I don't seem to be able to post a question in the Sword Dojo forum so I hope it's okay to put a question about Shogun here. I just got the game and it seems very difficult to get any information about the game basics. The various manuals available seem more or less useless and the freelance strategy guides and advice articles seem to stress advanced issues. If anyone can direct me to a good nuts and bolts guide to basics, I would sure appreciate it. Anyway, I finally found a description of how to retrain units up to full strength (buried in an faq) but it doesn't seem to work for me. As I understand it, you have to move the unit to a province that can train its type (that has a spear dojo for instance), select the unit, then open up the training screen by clicking on the icon at the lower left of the strategy view, then drag the unit to be retrained into the training queue. However, opening the training screen seems to deselect the unit and after that I can't find any way to drag it anywhere. What am I missing? Also, while I'm on the subject, I don't seem to be able to drag units into my castle. Is there a trick to this? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this.

I've moved this to the Sword Dojo for you. Catiline and company will be sooo happy to get some 'new blood'.

I'll leave this copy of your post here for a couple days so you can find it, then delete.

Keep posting, you'll be upgraded to senior patron soon, with posting priviledges in all forums.

Guess I'm company then...

For retraining, select the province, click the training que, (it's open now), select the army, click drag &drop the unit into the que.(or try these steps in an another order)

For garisson a castle, drag& drop the army, remember that there might not be enough space in the castle (only 16 units). If you can drop the army in a castle, the army will light up.

Hope this helped.

Mith has it right - except when you "drag" the units, you don't drag the unit from the board; when you select an army the units' icons appear in the taskbar along the bottom. Click on one of these units and it becomes outlined in red.

To re-train one you must have the "Unit Building" window open; drag the units icon into the build slots.

Similar for garrisoning units in a castle, just drag the unit icon over your castle and drop.

Is it available only on Mongol invasion? Because I have reinstalled the pure STW(great game thru the ages), and couldn't retrain units as I do in MTW... what a shame, I'd like to add some armor to my lone 6stars heir(Mori monk).....
