View Full Version : Musica Romana & another question

My first question: does anyone know where to buy their music (http://www.musica-romana.de/en/index-beta.html) electronically? I do not care to pay all that extra money for the shipping, CDs, booklets, etc. I was wondering if any sites offer them for download, such as iTunes. I did a Google search, but the only site I found was a questionable one which sold an entire album of theirs for $1.20 USD. I checked the site's (URL REMOVED BY MOD)legality, and it said their operations are "compliant with the laws of the Russian Federation", i.e., they are basically a legal torrent site which takes all the money for themselves, or at least that is what I think. Not good. Not to mention, they have minimum limit of $20 deposit, and I simply wish to buy one small album. Otherwise, I do not need or listen to any other music.

Thus, that pathway is not valid, as I doubt its legality and I would like support Musica Romana with my purchase. Amusingly enough, that site is not economical for me either, due to the minimum deposit. Does anyone else know how and where to get Musica Romana? And is it true that they have only two albums?

My other question is whether I can add music to EB from other mods or Musica Romana. I know the folder which contains the music. However, that folder is a literal dump. All music is found there. So there must be some triggers which regulate what music plays for which culture/faction and when (battlefield/campaign). So how do I add music?

P.S. the first question is sort of urgent, so I would rather have that answered than the second.

You can only buy Musica Romana's music by CD. Any site selling digital versions (certainly those Russian music one) are doing it illegally. Put a couple of extra dollars/pounds/rubles/whatever in for shipping and handling and support a terrific group that has done a lot for EB and our fans' enjoyment by letting us use some of their music in the mod for free.

Thanks for the response :beam:; I was hoping one of the top EB Team members answered the Musica Romana question, as they seem to be the only ones who know significant info about the group in here.

Oh well, too bad the group does not use any online places, as that immensely facilitates the distribution. And yes, I do (for the first time in my life, me being a pirate) wish to support Musica Romana, as they are but a small group who definitely needs the money and I would wish for them to have more finances to more actively engage in music. Not to mention, the work they do rivals EB, and if EB was sold, I would never try get EB illegally.

So I suppose I will order. Any idea how much it costs? And how many albums do they have? Sorry, but their website is slightly confusing me, as I see two albums mentioned (Symphonica Panica and Pugnate!). However, just yesterday I though I saw four mentioned... And the catalogue they distribute their stuff through is in German, without a hint of an English version... Oh, and seems to be based in Germany, and I currently reside in Florida :dizzy:. International shipping fees :dizzy::dizzy:.

I think they had earlier releases that are no longer available. They are also on facebook (you can be a "fan of" them there - just search Musica Romana and add them), by the way. You also get color liner note booklets with the CD's too. And yes, it is more difficult to get their music in the U.S. since they are in Germany, but we just don't have those type of groups here really, and they put a lot of their time and effort into research and performing for reenactment groups too. Thanks for posting and asking about them too!

Alright, so I go to the catalogue, (http://www.emmuty.de/cgi-bin/catalog.cgi) but it is still in German. Google Translate helped out, as I used it to translate the page, only to be confronted with the fact that I will pay 15 Euro shipping for three CDs (that is how many albums apparently Musica Romana has) as well as 12 and 17 Euro for the two CD-albums they currently have in stock (third one is out of stock). I have the money, and plenty of it for a teen, but the reason I have it is because I save, instead of spending it on any impulses.

I wonder if eBay will have Musica Romana. Used CDs I suppose.

???

Are they a music group, or what? If it is no longer commercially available, could they at least release it in public domain?? I mean, heck, not even torrent sites have their music, so niche it is.

Whatever the reason is, there's no reason to get indignant about it. It's their choice - I don't know for sure that they did, but maybe their style evolved and they didn't think the first one was as good, maybe they redid the songs on it on a later one, maybe they just didn't like what they named it. What does that matter? If you like it, want it, and are willing to pay for it, then please do. Don't complain about it here though - I think I've made that clear elsewhere.

Nah, its not that. Online chat poorly conveys the true tone of one's speech. I simply puzzled at the seeming irrationality.

No, CA wouldn't allow it, just think about it, the EB team making money on CA's Engine.

Yeah, I remember that thread. Apparently in Malaysia, some renegade members of the EB Team released EB II three-four years before its Euro-American release...

Well, how did they want to pay for that? when I can download EB for free? Well, I know that not everyone got internet acess in south asia, but at least, giving a copy of EB for friends with a "price" as high as two or three bowls of meatballs or instant noodles is what did I do....

Just search through all the .txt files for the name of one of the files. Your computer is good at this.

What file? That is what I am attempting to get from this thread - a name for the txt file which regulates music and when it plays. One cannot search not knowing the destination "No wind is favourable..."

Nice sarcasm :(

Any sound file that is used in the game. You said you knew where the folder was. Pick any. Search for its name.

Edit: For instance, I found EB_Easter_Greek_Battle_Theme.mp3 and searched for it in all the .txt files. And voila, it tells me that it's referenced in the descr_sounds_music.txt file. It's how I find everything in the mod which I haven't worked on before.

Ahh, I see. Thanks

I may have other questions about the file soon, but for now, I am off to check it...

What? Musica Romana? Lol, no, I was speaking of that file bovi told me about. I was going to go check it and not Musica Romana. Musica Romana was supposed to be a present for my Latin/Roman History professor, but looks like it is a present too expensive for me to make...

What does it cost?
Or is it just a lot of money because you live in Russia/Florida?

Yes, it is partially because of my location. All albums but the newest and largest one ("Pugnate!" or "Fight!") cost 12 Euro. The "Pugnate!" is 17. Shipping to Netherlands is I believe 5 Euro. Or go here (http://www.emmuty.de/cgi-bin/catalog.cgi).

Aww, the catalogue is in German. And this was my first year I learned German, and then my teacher had something with his heart and so I only had half year german :shame:
Well, I'll look if Google Translate can help , maybe I'll give it as a present to my latin teacher next year, maybe...

EDIT: One of my Latin/Greek teachers could be one of the Rhomaioktonoi, he hates Rhomaioi and loves Hellenikoi and Makedonia, so I don't think he'll be happy with it :(

You are supposed to understand Deutsch - you are Dutch! ANd yes, I used Google Translate. Click the green button and it will take you to the catalog.

Well, in the university I go to, they have Greek and a Roman expert. The first one speaks Ancient Greek and the second one speaks Classical Latin. I have only taken the classes of the Roman bloke. The other one, from what I heard, seems more like Rhomaioktonoi as well. That said, it is no reason to not listen to Ancient Music, which they will enjoy immensely.
