Hello,
I tried playing a little STW:WE with my brother, but rant into a problem. Neither of one of us could see the other's game listed. It didn't matter which hosted the game.
Yet, we could see games hosted by other players.
I haven't attempted to MP in a long time, and remember wayyy back there was a similar issue with folks not seeing games.
Using v1.02b, Win2000, ATI Radeon 7500, cable w. switch and behind firewall; disabled NAV. My brother has a notebook, don't remember his specs.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Are you both using the same connection to log on?
Or are u in different locations?

And do you both have the firewall on? That is no doubt the main reason for the problem. Turn off the firewall and you should be ok.
If you're in the same location, as long as you have two different lines connecting you to the internet you should be ok.
And NAVAP does not need to be disabled - you should turn it back on.

Thanks for the replies
We are in diffirent locations, separated by thousands of miles. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif
I'm behind a firewall, I'll have to check about him.
Turn "off" my firewall?? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
Hmm....forgot to mention "I'm" behind TWO firewalls. One software, the other 'hardware'.
I'll need to check with him, if we are BOTH behind walls then that may indeed be it; but if not then it must be something else. As we we're both able to see other people's games.
Get back to you guys. THANKS

Just 1 thing.... Im sure u do, but, just to check, u do both have the latest patch, yes?
But sounds like a strange problem. Have u asked other people in the lobby if they can see your games when u host?

Actually the problem is common.
Firewalls are the main culprits when it comes to not being able to see games. But it isn't your fault if you can't see someone elses game, it depends upon the host. I cannot host any games while I have my firewall active, but I can join all of them.
Most likely, the two of you have firewalls. One of you must decide to be the host, and that person must deactivate his firewall(s).
Having a firewall on your hardware I'm presuiming means you are running XP. You can deactivate this but unfortunately I don't know how since I'm on ME.

Yes, we both installed v.102b.
No, I'm still running win2000. My cable connection is run through a router/switch which includes a firewall. In addition, I have a software firewall running on my system.
My brother is not sure what his situation is. He's sorta house sitting for an old girlfriend who has a xdsl connection thru work. We're not sure if its VPNed to her works gateway and then thru another gateway out to the net or what. If so, certainly a firewall as well as other security is involved.
Well, for me, next week, I'll experiment with setting up a DMZ outside the router/switch's firewall and then decide wether to disable the software firewall or use some other method. Ugghh
Really wish I had another good machine to run STW/MTW on that I could put into the DMZ.
Thanks again.
