I recall that the newer Sweboz "faction director" wasn't satisfied with the historical basis of some past units and had them taken out. That could well be one of them.

Yes I'm pretty sure they are. The "Night Raiders".

I'm wondering on that axemen you see alot, seems like a two handed axemen was a Sweboz unit earlier.

From the Germanic archer description it says weapons were an indicator of status and ordinary tools like bow and axe weren't used a lot because of that which means low numbers of archers and axemen.

I'm wondering then why the axemen got removed but the archer didn't? The unit slot limit or other reasons? :book:

Bows might have not be commonj in armies they were definately used. 2 Handed axes, well I'm not sure whether they were used. Either way Almost every unit of the Sweboz have been redone after the departure of an old Sweboz faction historian. The new historians working on it didn't feel pleased with the units and most if not all were redone. Though not every unit changed that much or got replaced.

IIRC the two handed axemen got removed because their weapon of choice wasn't around until after EB's time period, like Saxon times or someting like tat.

Viking times in fact AFAICR, the Daneaxe is a truly fearsome weapon.

Bit excessively focused on the offense by all accounts, though.

Ofcourse it was around, they weren't hacking wood with spears. :clown:

Axes especially made to fight probably weren't around, and form the archer unit descriptions it also says they were around.

It is, you have this Viking Live Metal Fighter on Youtube, Skallagrimm, he uses one alot, it isn't weird for a non sharp one to crush an shield. :inquisitive: And on Deadliest Warrior, the Longaxe test scared the crap out of me. :skull:

Ofcourse it was around, they weren't hacking wood with spears. :clown:Standard woodworking axes and the broad-bladed "Danish" axes aren't terribly closely related AFAIK, you know.

Anyway, the latter is pretty emphatically a late Viking era weapon.
