Hi, I'm quite new to EB. When I played RTW Realism I don't ever remember having my armies starve. In my first campaign I would receive messages that my armies are starving (through faction messages) at the beginning of each season. I imagine that is more realistic. However, where can I see the status of the army supplies and how it will impact the battle. When I finally went to battle my armies routed despite being twice as large.
Thanks,
Charles

You can see it in your general traits or faction message. It affects morale of your troops.

But some factions like Sweboz and Nomads do not starve. Only under the siege. And the armies without FM do not starve too.

Armies without FM's are led by captains, and they can't have traits. Remember, you may not get the negative traits, but you'll also won't get the positive traits that boost the performance of your units if you use only captains.
The trigger for poorlysuplied checks among other things for the trait Forager and Tsuanon; if your FM has one of those traits, your men wont get hungry.
Factions that can get the Forager trait: Sauromatae, Saka (funny, in the trait files they're still called Yuezhi) and Sweboz.
Sauromatae can also get the Tsuanon trait.

I usually have a FM stand on the border of my territory till it's time to attack then I simply move into the army and start the battle.
Sounds like an exploit to me, and apparently, it is possible that you will not be able to do that in EBII because of the frequent desertions of captain-led armies in M2TW.

Yes, desertion. In M2TW armies led by captains will suddenly decide to leave their well paid posts and join the enemy after just a couple of turns. Makes no sense at all, but hey, this is the creative assembly we are talking about.

I haven't played M2TW, but I believed that desertion is the same as in crusades in MTW - number of men in units slightly decreases during march. That would be quite reasonable for captain lead armies.

hmmm i don't think it is like that mtw2 .. was playing SS mod a week or two back and did not notice that .. did have a full stack lead by a captain "vanish" though . :furious3:

Also, if your faction leader has low "Authority" than Captains and Generals with low loyalty will defect to the rebels. It seems too common in M2TW vanilla, but it can be tweaked with proper work in the traits.

This only happens when you have a FM join a Crusade - there is a certain probability that your FM led army will have some desertions if he ends the turn further away from the target city than at the beginning of the turn. This caused me problems when the path-finding on the campaign map gets a little confused

It does happen outside of crusades as well, sometimes stacks led by captains or unloyal family members will revolt to the rebels. It always seemed to happen more when they were futher away from cities as well.
