View Full Version : Miotas?

What happened to him? I know he got well, you-know-what, mods, and then got banned. Following that, he sent me a PM informing he was rightfully banned for his inappropriate behaviour as reflected in some Backroom thread.

He is not on the One-Week or Perma-ban list. But the two-day ban expired, the one which forbids access to his profile. Now he still has the "-" instead of his UserTitle and "Member", but at the same time his profile is open for visit. Stranger still, one cannot VM him. That is what happens to perma-banned people, save for the "-".

May any mod please care to explain? Or is this information not public, in which case, forget all I said - what is private, should be private.

I think he got a bit drunk and made some stupid posts.

I've no idea what's going on when it comes to viewing profiles. From what I remember, I never used to be able to access someone's used page whenever they were banned. But now with Miotas, as well as Vuk and MasterPhantom (guy that was recently instaggibed), I can view their profiles, but they appear as a guest and still have the "-" where it should say "member".

I've only noticed this since the site recovered from the recent crashes, maybe that has something to do with it?

*facepalm* I know that! Read my previous post carefully! I was trying to protect miotas' prestige/image.

Vuk put in "-" as his user title, but he still has the "Member" below it. Anyone can do that. Banned people have "-" instead of both the UserTitle and the rank ("member"). Thus, my name would look like this if I was banned:
Aemilius Paulus.....instead of what Vuk has:.......Aemilius Paulus
....... - ..................................................-
...........................................................Member

Hmm, odd, I just checked miotas, and as you said, he is not like Vuk... Before, he used to have that one dash, but now he has a dash andinstead of the UserTitle the rank, e.g. "Member".

I'd like to propose a total moratorium on these "why did x get banned?" or "please unban y" threads.

Better yet, make warnings and bans a completely private matter. The rules are posted and clear. Staff has accepted the responsibility of enforcement. Public threads invite pointless unnecessary drama, as we have seen. It's not like such discussions will (or should) have any effect on a decision that has been made. This would effectively eliminate the tactic of trying to influence patrons against the administration by creating a spectacle here in the Tower.

If I'm not mistaken, the intent of the OP is not to question or complain about miotas' enforced vacation, but a query about the effects on his profile and account. With the recent reboot of the boards, there may be some banhammer aspects that are different than they were before, so I can see this as a valid query.

Of course, that will not stop this thread from turning into a mod witchhunt and spamfest... ~D

My post isn't criticizing the OP or his intent. It was triggered by and is related to Whacker's comment.

These are conversations, and conversations are seldom linear. Topics wiggle a bit; it's natural.

Yes, thank you

I am merely asking what happened to him, not why he was banned or that he should be unbanned. Miotas himself took the ban very honourably and did not object to it. What was the duration of his ban though? I am his friend, and he is a bully EB Taverner, so I am not about to ignore his disappearance.

The terms/details of any ban/infraction are between the member in question and the administration. If the member should see fit to make this public then that is his/her decision.

We (or at least, I) know how it is, Caravel. A couple of us were commenting on how we think it might be improved, for the better of the Org as a whole, in our respective opinions.

I do not wish the details; just when he will come back. That has nothing to do with privacy, just when I can expect him back, as he is my pretty close friend as far as online friendships go. Duration of the bans have always been publicly announced.

They have?

To me it's always been like people disappear silently and then some day they may or may not come back.
Like Byzantine Prince, I always wondered where he might have gone and just two days ago or so I read here that he was banned.
This isn't really criticism, I just wouldn't know where such things are being written down if they are.

I actually do not remember such a ban...

I just checked, there was no permanent ban of Byzantine Prince. He received several infractions at various points that likely would have resulted in temporary auto-bans, but nothing more. The last infraction he got was in September 2006 and he continued posting as late as June 2007. There were no infractions between September 2006 and June 2007, so it looks to me like he just drifted away on his own.

~:)

My eyes were squared from fatigue when I read this.

I was paged on my profile a while back about this and saw nothing, odd to see this issue.

Temp bans, caused by receiving infractions, are not announced. It's a quiet private thing, lasting a few days only. I don't see why extra embarrassment should be added by posting about it.

A longer, manual ban is announced, but not a ban of spam accounts and/or dodging alts. By those I mean alts from an already banned user who registers several extra accounts to continue the crusade.

The member has changed their custom user title to "-". It is as simple as that.

Yes, I mentioned it before a couple of times. Once pertaining to Vuk, and then to Miotas.

For some reason the utter succintness of Tosa's "Uh?" struck me as funny.

I really should get oout more.

More drama. What then? Lurk on the forum to see what is said about their being "banned"? Hoo-boy, some people need to get a life...

And some a sense of humor! :P I am one of the people who changed my custom user title to "-". I did it for fun to see if people would realise it or think I was banned. It was meant to be humorous...not dramatic.

Yes, some people seem to find much enjoyment in creating more unnecessary work for Tosa & other staff members, but hey, as long as you're having fun that's what's important...

lol, how did that create anymore work for anyone? The only reason that he had to respond is because I really was temp banned! He would have had to answer anyway. Chill.

It might create work when other members, understandably not realising that it was a "joke", create threads in the watchtower enquiring as to the status of the member in question?

So, Mister Grizzly, I see you managed to get out of your straightjacket again?

I think another dose of Tosa's Org valium (tm) and a week in isolation is needed here.

Just so no one thinks I'm a bit of a :daisy:, I would just like to say that I wasn't having a joke, I was actually on a 2 day ban, and presumably a victim of the gl-glitch mentioned here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=120152).
