The real question is, what do you do when tourists start spamming?

Tourists are only allowed to spam if they use the approved language.
Spammish

What do you do when mods are the ones spamming?
I didn't expect a Spammish Inquisition...
Sorry, couldn't resist.
I'd politely PM them (as I would to a regular patron too) about the spam if it is truly disrupting the discussion. I'd also ignore the comment as most people are fond of doing to my nonsensical posts. However, I thought the "spam" was well timed attempts at humour if it is the posts I think you are referring to. There is a point where you can take a joke too far, but often people have different ideas as to where that line is.

You can report the moderator in question to TosaInu.
It'll have to be in the secret .Org language we'll be introducing from the 10th of octobre though. After that date we'll won't accept posts or complaints in any other language.
Can I consider this my very own Mith-gate? Can I, Can I?! :jumping:

It doesn't matter if they're indigenous or not. Either way, a single camel is worth far more than any one of us. Such magnificent creatures cannot be measured by mere earthly standards.

Mithrandir made a brilliant joke that was very much to the point.
Just think about it.
Who the **** cares about the fate of tourists when the fate of those who live there, permanently, is so seriously prejudiced by legislation? Instead of calling the imbecile by his nam, Mithrandir demonstrated the imbecility of the question by repeating it as if it had never been answered.

If you have a problem with a particular mod you can either (politely, preferably) take your concerns up with the mod in question or to TosaInu.
My daughter rode a camel in Australia. :turtle: <- pretend this is a camel
I rode a camel when I was five at the zoo. The fact that they had "camel rides" next to "horse rides" made the job quite boring for the camel handlers I imagine, but hey it was pretty fun.
Gregoshi

My daughter's ride was 30-45 minute ride in the Outback at Uluru (Ayers Rock). She could have gone on a longer ride but that would have required her to get up a couple of hours before sunrise - an impossible task for most 22 year olds. I'd have gone with her, but there was the matter of a weight limitation.

Speaking of camels, Kadagar, you shouldn't feel intimidated by the mods. I don't know them all, but they are pretty reasonable people, which is why they were asked to be moderators in the first place. However if you don't feel comfortable contacting the mod you have issue with, contacting Tosa is always an option. State your case with reason and logic rather than flaming (let the forum rules be your guide) and your issue will be considered. If not Tosa, approach another moderator with whom you do have a comfort level and seek guidance that way. Those who have had major fall outs with the Org over the years are those who have let an incident consume them emotionally to the point they usually end up burning bridges, so you shouldn't fear repercusion for voicing any reasonable objections.
And as to this particular incident, I apologize for contributing to the derailing of this thread and the original thread in question. I'll be a little more sensitive to this in the future.

Make that two...right Kadagar? Kadagar? Rats, he's probably left this thread in sheer frustration. Regardless. He voiced a concern which was important to him and we all made light of it. He obviously felt differently about it hence this thread. Whether we perceive it as a non-issue or not, it is an issue with him and we should respect that, especially here in this forum created for just such things. Thus I get off the pile and stand by him.
Now backoff everyone. I know Pun Fu.:chucks:

Isn't this in the wrong forum... shouldn't it take a tour to the BackroomWT.
Ok, ok, in case you interpreted my post in this thread as having fun at your expense, I apologise, Kadagar_AV
As an explanation (not an excuse): Mith's post seemed so obviously a joke to me and the fact that, apparently, you misunderstood and seemed to have missed the joke and took it all so serious, made it even more funny, which resulted in my "snaps photo" post.
Please, don't take it too personal, I would have done exactly the same if this thread had been created by any other member.
Again: my sincere apologies if you felt offended by my post (but I suspect that "the tourists" will remain a running gag on the Org for quite a while, just like "the camels"...).
I feel a bit uneasy about everybody ganging up against one...
That's the first time I'm part of a sect and now you want to ruin it... :inquisitive:
I simply think he is overreacting, I found the thread he complains about quite humorous and entertaining, yes, he made a serious post and it was largely ignored but that happens to my own posts on a regular basis, even the serious ones. If it doesn't kill me, it only makes me more of a laughing stock.
Oh and the mods are the last ones I'd say have malign intent here, there are way more offensive members. That his first post basically sounds like the mods aren't allowed to have fun is just rubbish in my opinion.
There, now you have my serious opinion. :balloon2:

Andres,
Beskar wrote
A huge hit for the tourism industry.
Evil Maniac From Mars wrote,
What about tourists? Slovaks communicating with tourists? Am I missing something, or did they really not think this through?
Tratorix <- Then followed up by agreeing with above posters...
Husar <- Joined the bandwagon...
THEN I posted, actually quoting the article, not the OP. Trying to explain the reasoning behind.
Papewaio then went on about tourism, again, not as a joke (as i understood it), but as a serios question.
Evil Maniac From Mars, then responds to my post, excusing himself, explaining how he had only answered to the OP without reading the article.
Furunculus <- then comes in, still on the tourist track... Obviosly a little late.
and on and on and on...
Now, tourism jokes WOULD indeed have been funny if it was a joke in the first place. Problem is that the first X posts actually seriosly did see it as a problem.
It is hard for me to grasp when stupidity ends and humour begins... Given it all look the same.
I dont mind mods fooling around, just, in this case the joke died before it was made as some people took the joke seriosly, or were serious about the joke...
Hence my frustration.
I thought it was a very viable topic, one worth discussing. Instead it turned into a spam-fest, and yes, mods were the ones starting it and rolling the bandwagon further.
So, sorry for being a party pooper, but how are ordinary members supposed to understand the line between stupidity and sarcasm, when it all look exactly the same?
Take page 1, what is the difference between EMFMs first post and Mithrandirs first post? One is serious, the other one is, supposedly, humour...
Don't get me wrong, the humour of some posters is the reason why I still log on... I wont mention any names, but veteran backroomers should know what people I am talking about. However, in MY humble oppinion, that thread, and the "jokes" made there had nothing to do with humour..
Just like I do not like the "humour" in this thread. I see it more like spam, in some cases with bad intentions.
And yes, in a optimal world mods should be held at the same standard as the rest... But let's face it, we expect just a little bit more mature behavior from mods. Some totally live up to it, too.
To be honest, the average quality of mods here is the best I have seen on any internet forum I have been to. It does not, however, mean that they can never be wrong, or immature.
And sometimes "ordinary", or maybe "extraordinary"-members shows what moderating should be all about. Thanks Gregoshi and Louis VI the Fat :balloon2:

Theres no doubt IMO that it started off as a legitimate concern. As I read through it, I agreed and was just dumbstruck by how they could do that etc. But then as the thread went on, I found it quite easy to see that it turned into a joke as it went along. Quite often not everyone follows it, especially over a text only medium, in a situation where body language and tone has a lot to do with it.
eg: A serious discussion about politics can degenerate into a friendly insult contest and comparing each other to horrible things, which makes for a great laugh when you take into account the tone and body language, but take those away and it turns into a flame war.

The Backroom Watchtower was created to hide Backroom topics and their associated mod issues from an unsuspecting populace. Since the topics (political/religious) usually cannot be separated from the administrative discussion, the Backroom WT requires group membership, just like the Backroom.
