View Full Version : Phalanx Bug?
I encounter a bug everytime I use a phalanx unit, regardless of what kind. Whenever I put them in phalanx mode, instead of putting their spears down, they march around in circles for 20 seconds, stand in a messed up "phalanx" with everyone standing in different directions with theirs spears pointed in different directions, and eventually get into a phalanx after a couple of minutes.
I'm currently using Lz3's Mini-mod with Alexander, RS textures and the phalanx mod add-ons on EB 1.2
I noticed that this will sometimes happen to hoplite units that use the phalanx mod. Could that be the problem?:help:

I'm not sure what you meant with your last sentence, but about the problem of your phalangites turning around I can be quite clear: make sure you do not order them to form a phalanx before they really stand still. If you don't, the captain of the unit is likely to turn the entire unit around so he can get to his beloved place on the left.
If you think you won't have the time to wait until your soldiers stand still before you order them to lower their pikes, have them moving in phalanx formation (first order them to form a phalanx, then order them to move).
I guess the problem you experience is related to the rtw-engine, and can't be solved by the EB-team.
good luck with these pointy sticks,
Andy
Well, that's the thing. Even if the captain is in the right spot and the unit has stopped moving and I click the phalanx button, it still happens. It makes playing Macedonia and Baktria really frustrating :wall::idea2:
Does it happen to anyone else or is it just me?
Edit: Okay well I found out that it happens most when I am attacking a city and when I tell the phalanx to turn

Pathfinding tends to get kooky near walls and buildings, particularly for the phalanxes. The main remedy is to just be really careful with them (eg. not activating the phalanx before they're "back in order" after moving as Andy says), and leaving enough clearance between the unit and any such structures so the pathfinding doesn't get screwy in the first place.
If you order them to stop (backspace key) immediately before ordering them to use phalanx formation, they usually manage to put down the pikes and then adjust their formation. This is not a guaranteed thing though.

The problem Kevin is having isn't a problem really. It's called reformation--when a company of pikemen are ordered to reform the phalanx box, they must arrange themselves before putting pikes down. This can be time consuming, so a simple solution is to select pikemen, turn phalanx on, and press backspace (to halt unit). This will put down pikes of the already-in-place pikemen, and give the few slowpokes enough time to get into gear (i.e. move into position).
