For all you guys who debate about unit types and how they fight historically - if you want concrete combat exapmles buy a book called The Art of War, not to be confused with Sun Tzu's Art of War. This Art of War deals with the Medieval time period and seems to be the definitive book on Medieval troop types from all sorts of nations. I havnt bought it yet but it certainly seems like the source book if you guys are looking for oodles of information about Medieval troop types.

I have found the exact title of the book, it is: A History of the Art of War in the Middle Ages.

This is a computer game.

uh-no your dead wrong on that one. If you actually read or have heard of a library or bookstore (as opposed to a video game store) you'll actually find a book with this title. If you dont believe me go to amazon.com and click on books, and enter in the keyword the title name I have provided. BTW theres more to life than computer games

he didnt mean the book was a computer game Richard the Village-Idiot.. he meant MTW is a computer game and the book your speaking of may have medieval war stuff.. but nothing really to pertain to MTW " The computer Game", thats gonna affect gameplay.

BTW shudnt you be off posting " The patch is out " on some other Total War forum boards? :/

If havnt been banned yet, I can post anything I want, so get a sense of humor for gods sake. Also, this may be a computer game but some people who play MTW are interested in how MTW matches up with historical reality. MTW was designed with some historical accuracy in mind. I'm a little suprised most people here are not both interested in MTW and its realtion to history, otherwise, if this information is not relevant to you kardinalsyn I suggest you not respond to my post or go off and put in a post at the Half-Life forums or Doom forums, games you may be quite familiar with that require less todo with historical interest.

heeheehe me get a sense of humor?

Quote by Richard : If you actually read or have heard of a library or bookstore (as opposed to a video game store)

seems to me you jumped all over this guy!
You flame others yet can't take any flaming towards you?... boo hoo

I never said the information wasnt relevant to me, I was merely stating that you misread his post and intention, and replied to his post ridiculing him for some reason ( which seems to be you think you are better than some of us here )I'm sure alot of us here who play MTW and STW are interested in historical accuracy, afterall Im posting and reading on MTW boards, not Heroes of might and Magic........ and as far as the sense of humor.. having seen your " The patch is here" post, your humor is very childish and immature.

and btw for your relevant information, I strictly play strategy and rpg games, not half life or doom

Hey I am rally drunk but I have a good question ....

back on teh apple IIc there was an old game called Anceint art of war at sea ... anyone familiar with it? Any chance there is a version I can play this day? Graphics were horrible as u might imagine but the game itself was amazing ...

Anyway ... I am too drunk to think.

Boondock is it me or are you always posting drunk? Kardinal humor is the only way to deal with waiting for the patch in a buggy game, if you dont have any humor then it certainaly makes it tough to wait and wait anxiously. And yes I did misunderstand the guy talking about Art of War, but a few extra typed words would have made me understand clearly what he was saying. Am I better than anyone else here? No probably not, unless what you post has nothing to do with the subject matter and makes no logical sense. As far as boondocks post, hes completely drunk, so its forgivable. I only get upset with people who ignorantly argue irrelevent points.

Richard ... I am sorrrrry I looked up and saw this was a post about a book! I have read books before but not any books on actual arts of war .... unless someone would include the Iliad and Oddessy both great books but not what I think we are talking about.

Anyway .. arent u the same guy who said the patch was out not long ago?

If u are ASS! is all I have to say. Either way, I think I will have another beer/.

Oh and yes and no I am .. never mind.

moved to History where our local drunks (drunk on info, not drunk on power like yours truly) tend to congregate and can perhaps clear up the whole cloudy game/book/frame of mind matter

Oman's work "The art of Warfare in the Middle Ages" is over a century old now - apparently a great read, and I suspect that the facts are mostly correct, but I've seen enough reviews to think that his analysis of many events is not generally accepted any more.

It's definitely worthwhile getting if you ca do so cheaply, but I'm not going to spend US$50 or so getting it from Amazon.

i read the simplfy comic strip version of it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif its good when you transfer it to comic course when i read the original text i fall at sleep. Well the book did got 1 thing right, The worst ever thing to do with yo army is to assualt a castle( in the book it says town) and also in da book they say defend when you are not sure of victory and attack when your sure(err..something like that) but at war when i am on da offensive i just mindlessly rush my army to the enemy.
