View Full Version : Pacifist Gauls?
I'm not sure if this is a regular occurence, but in every one of my campaigns the Romans have made the Aedui their protectorate almost immediately. The Aedui will conquer most of the Arverni provinces and one or two other settlements and then, without fail, become a Roman protectorate. Does this always happen? Why?

1-no, only happened once.
2-because the Aedui know better than to mess with the romans. besides, since the romans are no longer an issue, they can turn on their foes, the arverni, and woop rear. once they do so, they will want to keep the romans away, so they suck up to 'em.

I noticed that too. the aedui conquer a way through the alps and as soon as rome reach the po valley, they become clients. One Problem could be the alliances. Rome and Carthage are allied from the start and Carthage has got military access and a strong alliance with the aedui. probably the AI don“t want to loose this...
by the way, i play the rtw.exe

The same is here (rtw and alex exe.). Anyway if i play some faction close to Romani (Carthage mostly) i attack their peninsula to help my green allies :book:

I've noticed it a few times with the Aedui/Romans but also Maks/Epiros, Parthia/Baktria etc, I think it is linked to the AI making peace with itself.
It is kinda strange to see Macedonia become a protectorate of Epiros and then Epiros attacks next turn and so on and so on.

The same was in my last and in my ongoing campaign. But the funny thing was, that the Aedui broke the Alliance with the Romans and allied with Carthage. When the Aedui were allied with Rome, they had about three fullstacks guarding their borders (every protectorate does this) and I thought that they would be more than enough to crush the Romans in northern Gaul. And a few turns later they did it. Great!
btw. I have alex.exe
edit: In my last game with the Casse the Arverni were the roman protectorate.

I also curious of that...
When I play neither Romaioi nor One of The Gauls
1) One of the "Gauls" will become a "good" ally (or Protectorate) to Romaioi, even when they share much land borders, and one of them who aren't allied with Roma, fight "heroically stubborn" and usually get exterminated, except when I decide to help on their behalf.
2) Despite Romaioi should distrust Gauls in history, I get this situation more than once when try to invade "Bar... ops Roma". The armies that try to "relieve" them (by attacking my Roma's garrison) is Gauls...
3) In my lastest Epeirote campaign, I once try to evacuate Roma and leave empty city. Avernii soon take that city and yet, the Romaioi still become their masters (they are still protectorate to Romaioi).
Well, I didn't think anything is wrong with 1 and 2. But with 3, that was totally wrong.... Romaioi should try to take their beloved Roma by force, not by pacifist methods....
