While I'm waiting to not illegally download an episode of Top Gear, I wanted to gush about it.

Who here watches the show?

While it lacks the powerful grease monkey appeal of many American car shows, it has many great traits. I suppose Clarkson, Hamster, and Slow prefer to leave the manual labor to the lower classes. The show is clever, fast, and wonderfully British. I love the slang. You won't find many other shows that are in their 13th season and do the things they do.

There is one thing that Top Gear has that no one can dream of acquiring. Some say he was conceived when a Jaguar rear ended a Mini. Others say he looks like [some British celebrity I don't know doing something I've never hear of]. All we know is that he's called The Stig.

Im not even paticularly intrested in cars and clarkson views are quite different from mine on a number of issues...

But top gear is a class show... i will always enjoy and have a few laughs watching the show... its quite an achievment considering im not really intrested in the subject of the show...

I understand one of its advantadges is it can slag off cars more freely than other shows as it doesn't have to cosy up to any advertisers...

It's enjoyable because I don't know any other TV series that does such crazy or outrageous things and get paid to do it.

I watch it every time I can get BBCA.

You should have seen it thirty years ago mate, dire is a compliment for those programs. It's changed beyond all recognition since those days. They used to actually test drive the latest Lada, Skoda, British Leyland crap that was all around.

I mean, c'mon how the hell does a Ford Fiesta MK I handle, compared to say an Austin Maxi (in beige of course) make you want to rush out and spend £2000 on a pile of crap that passed for a motor in the 70s. I only watched it because it was on BBC 2 on a Sunday evening and the alternative was Songs of Praise on BBC 1 and Hart to Hart on ITV. (Only 3 channels in those bygone days :laugh4:)

It got a lot better when Clarkson first appeared. He slagged off all these piles of shite, calling a spade a digging impliment. A true Yorkshireman. Blimey twenty years already!

Clarkson left in 99 and it went to pot. When he came back they started with the format we all know and love. I like it.

I loved the show when I was living there in 98-99. Clarkson was great - pompous, egotistical, sarcastic, and unapologetic about any of it. Not having to kiss up to advertisers frees the show to be what a review show is supposed to be.

Now that I get BBC America, I should probably start watching again. :2thumbsup:

Top Gear is one of my favorite shows. I don't even particularly care about cars that much, it's just great entertainment. I'm hopeful that BBC America HD will be picked up by my carrier soon.
