View Full Version : returning to the fold
To all Shogun experts
I started playing Shogun Total War a couple years ago and was absolutely enthralled by its setting, colour and rich vibrancy. A completely unique wargaming experience far surpassing most other games in the genre...
It was with glee that i loaded up MTW when it came out and immersed myself it to its immense size and depth. Now playing it solidly most weekends and some weekdays i feel i understand the ins and outs of it well enough.
Now, i'm not a modder or a programmer, i'm a gamer who loves to play good games. I'm also relatively new to the whole internet gaming thing and updates/mods/patches. I've recently downloaded the MTW mod and found the game more balanced.... however the more i play the more i want to return to my roots in the shogun era. i play MTW and wonder how my warrior monks and no-dachi swordsmen would fare against the rabble of western europe....
.. so i have reinstalled Shogun WE and want to make sure i am playing the most up-to-date version possible with the most playable uploads and patches, and this is where i become unstuck. I've been to the download page for Shogun and am pretty amazed by the number of posible mods/amends/edits on there (well done to those dedicated contributors). unfortunately i only have access to a stable internet connection at work- and am only able to download at certain times in the day. i was hoping that some of the experts in this area might be able to let me know which were the most important ones to download or at least let me know where i can see what they do (without having to download each one and open up the readme)...
..thank you for any help or advice...

Hello Dr No,
Firstly, glad to here you are returning to your roots, experienced players are always more than welcome.
As for the patches, initially, you will need to install V1.02 Beta MI/WE, this is the patch the majority play with and is availble here under downloads. However, as of late, V1.03 is getting a fair crack of the whip, so I suggest you downlaod and install this also, along with the stats swapper. This is available in this Forum, in the the thread started by Tosa.
Look forward to seeing you on-line.
Bows.

Strength and honour comes with 1.03. Vote 1.03.
Thank you Kensuke for your quick response.
Have now downloaded patch 1.02 and the statswapper, but cannot seem to locate version 1.03 anywhere?
I shall be sharpening my Katana over the next few days and shall hopefully see you and others on-line in the near future

Hi,
Here is the shortcut to the 103 patch, a little confusing the statSwapper is the 103 I think, maybe Tosa can confirm this:
http://www.totalwar.org/tosa/StatSwapper2.0Z.exe
and if you are a Windows XP user you will also need this:

Hi Dr_No
With the 103 installed you can alt/tab out of the foyer change stat from 102 to 103 or the other way around and be back in the foyer in about 7 secs. Not bad eh http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
I've got to spend more time on Shogun. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif

"WarPriest? TenkiWarpriest?"
Nah, different guy... Funny thing, I forgot all about TenkiWarpriest when I took that new title a while ago. Strange no one ever mentioned it before + TenkiWarpriest is a great guy and very well known.
Konnichiwa Kurando san,
Will we meet in the STW MI foyer? Samurai Sundays are a good time to play.

Not sure where tenkiwarpriest is at the moment he doesnt appear on messanger and i havnt spoken to him for months. He was bitten by a posinous spider a few weeks back, but he recovered hmmm i think he will return in the summer. (northern Hemisphere).
Not sure what he'll think of that name kurando.
"Not sure what he'll think of that name kurando"
Hehe, we've been friends/comrades for years, he'll understand + if he harps I'll just send my ninjas after him again. They've been known to use poison darts that can simulate a spider/insect bite... wait... I've said too much.

Um what version of windows do you have?
Have you put the stat swapper in side the MOngol invasion directory directly? If you have windows XP, have you put the choice file (to get that command prompt working) inside the windows - system 32 folder. If you have done all that then its all set to go.
Now all you need to do is go to the MI directory default C:(that if use a C partition for games)/program files/totalwar/shogun totalwar then you should see something called 10xswap double click that and a black box should appear. Now look for 1.03 and it should be the letter C. Press C then press any key to continue when it tells you to then press x to exit and start MI up. You can switch back and forth from 1.02 to 1.03 anytime you like even when the game is running; just press alt tab or the windows key and change it then.
You probably new all that but it should definately work if you do the above.
Of course i ve only just realised that if you bring pumped muskies then you can still win easily if someone you play thinks that muskies dont matter anymore and bring 4 with h0 upgrade, so 1.03 dont work much better than 1.02 for me anymore.
