As you may know RTW has Miles sound provider that is claimed to create some crashing issues both with RTW and with other games as well.

I will just write my experience on Vista 32Bit.
After my Alexander EB collapsed I had reinstalled everything from the beginning after I got an error message regarding miles error (mss32.dll -something like that).

I opened a campaign in RTW vanilla before installing BI, alex, and EB.
I have deactivated miles sound provider and changed with ...

AUDIO_3D_PROVIDER:DirectSound3D Software Emulation though in its explanation it claims low quality sound I could not find much difference. (I have a b....s..t headphone may be because of it :laugh4:) anyway...
Later I installed EB 1.1 , 1.2 , minimod pack, my conversions (mods)....

at the first time in my life I have played more than 4 hours without crashing.
I just want to confirm by you it really worth trying or it is a just coincidence?

Your experiences will be appreciated.

Regards

Atra

I'd say it is a coincidence. No crash I've seen indicates that the sound is causing it.

Miles is a bread & butter sound library for games of all sorts. As a core component (abstraction layer & back end) to an engine, hardly the sort of thing many different companies would be willing to ship as the default for their products if it were so unreliable.

Odd, I had three rare crashes involving sound. Or so the Windows Error Reporting said.

Thanks for all.
Coincidence or not I am quite happy at the moment to play EB more than 4 hours

Which other conditions were in play? Was it the AI turn, was it a post-battle crash, a revolt, something else?
