I've just noticed that Carthage changed their capitol from Kart-Hadast to Ippone even when i didnt even conquer Kart-Hadast. Does anyone why the AI does this or is just random.

The AI places it's capital in the middle of it's empire, probably to minimize corruption and distance to capital-penalties. Therefore, it often prefers backward towns as her capital rather than fully developed centers of power.

But the AI does not just switch it's capital whenever it gets to large. I think it is semi-random as to if it changes it's capital. I would just RP it if I were you..some ursurper to the throne takes power and changes the capital.

In addition to generally putting it's capital at the center, the also AI seems to move it's capital according to whether the border regions have low public order. For instance, playing as Baktria I've noticed that at the beginning, regardless of where I set the capital of the Seleukid Empire to initially be, it always is moved to Seleukeia after the first turn, and it will usually stay there until it expands or contracts one way or another. But if I put a bunch of spies in the border regions, Margiana, Sogdiane, or Dayuan, and try to get them to rebel, the Seleukids will move their capital to Susa in order to compensate for this.

This was an added "feature" of RTW v1.5. It really annoys me. Too bad there is nothing that can be done to stop the AI from doing this.

I just roleplay what capital the AI should have and ignore what the game assigns as the capital. After all, there really isn't any difference for you what the AI capital is.

Argh, whenever CA is trying to 'fix' something they actually screw up :furious3:
CA could better just put EB on the RTW disc, It's way better and it saves everybody that 700mb download time.

Parthians used Dara must be Asaak in EB, Hekatompylos, Susa, Ekbatana, and finally Ctesiphon they nearly changed their capitals once in 20 -25 years, even they used dual capital one for summer one for winter.
So I do not care on capital issue....
But I keep Persepolis as my beloved capital for role playing Achaemenid Successor, as there is no Ctesiphon in EB.

@Phoenix

The problem isn't so much that they move their capitals (Which is ofc something that happened in reality, as recently as Astana/Almaty in Kazakhstan) but that they choose the weirdest and most backward places to house their royal court.

Well, Astana is weird and backwards.. it's in the middle of nowhere, just the president's toy.

Well to be fair, it's in the centre of the Kazakh nation, and areas which once were backwards and weird such as Madrid and Brasilia have been transformed by becoming the capital of a country. But the Ptolemaioi moving their capital to Jerusalem? Umm, something's not quite right there.
