players being scumbags, what if everyone in the game were a townie? And then, what would the challenge be? Who would be the antagonist?

And so was born... The Snatcher. 7 townies isolated on a space ship, with a hidden enemy. The ship was stranded on an unknown, dark planet floating through space. The crew exited the craft to get fuel, and returned by the end of the day. And now there were 8 life forms aboard the vessel.

Host notes-

In order to ensure fairness to the best of my ability, the Snatcher would be unable to murder anyone. the Snatcher would also have no choice as to which player's body it would inhabit for the day, and it would inhabit a new body every day. Each inhabited player would become aware that their actions were being compromised, and then released from the Snatcher's control... which would help them figure out what was going on. Of course, the game would be over very quickly if every inhabited player could simply blurt out "I've been snatched!" after the fact. You'd simply use deduction to figure out who had been inhabited that day. Since I would have to inhabit everyone, there would be no chance for a town loss by the final round, because the lynch choice would be obvious. So to make it fair on their end, they would have to refrain from discussing their own snatching. To compensate for that, the lynches would not be lethal to the townies, only to a snatched player.

I would have to inhabit the mind of every living player for an entire day, and then leave a little souvenir behind, and move onto the next one. Should I become trapped in the body of a player being lynched, it would be game over. In theory, with a lynch (rather than a duel) every day, the game could have lasted for 7 rounds. By the final round, 6 townies would have been aware of the situation and probably could have seen the obvious signs of a snatching, such as delayed responses or thread inactivity while the player was active elsewhere (I can't be at the computer all day long to give responses to queries). If I had inhabited a player that was suspicious, that was tough luck. If my player was inactive that day, my hands were tied. Further, if I am ordering people to vote for a lynch, who do I choose for that lynch? In order to create the illusion that I was potentially one of the other players, I had to be careful who I picked. Especially because I had to become that player in a later round, and I would have attracted suspicion onto that player, while in another person's mind. But I also had to think of surviving in the current round... every player had to be fair game if I was to survive each round. By the end I had much difficulty selecting a vote for a lynch... As AVSM and Death is Yonder, I might have made it seem like Shinseikhaan or atheotes was the Snatcher. As Death is Yonder, I already voted for atheotes. Now how was I going to convince anyone that I wasn't Shinseikhaan, the player I was inhabiting that round? I couldn't vote for AVSM as Khaan, because AVSM probably would have just counter-voted, and DIY already could have thought me scum. I didn't think I could get atheotes to side with me. It seemed like the only one I would be successful in starting a bandwagon on was myself. And Khaan's style was very brief... I wouldn't be able to be too wordy while controlling him, it would have been an obvious giveaway. I simply had to vote correctly and hope. This was not a walk in the park by any means. Even on round one I ran into trouble.

The order of snatching was randomized courtesy of Random.org.

1. Johnhughthom
2. AVSM
3. Death is Yonder
4. Chaotix
5. Shinseikhaan
6. White_Eyes:D
7. atheotes

I knew this was going to be difficult for me, especially with White_Eyes near the end of the game, and Khaan in later rounds. I knew Khaan would get voted in later rounds (if he survived that long) because he attracts votes like nothing else. White_Eyes' style of play could also mean trouble for me if he survived that long and hadn't been tossed in the cold fuel yet, because I believe he would also attract votes.

ROUND ONE-

I sent a message to Johnhughthom informing him that he had fallen under the control of The Snatcher, and that all his actions would come directly from PM, and there would be no others. I had him vote for atheotes just to get things rolling; I didn't believe atheotes would OMGUS vote John... and I was WRONG. Then, Chaotix also voted for him. I was getting nervous... this was a cool set-up and I had an exciting plot written and everything was going to get exposed right away. I nudged people to vote. Then Shinseikhaan voted for John as well, and by now I was thinking "oh bloody (expletive)". I was sure I was dead. 3 votes on the first round? Try reversing that!

I panicked and sent John a message to switch votes to Chaotix to get 2 votes on him, but Khaan had already had two votes... it was the better move. But I was too late, he had switched to Chaotix.

Now what?

AVSM reminded John that he was still doomed, and I had a convenient excuse to alter his vote again. Now I was tied with Khaan at 3 votes.... but after all those obvious moves, I was looking scummier than a still pond at a sewage treatment plant.

Chaotix broke the tie in John's favor, and I nearly jumped for joy. Then White_Eyes voted for Chaotix, and then Atheotes changed his vote to Chaotix... and John was in the clear. I wiped the huge amounts of nervous sweat off of my face and waited for my heart to stop spazzing. Shinseikhaan correctly protests... "hey! Why is John getting away with this?" And no one listens to him. Poor guy. Chaotix also agrees that john is scum but can't move his vote for self-preservation reasons. After Chaotix tried pleading with people to shift votes to John, the 24 hours were up. John has survived the round.

Khaan and Chaotix square off, Khaan picks paper and Chaotix picks rock. Khaan wins. Sad that either of them had to go, they were both really on the ball. Lots of enthusiasm for the ninja duels.

ROUND TWO-

AVSM makes a joke about inviting a horrific night session. How prophetic he is. I release John from my manipulative grip and I invade AVSM's brain. Now he's MINE! No murders during the night, the ship is damaged, and someone screams in pain. <----Clues.

Now I take advantage of how scummy John looked last round and I ask AVSM to vote for him. White_Eyes invites a bandwagon on himself. John votes for AVSM.... and I'm thinking... be calm... be calm... it's just one. Soon John and White_Eyes were tied for a duel... at this rate, murdering wouldn't have been necessary at all.

