Alrite ik you guys probably get alot of these problems regarding game installation etc.

Idk what I did wrong but I followed the instructions provided on this board this is the first mod ive ever tried to download for rtw. I was getting sick of vanilla and decided to get EB.

I have windows vista OS. I have RTW gold but I did not install BI. So everything was clean when i installed it no prior mods or EB files or anything of that nature. It was patched to 1.5 so that was all good. I downloaded 1.1 and 1.2 and made backup files of rtw and put them in under my user files and not in program files as suggested by the help thread. When I began installation and it asked which file I picked the copy of the rtw 1.5 that I put under my user files. I installed it then did the same with the 1.2 patch and installed it to the EB file in the rtw 1.5 file.

When i went to the start menu and then EB play it goes straight to vanilla and idk why.

Did I do something wrong if so what and how can I fix it?

I really want to play this mod because it looks amazing and very interesting

Ill appreciate any help i can get

Oh and one more question whats the difference between EB and Rome Total War Realism?

Thanks

Make a shortcut to RTW (Vanilla), and under properties, in the Target box, type

-show_err -mod:eb

At the very end of it. Then use the shortcut.

As for the difference between EB and RTR, it's the fact that they are different mods, really. Try them both out, and pick whichever you like best.

I made a shortcut of vanilla..this is what was listed as the target in properties before I did anything to it

"C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe"

Idk what u meant by "at the very end of it" I pasted what u put at the end of it and it looked like this

"C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe-show_err -mod:eb"

It said it wasnt valid and didnt let me apply it

"C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err -mod:eb

Try that.

The invalid error message didnt come up and i was able to apply ti but it still went straight to vanilla. I was looking at the EB play shortcut that wa sin my start menu after i installed it and here was the target and start location

target-------"C:\Users\Gavin\RTW\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_error

start in ------- "C:\Users\Gavin\RTW\Rome - Total War"

I installed rtw to program files the creative assembly but i made a new folder and copied those files and put them in my user area and thats where i installed EB too.

Does that help u at all?

also thanks for ur help so far

Well, if EB wasn't in the CA folder, then that wouldn't have done any good.

"C:\Users\Gavin\RTW\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_error -mod:eb

Should work.

"C:\Users\Gavin\RTW\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -ne"
Not sure if it would make a difference but try that instead.

Has EB installed correctly, look in your Rome - Total War folder is there a folder called EB?

You might need to reinstall EB. Just make a copy of your clean RTW install in the users folder and the install EB to that.

Edit:nevermind from the looks of your picture EB has installed in the program files version which probably is causing the problem. Install it on the RTW in your users folder and it should work.

okay well i did that last time and it didnt work but maybe i did it wrong. let me just tell u wat i did.

I copied the RTW folder and put in inside a new folder in my user area and then I simply installed the files too there... Now should I still leave the original RTW without EB in the program fiels will that affect anything?

No it shouldn't do anything. The picture you posted shows that EB installed in the program files version of RTW are you certain it is in the Users folder version too? (sorry to go on about it but good to be absolutely sure)

If it has and its still not working i'll just put down how I install EB to see if that helps

1. Install RTW in a folder not in program files ( in my case it went into "C:\Games")

2. Patch up to 1.5

3. Make copy of Rome - Total War folder so you have a backup if anthing goes wrong (in my case i just have it in the same folder as the orginal)

4. Install EB in the Rome - Total war folder ("C:\Games\Rome - Total War")

5. Install the EB 1.2 patch and other fixes

6. I open the folder EB installed in, find the RTW.exe (C:\Games\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe) and make a shortcut for it .

7. I open up the properties menu for the shortcut and put in the target box
"C:\Games\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -ne
and put in the start in box
"C:\Games\Rome - Total War "

This should work but if it still doesn't have a read of this to see if there's anything you/I missed out https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=80270

Well i uninstalled everything and reinstalled it that time in the program files because I didnt think keeping it in the user files would fix the problem but im not so sure.

Now everything is uninstalled and a clean slate. I have it patched to 1.5 since its from gold edition. I have a games folder but RTW vanilla is still installed in program files. I can make a copy and either put it in user files or my game folder on my desktop correct? and then install EB to the copy.

Does that all sound good cause if so I can do that easily.

Now the thing with the short cut is where im not so sure. What do i have to put as the target and start box. Itll probably depend on whether I picked the game folder or user files to make a copy and install EB too.

Yep that should work. Remember to check that the copy is called "Rome - Total War" and not "Copy of Rome - Total War" or something which happens sometimes.

For the target box say you installed in something like "C:\Games" this would go in

"C:\Games\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -ne

and the start in box would be

"C:\Games\Rome - Total War "

ps. as an aside you aren't running the game with steam are you?

Okay im gonna make a copy of the original RTW folder and paste it in my games folder on my desktop. Im renaming the original original and keeping the copy "Rome-Total War" like you had. Once I Install EB to it im going to do the thing with the shortcut hopefully it will finally work and I will eb able to play EB if not ill show u what I did.

Thanks for your help

and to ur ps no i am not running it with steam its rtw gold edition but BI isnt installed

I'm baffled. The installer tells you not to install under program files. People here tell you not to install under program files. Yet you think it is the best idea :dizzy2:.

You should run the validation once you've installed EB 1.2 and post the results here. It may have clues as to why it's not running what you expect.
