I got 28 provinces and its basically unplayable. Every turn requires me to move a dozen of spies(for no particular reason), a dozen of diplomats(for no particular reason), a dozen of armies(to combat rebels), and a couple of generals(dying, coming to age, leading armies, transporting bonuses etc).

That in addition to managing cities, the only part i would actually like to do, because all the above is really pointless. Any solutions? Wouldnt mind mods too.

Medieval II any better in this?

I think Med II might actually be worse...

there isnt much I know of to combat this, but I try to make it seem like less work by playing all the battles. But if you already do this and and are still bogged down with trivialities, I dont know what to say. A total war break, maybe?

I don't understand why you're moving all these characters if there's no point. Everything you do should have a point. If not, park them somewhere and let them die of old age, or die with a tiny stack of helpless militia.

Turn off auto-train. Only train agents that you know you're going to use. The only problem I have with them is that I don't know yet if there's a shortcut to bring up the agent only parchment. Also I hate the fact that I can't scroll the parchments like in MTW.

The 25-30 states area is sort of the peak of your micromanagement - after that, you can ignore big areas of the world and just continue your advancement.

Thanks. Too bad Med II is worse. They apparently go the same road Civ-X went, with all these Whac-A-Mole injections.(gone in Civ4. No rebels, no squalor, no diplomats, no spies anymore.)