White_Eyes selects scissors and John selects rock, after a somewhat quiet round. John defeats him and White_eyes gets the death he apparently wanted.

Night- systems were sabotaged and people were complaining of headaches. But no murders. <----Clues.

ROUND THREE-

I released A Very Super Market after A Very Super Day and inhabited the mind of Death is Yonder. Khaan was still after John, and John was still after AVSM. I didn't want to look like a dirty bandwagoner, so I picked atheotes. He was hardly getting any suspicion on him all game, so I was hoping to eliminate him soon. Otherwise I might have gotten stuck inside of him just at the same time people were getting tired of the usual candidates. Atheotes votes for Khaan. The round is so woefully inactive I have to prod AVSM to even vote... he breaks the tie and John goes for a swim. he could just as easily have voted for Death is Yonder, creating an uncomfortable 5-way tie that I would be ethically obligated not to break on my own, because I knew too much.

Night phase- more screams, a figure lurching through the corridors, and lots more sabotage. There was clearly an alien presence posing as a human. But that's all the clues you were getting... now I was about to face another round of excruciating decisions.

ROUND FOUR-

I had already been AVSM, and Khaan had been gathering suspicion all game long. If I had voted for AVSM, I was pretty sure he would OMGUS vote me to death. I had just been Death is Yonder, and I'm sure he would have voted for Khaan if I had him vote for Death is Yonder. If I were to vote for atheotes, as I did last round as Death is Yonder, DIY might have been tipped off that Khaan was under my influence. What do I do? What do I do? I was panicking. I told Khaan he was under my control, but I didn't have an order to give him.

I wanted to wait and see what would happen that round, but Khaan was also absent IRL. He might have had a maximum of one visit to the thread in 24 hours. I needed to give him a final vote right now; there might be no second chances. Oh, to be stuck inside Khaan... If I had been atheotes I would have been fine. Just vote for Khaan and you'd be all done. But no, I had to be the suspicious one.

This round, John was scheduled to be released if the town voted for that option, not that it would have mattered. This was the deciding round... unless AVSM or DIY got lynched, this was it. I was not looking forward to being atheotes in the final round after AVSM or DIY got lynched. He had been quiet all game and my mafia sense was tingling... he wouldn't live through the final round, not with me inside him. Or maybe I'm just paranoid.

Miraculously, AVSM votes for atheotes. WHAT??? Why? Nevermind, don't care, I'm with ya, buddy. As I predicted, atheotes counter-voted me. Khaan was just scummier than AVSM, who never even got close to being lynched. Then death is yonder sided with atheotes, also as I predicted... obviously the snatcher was not atheotes because last round I had him vote for him! See the clues? I was now hoist with my own petard. If AVSM changed his vote to Khaan, my pizza would have been fully cooked.

atheotes wisely demonstrated he was not a-skeer'd of being tossed in the cold soup, and that made Khaan look even worse. But no one budged. I was sweating bullets.

The round ends in a tie and I'm still worried that Khaan would pick the wrong thing and I'd die... but I was happy because either way it turned out, there would be one heck of a climactic and nail-biting ending. I can't tell you how exciting this game was to host.

Khaan chose scissors... and I was thinking... "oh no.... everyone picks rock. I'm doomed!"

But atheotes chose paper, and the fate of the 7 on board the Canis Majoris was sealed. Now to do my players justice by giving them a memorable epic write-up and some nice uncertainty as the night wore on... what would happen to them? The eggs I laid in their brains would hatch, their heads would explode, and my offspring would feast off of their entrails. Otherwise it would have not been nearly as frightening a game. There had to be a lot at stake, of course.

I have inserted myself into certain games before, but always very cautious to make sure it made sense and was justifiable and fair. The amount of handicaps I gave myself and the number of times I nearly died, and the number of chances that the townies potentially had to get it right, told me that the game was fair. But I also realize not everyone might share my assessment, and if that is the case, I do apologize. It was an experimental game, which might not have been balanced (I felt it was) as experiments usually go. I hoped that the story, the suspense, the setting, and the violence you come to expect from my games would at least keep things fun. I was nearly dead right away, and I almost died in the final round again, and everything was decided by a very fair game of rock-paper-scissors, the outcome of which was determined by the players themselves.

Hopefully the game was enjoyable for all, and thank you so much for playing. Thanks also to all of you who showed interest in the game! I really am very appreciative towards all you players who signed up so enthusiastically.

I hope some of you come play down at Total War Center's Mafia section, which is located in the Coliseum. I host and moderate down there. And of course I'll still be here. Thanks again!

I also have to commend White_Eyes for correctly deducing that this was similar to the Golden Rule game, in some ways. That's quite a leap to be making, and I'd figure you'd only make that leap unless you had a few stones along the path which would logically lead you there. I'd be interested to hear his thoughts on that.

On a side note- this, folks, is why self preservation votes in the first round are scummy. No one has proper reason to protest a random first round bandwagon unless they've got something to hide.

It's an interesting challenge keeping mafia mini-games fresh, fun, and balanced. There's only so much you can do with 7 players. If I ever do an unusual/experimental game in the future, I will continue to do you players the courtesy of warning you right in the rules of the first post. That way I can keep hosting somewhat normal games and not have people assume it is automatically the least likely option.

"Maybe, just maybe, our objective is to get ourselves lynched as soon as possible! Only Askthepizzaguy would come up with that! It's a race between the mafia and the town to die first!"

No... I won't torment you like that. If it's an experimental game I'll label it as such.
