hi EB team,
I realise this question has been asked before, including in the FAQ thread where the answer was 'no, because CA did not include this feature in the main game'. However, that answer doesn't really satisfy, as we are able to run hotseats in vanilla M2TW and its mods simply by altering the preference file, so I ask again:
Will EBII be compatible with M2TW's hotseat mode (if such mode is enabled in the preference file)?
I am interested in running a hotseat campaign here at the Org in the Throne Room where we have hosted several such games using different M2TW mods - I loved EB and to host an EBII game would be a great pleasure.

Yes, it must, hardcoded.

There could be problems with those different scripted events/triggers that occur in a campaign with 'choosen' faction.
I know that in the german MTW2-Mod Reconquista were to many scripted events to successfully run a hotseat.
But probably one is able, to reduce those scripted reforms, f.e. that there occur no reforms and scripted events in a hotseat-mode - which would make a hotseatmode playable. But I'm not into modding, so just hope for the best. :-)

I ran a hotseat using Broken Crescent where we had a problem with scripted events (eg. factions getting extra stacks that were intended only for the AI). We were able to work around them in-game (with some creativity), so long as we were able to anticipate them (we were familiar with the script).
Hopefully this will also be the case with EBII..

As Far As I Know: a hotseat campaign is the campaign equivalent of a multiplayer battle: you play a campaign against other (human) opponents.

Hotseat is a multiplayer mode in which the players play on the same computer, thus it's most often used in turn-based games.

Come to the Throne Room (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=38) and find out for yourself! There are several games going on there and threads describing how it is done.
There's currently a game about to start in the mod Broken Crescent, which needs players, if you want to try it out for yourself.
Note: you don't have to use the same computer, you can upload the save game file and each player takes his turn at home before saving and uploading for the next guy.
IMO hotseat is the best TW experience available - you get to play against someone with a brain for a change, instead of the AI, which makes it much more challenging! Plus diplomacy is actually possible..
Only drawback is the game moves slowly.

Wouldn't that just be playing-by-email, hmh?
Afaik the "hotseat" refers to the one supposed seat which both players share in turns to play their turns...

:laugh4:or instead of emailing each other, you can use xfire and just send it to him via that... way much quicker, and u can see each other playing with broadcast and talk to each other via xfire chat in game :)
Omg, if there is hotseat in EB2.,..

If there's just a couple of you then MSN or x-fire can work well.
If you want to participate in a grand campaign with several players (we had 13 players at the start of the Broken Crescent Hotseat, which ran for 18 months), it's best to use a file upload site.
There is an upload feature here at the Org, but it's a bit unreliable so we tend to use mediafire or rapidshare, something like that.
We don't use email except for emergencies (like when the org was down!)
Stop by the Throne Room and check it out - we have in-character diplomacy, and story threads for battle reports, and AAR-style writing related to the games.
isn't EBII going to be a kingdoms mod?

It is.
Phonics is right, hotseats are great., one of the best ways to play the game. I'd have given up on all non-EB playing long ago without them, and would likely only play EB2 sparingly (when it comes out) if it lacks a hotseat function.

I rather not fight battles in hotseat mode. Honestly, the AI is so bad...
