View Full Version : Debate: - Do you think the Evony ad's are a bit innapropriate?

We've all seen them, even on this site. Off to the very left of the screen, you notice a woman's hair. You proceed to scroll down, seeing that she has (excuse me if I am out of line here) beautiful breasts, with only a semi-transparent shirt covering them.
This is becoming an increasingly viral ad campaign, and has drawn a lot of criticism from reviewers, particularly due to the fact that many of the sites are inhabited by children-teens mostly (like TWCenter).
The worst part:
You click on it, and find some boring sim game with no breasts!
So do you think that these ad's are going a bit far? I mean, trust me, I love breasts and women, but it seems to be inappropriate for sites with younger members, and just overall indecent to look at repeatedly.
Debate.

It's laughably stupid. Plus I heard in the Arena forum that they've stolen a bunch of art assets from other games.

Anyway, popcap had a good parody of the ads:

Artist rendered breasts are still nowhere as satisfying as the real deal, and the last thing I want to be worried about when in the presence of such nicely shaped breasts, is what my xp rating is.
Anyways, there has always been a lot of erotism in rpg games. I am sure I am not the only one who let's their heroines run around in their underwear.

Evony. Never heard of it 'til now. All I get here are Pizza Hut & superPages ads.
Following some of the Google hits about the game and its ads, it seems they've copped images from lingerie' and costume 'net sites. A little bit o'photoshopping et viola: rpg babe. LOL.

If your environment sports many sexy-outfitted girls, most of adult males start talking about protecting children from "obscenity". But the opposite is also true, in my case, when in your environment, there was almost no girls wearing something "exsposed" clothings (in my case... well u know from my sig :laugh4:), you will treat "hot babe pictures" as a real gift from God...
Oh, no religious pun intended, just express that if u are exsposed with many sexy girls in reality, u will think protective for the children in the internet, but if your reality there was almost none girls wearing sexy outfit.... let the children discovers it by accident... it was good otherwise...

this is hilarious!
Like I said before guys, it's not like I don't like breasts. Because I do. It's just that I don't want to have to focus my attention on the left side of my screen when I am trying to compile my thoughts. If I wanted to see breasts, I would pull up porn.

I don't know what to think of it.
The first set of ads was just cheesy - but showing just a pair of breasts in lingerie for a fantasy strategy game is so incredibly pathetic that is manages to cross the border to ironic hilarity.
In the end Evony is just the kind of ugly skin rash that a modern free society unfortunately has to live with as a side effect of general liberty.

The problem is it's an ad for a game with no hot chicks whatsoever. It's not false advertising, but it also just ain't right.

Heh, first time I have heard of this. Ever since I have gotten AdBlockPlus, I have stopped seeing any ads, especially those annoying washed-up prostitute ads which literally plaster the pages of illegal download sites...
And there is nothing odd about Evony, now that I read about it. Kelvin Klein adds are notorious enough to be mentioned in every psychology book that I own. The history of sex appeal in advertisements goes as far as 1800s when all the tobacco products would feature nude exotic models of the female persuasion, and usually of the Ameri-Indian physiognomy. Or more humorously, bare-chested men, usually of military occupation on the soap ads, no doubt aimed at the housewives.

Nothing wrong there. One should advertise at maximum efficiency, and sexual appeal always works. You may say "Oh well, that sickens me", but to someone silly enough to play the game in the first place, the ad is irresistible.

always works?
I'm not so sure... When a game is so desperate that they go to all means to get customers, it scares me away...
dont get me wrong, I LOOOOOVE boobs, also in commercial. But when completely uncalled for, I cant help but ponder why they must go to such drastical means, and also, I wonder what there customer base look like *yew*

As I have said, anyone who plays that game/ will play it is probably not on the same intellectual level. It may scare you away, but a simpler mind, or a 13-year old will simply say "Booooobs - must seeeee!"

Well, had you seen the ad a day before your 14th birthday, you had probably not started the thread but signed up instead. ~;)
I also love the PopCap ads, the Evony ones really look a bit too good to be true, but I get the impression that's a bit of a trend nowadays.

I haven't seen the evony ads for a while, now all I see is the miracle weight loss stuff.
Don't know if anyone else noticed but in one of the ones here they got the 'before' and 'after' pics mixed up, talk about advertising fail. :sweatdrop:

Makes sense I suppose, what better way to lose excess weight than shooting yourself so full of drugs you pass out and can't eat for days!
Obesity and drug abuse have always been problems with the chav population, why not use one problem to fight the other...

chav? whats chav?
UK slang, not too dissimilar from a whigger. Emphasized traits are showiness, dullness, bad taste, lower-class background, and generally inappropriate behaviour.
and being 13 doesnt mean anything. i just turned 14 in april, and i started the thread.
I would tend to disagree. First of all, "13-year old" is a generic term for a young, tween or teen, immature children. Secondly, it is quite simple to spot a 13-year old online. Usually. By their poor bearing and rapport.
I see those all the time, always some blonde chick with boobs the size of her head with the msg nearby saying "save the princess" or something like that. Not as bad as a ad for this one mmorpg tho, where its basically a women in her panties and bra on her knees with her hands chained above her head and the ground being covered in snow.

Okay, that's it...
https://img43.imageshack.us/img43/3179/newbitmapimagemer.png (https://img43.imageshack.us/i/newbitmapimagemer.png/)
between this one and the advertisement that's JUST a pair of tits they've gone too far. There's nothing fantasy-related about this, and the only people they will attract with advertisements like this WON'T be looking for an MMO. In fact, I would venture to say that this will actually hurt their subscriptions because people won't even know what they're clicking on, and they will be sorely disappointed when they do.

Again, such an ad only scares me away... Not so much cause of the ad itself, but by imagining what kind of people I would play with..
If I clicked it I'd be like: "DAMN, thought it was pr0n!"
