If any word of that is true it means I'll never touch World of Warcraft again. You thought they couldn't fudge up the lore & setting anymore, but apparently there is something beneath the bottom of the barrel for Blizzard.
Jesus...Night Elf Mages & Tauren Paladins.
Worst part is, two years ago I'd sworn this was a hoax, but now I'm not too sure anymore. I'm leaning towards prank (as its sources is somethingawful.com it seems) for now.

It was on joystiq and engadget
I'm gunna say it might be.
They killed enough lore as it is.
Most players are oblivious to the lore. I played for 3 years and I never bothered with it. Few persons I knew did.
There are many reasons why people play WoW and the lore is only one of the minor ones.
Wait, Hyjal isn't released yet? HAHAHAHAHA. I have a vague memory about me and my gang tryingto climb the mountains from the north part of that continent that lead to Hyjal. This was in vanilla WoW. I think this is the same Hyjal we're talking about. I had the idea that Hyjal was released with Burning Crusade (I haven't played WoW in a long long time)

Hyjal hasn't been opened as a zone in Azeroth yet (the one you tried to climb into), it was released as a raid in the Burning Crusade expansion though, set in the past where you fought Archimonde, i.e. to recreate one of the missions in Warcraft 3, sort of...
I am on the fence about this news. It completely kills the lore, but on the other hand for someone who's been out of the game for ages (like me) it does look pretty cool and has lots of "shiny" additions.

Hyjal was released with BC... kinda. It's a special instance in Caverns of Time where you fight Archimonde from Wc3. Blizzard always said they wanted to release another Hyjal (the one on the actual game map, not COT) but never got around to it in the 3 years i was playing.
It will probably be a fun expansion gameplay-wise, but it's still the same formula. I quit early this year. Those features seem somewhat interesting but not enough to get back into it again. WoW feels old now.

Depends if you played on a RP server or not.
Depends if you played on a RP server or not.
True enough.
RP servers represent a small fraction of WoW but with millions of players that could still be a lot of folks.
Thus, it hath been confirmed.
PARIS, France -- August 21, 2009 – Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced plans for the third expansion to World of Warcraft®, its award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). Unveiled at the company’s fourth BlizzCon® gaming festival, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm™ will bring sweeping changes to the world of Azeroth. Players will be able to adventure as two new playable races, achieve new levels of power, take on challenging quests and dungeons in all-new zones, and experience dramatic changes to familiar aspects of the game in the wake of a world-shattering disaster.
“In addition to revitalizing some of the most familiar and iconic areas of the game world, this third World of Warcraft expansion will add new features and a large amount of new content for players to explore,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We’re excited to be offering a first glimpse of Cataclysm for attendees of BlizzCon, and we look forward to sharing more information with everyone as development progresses.”
In Cataclysm, players will witness the face of Azeroth being altered forever, as the corrupted Dragon Aspect Deathwing awakens from his slumber and erupts onto the surface, leaving only ruin and destruction in his wake. As the Horde and Alliance race to the epicenter of the cataclysm, the kingdoms of Azeroth will witness seismic shifts in power, the kindling of a war of the elements, and the emergence of unlikely heroes who will rise up to protect their scarred and broken world from utter devastation.
Building on the foundation established in World of Warcraft and its first two expansions, Cataclysm will add a variety of new content and offer players the opportunity to rediscover Azeroth and experience the game from a whole new perspective. New features coming with the game’s third expansion include:
* Two New Playable Races: Adventure as the cursed worgen with the Alliance or the resourceful goblins with the Horde.
* Increased Level Cap: Advance to level 85 and earn new abilities, tap into new talents, and progress through the path system, a new way for players to customize characters.
* Classic Zones Remade: Quest to level 60 as you never have before. Familiar zones across the original continents of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms have been reforged by the cataclysm and updated with new quests and content.
* Flying Mounts in Azeroth: Explore Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms from a whole new perspective.
* Guild Advancement: Progress as a guild to earn guild levels and guild achievements.
* New High-Level Content: Explore newly opened parts of the world, including Uldum, Grim Batol, and the great sunken city of Vashj'ir beneath the sea, and enjoy even more high-level raid content than in previous expansions.
* New PvP Zone & Rated Battlegrounds: Take on PvP objectives and daily quests in Tol Barad, a new Wintergrasp-like zone, and wage war in all-new rated Battlegrounds.
* Archaeology: Master a new secondary profession to unearth valuable artifacts and earn unique rewards.
* New Race and Class Combinations: Explore Azeroth as a gnome priest, blood elf warrior, or one of the other never-before-available race and class combinations.

I stopped WoW with the release of WotLK. I thought about restarting it with my bro and/or GF, but this whole lore butchering is way too much for me.
As someone who had been enjoying Warcraft lore for years, this is way too much. BC was bad enough (hopefully they did a good job with WotLK), but this? Wow, well done dudes. I wonder how they'll be able to release a Warcraft 4 after that.

WotLK was recycling old heroes and allowing you to kill bosses one really shouldnt be able to. But for me it just made all content too easy.
Illidari should have been a 3rd faction, with Naga, Blood Elves and Broken/Draenei as playable races. All I can say for BC.

That's your opinion. I personnally think a Warcraft MMO without the Plague, Arthas, the Silver Hand and Ronin would have been freaking stupid.
Honestly, I started to trully enjoy WoW when I started to meet known characters. Before that, WoW was just a good MMO.
I mean, they could just have made a new fantasy franchise, be done with it. It would probably have been a successful MMO, but the whole reason I bought it was the name: "World of Warcraft".
Furthermore, I don't see why players shouldn't be allowed to kill well-known characters. A guy who went through the whole leveling process achieved much more than Anu'barak, Kel'Thuzad, Arthas, Kael'thas and Illidan altogether.
As for the easy content, I cannot say. I've stopped raiding right after I killed 10-people Kel'Thuzad, and I indeed found Naxxramas easy as hell, compared to prenerf BC. My friends (who were less casual than me) told me the hard mode for some bosses were really difficult though.

There should have been a 3rd faction right from the start. Adding the forsaken to the horde was silly. Now, a whole part of the lore is focused on trying to make it seem that they've betrayed the Horde though they're technically still part of it.

Regarding difficulty: I stopped after a few 10-man Kel'Thuzad, Malygos & Sartharion. I still keep in touch with friends of mine and from what they have told, Blizzard has even nerfed hardmode in Ulduar and whatever the new thing is.

I was more talking about bringing back heroes that were supposed to be dead: Mal'Ganis & Muradin Bronzebeard to name some.
From what friends told me, hardmode has been nerfed too now.
I don't see WoW as being part of the lore, tbh. I see WoW as some sort of Warcraft amusement park where you can bash well known characters and wander and discover the cities that are part of the universe, while all you do (And all other players of WoW) doesn't have, in fact, any impact in the Warcraft Lore. That's my opinion, at least.

I thought the developers where making an MMO based more on Diablo but decided Warcraft had the bigger brand name. It isn't about literacy, lore or literal interpretations of the name World of Warcraft it is about the Golden Rule... he who has the gold makes the rules. Or when it comes to lore: What sells more is lore.

That was incredibly insightful considering WoW's track record.
