And I realize she's mostly joking, but it's still funny.

a small price to pay for have a true representative democracy at last, rather than an effective one-party state.

I'm going to hope the PM was just humouring her.

Is she related to Palin by any chance?
Meh, George Bush Sr. said God talked to him. Still funny though.

Junior too. Guess it runs in the family....
On an unrelated note, inbreeding is hereditary.
I love the deliciously twisted, and make no mistake they are among us.

I don't think it changes it from being a one-party state if the kids of the previous one-party state are the ones in the second party.
Its like the young tories winning an election off the tories. Not really changing of the guard but handing down the baton from one generation to the next. All with the tick box of approval from the bureaucrats of the civil service.

its a process, it will take time. the end result will be good for japan, being able to appreciate that not voting in the incumbent every time won't bring the sky falling in, as a political culture will emerge that does not sideline the voter in favour of the METI.
Didn't Nancy Reagan have an astrologist?
Who cares? The PM is not the head of state, and all that symbolism regarding having an adequate spouse is irrelevant. The Japanese Empress is the country's first lady, and if the PM has married some crazycakes, it's no big deal.
